Description: From steak to seafood, vegetables to burgers, anything that Rufo can throw on his grill he does -- and to much success, too. The outdoor restaurant fits perfectly with the charcoal grill flavors, fresh corn tortillas and hearty homestyle portions that makes Rufo's so popular. There's often a crowd during high season but it's worth coming early or staying late to get a taste. Rufo is a personable host and takes extra effort to make each customer's experience unique and fully satisfying. He has even been known to bring out a large platter of grilled steak, ribs, fish and shrimp for a group to sample when they can't make up their mind. There isn't a huge bar selection but the margaritas are strong and the beer is cold. On a hot Zihuatanejo night, what more could you ask for?

Nice surprise for not alot of Pesos. Restraunt at the bottom of the hill; serving catch of the day to fantastic ribs; prompt service and comfortable open air dining experience

“We eat here everytime and sometimes twice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We have been eating at Rufo's for years now. It is close to where we stay, Rufo always remembers us and greets us when we walk by, the food is consistently delicious and the service friendly. My husband doesn't even look at the menu and orders the ribs or 'costillas'. They are little pork ribs with a very delicious sauce. I have been all over the board with the ribs also, pork chops, grilled fish, grilled vegetables and camerones. I love the fresh salsas and pickled vegis that are brought to your table with chips. The roasted tomato salsa rocks. Rufo himself, mans the grill and usually takes your order and serves your food although he does have some additional help. I love the personal attention he gives and he is always grateful for you business. You really feel that he is happy to have you there!

This years, we went down one evening early, around 6pm. There were quite a few tables full for that time of night, maybe 10-12 people. We ordered cocktails and our dinner. We are use to Mexico and slow time so it didn't bother us that we had not been served after about 20 minutes. Rufo came over and apologized for the delay and said it would be coming soon and he would give us another round of drinks. I told him we were fine and that wasn't necessary. However, another round did show up. Our dinner arrived, both ribs and it was delicious as usual. Rufo then approached our table and offered us more ribs that he had on a plate. We declined as we were both full but thanked him. After our plates had been cleared, two bowls of ice cream showed up for us! It was so sweet of him! I really didn't feel we had waited extra long for our dinner. Rufo stopped by our table again and once more apologized for the delay. It seems he had a run on ribs and had to send someone out to buy some more! Lol! This was the first time EVER in Mexico, an owner or manager has apologized for a delay in service and tried to make it right. It was very sweet and very much appreciated!

If you are going to Zihuatanejo, don't miss this little gem of restaurant!

“Fresh and good; great atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Rufo's on his first night open for the season (Sept. 15). Everything we tasted was freshly prepared and delicious, from the salsas to the ribs to the camarones. And you can't beat the casual, relaxed atmosphere.

“Ribs, good job, Rufo”

We had his ribs and they were just great. Several people were eating there and everyone was smiling and talking about how good the food was. We will go again.

“Grilled meats”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

If you get tired of seafod, Rufos has many other kinds of grilled foods and is a fun outdoorsy place. However, when we visited most recently it seemed closed. Can't tell if it was closed for low season or permanently closed due to the decline of tourism to Mexico.
