“Dreams go above and beyond”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

This was our second time to visit a Dreams property, but the first time to Dreams in Puerto Vallarta. All employees go above and beyond to make sure your vacation is great. We stayed in the old tower first and our room was fine, just no balcony. What's nice is that all rooms have an ocean view so that is very nice. We did upgrade after 2 nights to the premium tower and the room was beautiful and had a large balcony. We used the coupons they give you at check-in and then only had to pay an additional $50 dollars per night. This way we had internet, a beautiful room and access to the premium lounge. We felt it was well worth the upgrade. Maid service for both rooms was excellent. For breakfast we always ate at the World Café and had wonderful omelets each morning, the omelet lady was great! Most lunches we ate at the Seaside Grill which had great seafood, salads, tacos, chips and salsa. We had several dinners at Oceana which had great seafood. Our favorite place for dinner was at El Patio, which unfortunately was only open one night while we were there. The food there was excellent and the best margaritas! The one restaurant we did not like at all was Portofino. We regretted even going there. The food was not good, atmosphere very tacky, and terrible wines. We learned that you don't order Italian food in Mexico! The pools were great and the beach area clean, but the waves on most days were pretty rough while we were there. Not good for relaxing in the ocean. All bars were good, but the drinks are weak, you can ask for an additional shot if needed. Entertainment staff works hard and there are lots of things to choose from. The evening shows were well done. The Mexican Show with Live Mariachis was great, not what we expected at all. We did a salsa dance lesson which was fun. We also did the jungle hike which was fun too, just make sure you have good shoes and are in decent physical shape! The outdoor movies were a nice option as well. We did not use the spa area at all. We will definitely will be returning to a Dreams property.

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean view, premium tower is nice but not a must.

We have stayed at many resorts in PV and Mayan over last 8 years and a result, think we have a decent understanding of not only what's out there, but also what we like and what we don't.
Here are a few quick points, but at the very least please read closing comments.

CHECK-IN
Champagne and cold towel to check is always a nice touch and very appreciated with sweltering heat and humidity. We were booked into original tower room with a French balcony but decided we wanted full balcony. By the time was all said and done, it cost an additional 70 dollars and was well worth it.

ROOM
Room was very clean, cozy and up to date with all amenities including well stocked mini-bar. Only 2 things worth noting - the fan in the bathroom did not work and dim lighting in bathroom made it difficult for wife to put on make--up. No big deal and to us, not worth switching. Stayed on 4th floor which was decent view but if you can go higher - do it. Once you clear palm tree tops, view is even more amazing. Nice touch with note, fruit plate and bottle of champagne whenever you want it sent up.
Note - We did take a tour of a room in the preferred tower and it is beautiful and worth the money. If you don't have the money for the upgrade though don't worry, the original tower is more than fine.

POOLS / BEACH
The Las Palmas Pool in front of original tower is small, covered by trees and does not permit much sun or view of the ocean. It is also used for weddings which means you might get kicked out for private function during the day.
The Main Pool is used by families and is, as expected, loud and busy all the time. You also sit with your back to the ocean. For Albertans, this is missing the whole point of going to an ocean destination.
The Relaxing Pool is the best, but tiniest. You look out over an infinity pool onto the ocean just in front which is absolutely beautiful, however - the pool is no bigger than a backyard in-ground pool and all the reviews are accurate - there are only about a dozen chaise lounges which are gone as soon as the sun is up.
The beach and water is fantastic. Warm and clear (for PV) with nice gradual walk-out.

SERVICE / FOOD
(We apologize in advance for any misspelled names.)
Service is truly where this resort does shine. As this is an all-inclusive, the two were intertwined in so many ways.

Right after a pleasant check-in with Clara, Hector was waiting to spend a few moments with us. Hector provided coupons to use for the spa, special wines etc., and invited us to a quick presentation (not a time share). the next day. He was very smart and quickly determined we were tired, hot and weary travellers that we just wanted to get changed, swim and relax. With a great smile and laugh he wished us an enjoyable stay and said he'd catch up with us another time. We ran into Hector several times each day and he was always warm, friendly and ready to assist in any way.

Breakfasts
The buffet was excellent. The food was fresh, there was more than enough selection to keep anyone happy and it was all presented very nicely. Food items were always well stocked with dishes being refilled before empty, and all station personnel were smiling and attentive. The egg station lady - Lenora, was a doll. Sweltering heat over a grill could not erase a fabulous smile and friendly greeting everyday.

Lunch
This buffet was also excellent with the same high standards from the morning remaining in tact.

The wait staff were also fantastic at this area for both meals. Quick to greet, quick to assist and quick to clean any empty plates or glasses.

Dinners
As incredible as it may seem to some, we ate the Seaside Grill every night of week for our stay. We heard from other guests that the other restaurants were also great, but for us, the food, the view and most of all - the service of the Seaside Grill, was amazing and made us want to spend each evening there.

Samuel the manager of the venue was professional, caring, and attentive to a fault without being snooty or too formal. He welcomed us as if we were family each visit. Asked how things were, during the meal. A terrific man for the position.

Jose served us most nights we were there and clearly loved making people happy. He was unfailingly polite, always smiling and served as anyone would want to be served while in paradise.

We were also lucky enough to have met and been spoiled by Fausto, the Chef of this restaurant. A quiet man who obviously enjoyed going the extra mile, Fausto and his staff made each dish we tried a truly spectacular experience. We were lucky enough to have had a couple of items that were not on the menu and they will always be things we talk about for years to come as amazing.

Around the Relaxing Pool we were lucky enough to have met Filipe (bartender), Andres and xxxxxxxxx (servers). These guys were friendly, warm and charming and could not have made our days by the water any more perfect.

After dinner, drinks in the lobby bar were usually served by Vanessa who was quick to smile and ensure that our days end would be concluded as fantastically as the rest of it.

Finally, A couple of requests...

Be polite.
The person serving your drink or food in Mexico is just as deserving of respect and politeness as your next door neighbour.

TIP!!
While we were around the pool and beach, the bartenders and servers worked their butts off in the blazing sun, stifling humidity and even slight rain and 95% of the people there never tipped them - not even once. It was shameful. Usually the cheapest people were the ones who were in large groups, would order tray after tray of drinks and never slip the server a bill of any size or denomination.

People if you can afford to go to an all-inclusive resort, you can certainly afford to tip these amazing people.

We hope that the Food & Beverage Manager and General Manager of this property (Mr. Noe Munoz Garcia & Mr. Yann L.Guillou) respectively, read our review and pass on these comments to their wonderful staff.

Room Tip: get room above tree tops for best views.

This was my second time at Dreams. Stayed in 8/31/2011 with girlfriends and had a wonderful time. Returned 6/21/2013 to celebrate my husbands birthday. I must say, this stay was better than the first. My husband had a wonderful time. Everything was great. It's rainy season, so it rained everyday at about 5pm... We even enjoyed the rain. We stayed in the Preferred Tower and there was as much premium liquor as you wanted. The $200.00 coupons are assigned, so you don't get to use them as you choose at the resort. We used the spa, which was very nice, so we were able to use $40 in coupons per treatment. A treatment for 140.00 will cost $100. You are not able to apply all your coupons to one treatment which I didn't like.... I got over it and ended up getting 3 treatments. The other coupons assigned to wine and a romantic dinner went to waste.... The coupons are a scam, so don't get excited about it..... If you decide to do a Timeshare presentation don't do Vida.. Mayan Resort. It is pure Hell! They will pick you up and take you about 20 miles from Dreams and hold you hostage 4 to 5 hours... It could have ruined my trip! Avoid it!...
I will return to Dream because I have a Great experience!

We are huge Mexican travelers and love visiting all inclusive resorts across the Caribbean and Pacific. This resort was great through and through. I first recommend Orlando "Magic" Sanchez and Manuel for a fishing/snorkeling excursion. Sign up on the beach with them, not in the hotel. It's less expensive than the excursions, trust me. The restaurants were fantastic. For being all-inclusive, we thought this was one of the best food resorts we've been to. Seaside Grill was the best, they even made my wife's birthday super special by singing to her and customizing a dessert. The entertainment was pretty incredible. There was a magician that I was blown away by... I was even invited on stage and still couldn't figure it out. The fire show on the beach was spectacular. None of the entertainment was cheezy, it was all great. Overall, I'd visit another Dreams resort again and plan on doing so. Money well spent.

We stayed here 2 weeks last year. This year was our second trip there but things had changed. On at least two occasions there was no wine at the rendezvous bar.The toilet was not working when we arrived and it took two calls to get it fixed . The advertised "premium" liquors and beer were basically non-existent but some people were getting it by some special arrangement?? A woman's swimsuit went missing from our room as well as a gold ring that admittedly should have been in the safe. We wrote out complaints of the items that went missing but did not get a copy for insurance. When asked for it later they dragged their feet until it was too late to claim. All in all it is not worth the extra money and they are not providing what they advertise. Even the staff expressed frustration to us as they could not give customers what they asked for.

Family vacation from June 15-22 with my family of three and three other families. The resort is beatiful with just about the best beach I have ever stayed on. The cliffs on either end of the beach make it truly private with only a few solicitors wandering the sand. All of them were very friendly and not pushy. Our room in the preferred tower was great with spectacular views of the beach and Banderas bay. Rooms was clean and comfortable, although the roll away bed delivered for my 10 year old son must have been delivered directly from some midevil torture chamber - he ended up sleeping on the couch and was fine with it. The minibar was restocked daily with beer, water and sodas. The food was really good. We ate breakfast mostly at the world cafe but also Oceana. Both were top notch. Lunch at seaside grill with the aquachiles ceviche and fish tacos was awesome. Also had burgers and chicken tacos from the beach grill. My favorite dinner spot was El Patio - authentic and delicious mexican food (melted cheese app and chicken mole are worth mentioning). The dinner at portofino was good, but the setting was lacking and who wants italian food while in Mexico.

My only complaints with this place were the rudeness and all around grumpiness of the pool bar staff. These guys seemed to take thier pissed off pills every morning and were experts at ignoring you as you stood their, sometimes for 20+ minutes to get a drink. Seems like it could be a fun job, but for the most part, these guys were jerks that preferred to busy themselves doing nonsensical [--] instead of pouring beers. Even saw the bartender yell at a guy for not finishing his drink. Bar staff everywhere else was great. Also took issue with the kayak rental guys. Seems there was a different excuse every time we wanted to go out (not enough paddles, not enough life jackets, too windy, too rough, too close to closing time). When we finally did go out I got a good dose of attitude from the guy running it and then he is waving us back into the beach after only about 15 minutes in the water. I never did see anyone doing the rock climbing/repelling.

If I were to return to Dreams PV I'd probably limit my stay to 4-5 days and then do an additional 3-4 days elsewhere. The all-inclusive approach is great, but after several days of it a change of pace would have been good. My 10 year old son had the time of his life, and my wife and I had a great time too.

Family vacation from June 15-22.
Did not pay too much since rainy season begins at the end of the month. Some gray skies, overcast once in a while, rained twice but still PLENTY OF SUNSHINE!
Breakfast at world cafe was always the best meal of the day! And you must make an effort to at least try all the ala carte restaurants.
Staff were very friendly and I cant say enough about the Entertainment team!
They go over and above to make your stay a pleasant one without ever leaving the resort! Freddy and The "rock climbing guy" were my favourite!

My only complaint is that the Pools could use some cleaning throughout the day! They aren't like the big ones I'm used to having been to resorts in the Mayan Riviera..they are smaller and I think would benefit from more frequent cleanings.

That main pool and Barracuda swim up bar itself got pretty dirty and my mom even got stung by a bee because of all syrup they were attracted to? ..She's terrified of them but good thing she wasnt allergic.. Lots of bees! Hopefully they can do something about that..
Anyways they weren't kidding about "every room is ocean view"! Stayed in the older tower but room was still decent and cleaned twice a day!(morning and turn down service)
The private beach front was perfect! Few solicitors who were friendly and never pushy.

If you are in Puerto Vallarta this Resort is the one to go to!
