“don't miss these if you like flora/fauna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Beautiful gardens, trails to hike from the easy to the harsh "Jaguar" Trail! A nice suprise there- The best food we had on our 2 week stay was at the gardens. Great fish tacos, and coffee. Don't miss the sweet pet cemetary up on the hill. Very touching.

“A little bit of Heaven on earth.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This is a must see if you are visiting Puerto Vallarta. Just a 30 minute bus ride south just past Las Juntas. A few dollars to get in gives you breath taking vistas, an opportunity to have a 5 star lunch and peace and tranquility in a jungle paradise.

“Nice, but needs improvement here and there...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Oh yes, it is a VERY pot-holed road to get to this location -- we were hoping that our rented car would not have any "scars" after the journey that would be pointed out when we returned the car!
Perhaps there is just generally less to see in the month of November; I found myself somewhat disappointed in the overall experience due to some confusion with the trails (we found orange warning cones on one end of a trail, but not on the other), a lack of signage and a true overabundance of "no see 'ums" that managed to get in quite a few bites despite me being drenched in insect repellent. Had the bugs not been so bad, I probably would have been more interested in wandering around to discover more of the bird life; as it was, I enjoyed seeing a few from the relative safety of the restaurant, but then headed fairly directly back to the safety of the car. Yes, please do be sure you are wearing long sleeves, long pants and still make sure there's lots of insect repellent on all the exposed bits!! It looks as if there are still all sorts of additions and improvements being made, so I most probably would be up for a return visit in another season of the year..

Thank you for visiting the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Sorry to hear about the conditions of the road to the gardens. The rainy season in Puerto Vallarta, unfortunately makes holes in the road that are constantly being filled in until the rain is done and a more permanent solution can be made. We are happy to hear that you explored the grounds. When you return, please join us for a 1pm guided tour of the gardens and learn more about the plants and birds. We have also posted a sign encouraging visitors to wear bug repellant. Please return to the gardens to see our updates and your entrance is covered by us. Thank you again.

Very beautiful and tranquil gardens. Self guided tour with map. We liked being able to wonder on our own and enjoy the beauty. A must see..

The Gardens are spectacular and that taxi ride is a hoot but we were not warned to wear long pants and the bugs devoured my legs. They sell bug goop at the enterance and it worked for my 2 friends as they maybe had only one or two bites but I was ravaged. I ask the guy at the enterance if he was wearing the bug repellent and he said he did not need to because he was wearing long pants. I realize most of us don't pack long pants to go to Vallarta but If I ever expect to return to the gardens I will deffinately pack a pair.

Now for the good stuff. The birds and butterflies were abundant and the colors radiant. I had never seen so many plants flowering that I had never seen before. The orchid house was beautiful and in full bloom. We saw the vanilla bean plant and that was amazing. There is a nice restaurant that has panoramic views from the second story so it is definately worth the trip.
