When we first walked in the door, I was a little skeptical as we were the only ones there (I know, we eat too early), boy was I wrong. We started out with a couple martinis to celebrate my wife's birthday, chilled to perfection and delicious. Our waiter Alejandro offered stellar service the entire dinner. A piece of advice, don't go early as we did, wait till the sun cools down a bit and sit in the beautiful grotto. We had several apps including tuna, beef carpaccio and a shooter of Clamato and Vodka with clams and oysters. All three were wonderful, the tuna was a portion that would easily serve as an entree and was served with a carrot purée and a very interesting and fun calamari painted Black Sea salt. For entrees my wife had a local fish, Cordova?? That was tender, flaky and was complimented perfectly with the accompanying sauce. I had a Brazilian cut of beef with mashed potatoes and au jus. Easily the best cut of meat I ever had in Mexico. When I made the reservation several months ago through open table, I mentioned it was my wife's birthday, and never mentioned it again. When it was time for dessert, out came a mirror, with a few pastries, happy birthday written in chocolate, a birthday candle that looked more like a Roman candle and a cake sculpture crafted out of blue sugar, as well as a heartfelt happy birthday song from the staff. I can't wait to visit Cafe des Artistes on our next trip to PV!
