“Worth the effort to find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

Friends had raved about Red Cabbage. So we hopped in the car and despite some horrible traffic we found the food to be worth making the trip. The artwork is as unique as the food. We've been in Mexico for several months and are starting to tire of Mexican food - but the Red Cabbage renewed our interest with a number of dishes we've not encountered before. The spinach salad and peanut soup were amazing.

“Always our first and last dinners when visiting PV”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

My wife and I have bee dining at "The Cabbage" for more than 15 years. Since discovering this gem it's always our first dinner as well as our last dinner when visiting PV. You won't find tacos or burritos as main courses on the menu here, but what you will find is a treasure chest of wonderful meals always freshly prepared and wonderfully served. This is not traditional Mexican food, but "The Cabbage" is not a traditional Mexican restaurant; the decor is very thought-provoking.

The staff and the owner are very welcoming and anxious to see that you enjoy your meal--and drinks--at "The Cabbage."

Our favorite dishes? Chiles de Picadillo, Mole Poblano, the spinach salad, the tortilla soup, and any fish they happen to be serving that day. Truly, we've had everything on the menu over the years, and have enjoyed every dish as they are all unique and delicious. (They even have a wonderful chocolate cake for dessert!)

“Fabulous and memorable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Down a back road by the river, the Red Cabbage is truly unique - and well worth the trip. Whimsical decorations set the stage for a memorable dining experience, and the food does not disappoint. Where else in the world can you order the food served at the wedding of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera?

I had the pollo pipian, which on the surface looks like chicken in a simple white sauce. But what a sauce! Flavored with sesame and almonds, accented with capers and green olives, I understood "depth of flavor" as I tasted it. My friends had the mole poblano and the pork shank - each delicious and unique. We all raved about the sauces.

The owner Lola Bravo stopped by our table, and she couldn't have been nicer. She even gave my friend a free flan for her birthday. Other reviews may say this place is pricey, but it was about the same as what we paid for a much poorer dinner at our hotel's restaurant. We all felt the prices here were quite low for the quality of food delivered.

There's a reason this restaurant is listed in a guidebook as a favorite place for visiting chefs to eat - the only restaurant in Puerto Vallarta so listed.

“truly authentic, wonderful mexican fare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

On our most recent trips to PV (12/16-23) we ate here twice. It is that good! We actually have been here 3x over the last year. It is off the beaten path but well worth it. They have the best margaritas in PV. They actually know how to make a drink here! The mole poblano is the best we have had anywhere. You must get this dish when you go. Had it both times this visit. Also it is a very good value. Cant believe other reviews that says it isnt. So if you want fantastic real mexican cuisine this is the place. We hope to see you very soon.

“ok food & atmosphere, overpriced for what it is”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

I ordered chile en nogada to try but couldn't eat it as it was so sweet, bordering on a dessert, but may be that's just how it's supposed to be. I traded it with others' food from my party and food was ok but nothing spectacular. It was definitely 30 to 50% overpriced for what it is.
