“Good effort at upscale cuisine, but the devil is in the details”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013 via mobile

A very nice restaurant on a 2nd floor patio. The menu aspires to separate from the standard fare in the area.
We began with empanadas, which were excellent. Then a Caesar (Cesar) salad that was the best we had here; bright clean leaves of romaine and not overdressed. An excellent start.
We shared the Tres Deseos, which had chicken, pork and filet with 3 different finishes. Steak was raw in center, perhaps frozen when fired. We gave up after 2 returns from kitchen. They adjusted the bill and apologized, so they did their best.
For dessert, we ordered the cheese pie which was overbaked and dry with burnt bottom.
Again, all dishes were noble efforts at higher cuisine, and we'd try it again, but attention seems to have slipped.

“Slow cooking done very well!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013 via mobile

We have visited La Gula twice on this trip and both visits were great. It is located on the second floor of the building so you can take the whole " real Zihua" cityscape in. La Gula is romantic and casually elegant. The food quality would rival many white tablecloth bistros in the states. Great service and flavorful food. A must see in Zihua !

“Another excellent dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

The best last year. Tied with Chez Leo this year. Both chefs are sophisticated. In Vancouver's very competitive restaurant market, both could compete. Looking forward to our return in November and many other excellent meals.
