“Great hotel and staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Just concluded my stay at the Hilton Puerto Vallarta and it was great!

My partner and I arrived on Thursday around 3 pm. (Taxi cost from airport was $13).At checkin, we were presented with our first drink, a vodka lemonade with some hibiscus tea.

As a Hilton Diamond member, we were upgraded to one of the swim out pool junior suites. Incredible room, incredible pool! About 10 minutes after we got to the room a plate of fresh fruit was delivered to our room with a card reading 'Welcome to Paradise'.

The grounds are great. The 2 pools are large, and include some clever little coves. The pool chairs/loungers were in good shape, and the umbrellas were not only everywhere, but very modern and cool. There were 3 or 4 bathrooms at the pool that were a very cool setup. They are enclosed but on the top have vines/open areas to them (they do need to be cleaned for spiderwebs and such). Made it very convenient and pool friendly.

I really enjoyed all of the subtle colors at the resort. From the green painted walls, to the bright green pool towels. The beach was great and there was lots of furniture on the beach.

The service at the restaurants and the pool were fantastic. Everyone is very accommodating and they even remembered my last name everywhere we went (I think it was because I have a Spanish last name and I dont speak Spanish). The reviews are right, if you tip the pool servers from the get go, they will remember you and your drink order, and will automatically bring you drinks when they see you.

The food at the hotel was just ok. Not spectacular and not horrible. We ate at the buffet everyday for breakfast and one night for dinner. We also ate at Fogo, which was very good, but not necessarily compared to a Brazilian steakhouse (though I must admit, the Chorizo was great!)

Minimal Complaints: Our toiletries were not refreshed once in our 3 night stay. No turn down service (which ordinarily is not that big of a deal, however, on vacation you shower at weird times and would have been nice to have refresher towels). Drink service at the pool did not start until 11 am (you could walk to the lobby bar to get drinks, but then you are walking wet into the lobby). The Adult Pool O'West coudlve been open at least 1 more hour (currently closes at 10). The food was just.... so so...

Overall, I liked the hotel and I will definitely return.

This was our first time at this hotel and our fourth time to Puerto Vallarta. We were planning to stay for 7 nights but checked out after two nights. It's a fun hotel to stay at if your are just planning to party for a couple of nights but not ideal for a relaxing beach vacation. The grounds were nice and the staff was friendly. However, there were many things that were missing. There was no Jacuzzi or pool bar. Pool side service was available but pretty slow since the staff was overworked. There weren't too many places to go off to and enjoy a little peace and quiet. The biggest offense was the food. It was awful. You do have to pay a fee to have room service even though it's an all inclusive hotel. The weekends are definitely more busy than the weekdays (locals usually stay for weekends only). The lounge chairs are not that comfortable. There is a loud humming noise outside of the rooms. There are some nice things about the hotel. The adult pool area on the higher floor had amazing views, however, it was not a "peaceful place". It's a great place to go and watch the sunset and enjoy a cocktail. The rooms were nice and big (we received the free upgrade to the deluxe Jacuzzi on the second level). Overall, you get what you pay for (we payed $200/night including the all inclusive part). I would stay here again only for a day or two (my stomach simply could not handle the abuse for much longer than that).

This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta, staying July 17 - 24. Being an experienced traveler (and avid trip advisor reader) I am going try and be as comprehensive as possible. Please note this is a RELAXATION hotel...the only thing you HAVE TO DO is reapply sunblock...other than that...RELAX!!!!!!!!!

Arrival at the airport:
The lines to get through customs was very short when we arrived so we were processed pretty quickly; and by the time we got to baggage our baggage was waiting for us. Time share people were all over airport but we went right through without stopping (we have learned from previous trips to Mexico). Don't bother getting transportation ahead of time...cabs are EVERYWHERE and cost around $20 USD. Cabs are always at hotel and easy to catch for return to airport.

Hotel:
Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by a concierge who “was expecting our family” and the bellman Carlo Rubio brought us the signature welcome cocktail. We had booked a partial ocean view room but after seeing the view asked to upgrade to full ocean view. Carlo took us to 5 different rooms so that we could pick our favorite and we ended up in room 846...corner room with perfect view of the ocean (and sunset). Our room was CLEAN, spacious, and very comfortable. Shower was a bit weak, and they had Peter Thomas Roth amenities...

Issue:
There is no Entertainment...none poolside (we only saw water aerobics)...not much to do at night...most people stayed in pool pretty late or went into town...we like night entertainment so we felt that was LACKING

Service:
Everyone we met was AMAZING and sooooo helpful. Carlo went over and above with us...every time he saw us he greeted us by name and made sure we were having a comfortable stay. The wait staff in the buffet after 1 breakfast knew what we needed. Suggestion…if you have a drink preference, put a note and a tip in the refrigerator…the refrigerator filler and the cleaning people are separate. We wrote a note asking for extra water and beer and it was FULL daily! The pool service was amazing...you never had to wait for a drink. If you go to the lobby bar the bartenders are always making up a new and unique cocktail:)

Food:
All the buffet meals were good...food was not overly salted (which for me was great). Breakfast was brunch style...omelet station...pancakes...CHILIQUILES...and then chicken/beef/fish...etc...Lunch was good whether we went to the grill...ordered poolside or went to the buffet. Pizza and hot dogs were not the greatest but I am not in Mexico for pizza and hot dogs! Dinner...if you want sit down restaurants (make reservations your first day for the stay to make sure you get reservations you want) we liked the Mexican (filet mignon wrapped in Cactus and Tortilla Soup...OMG) we never made it to the Brazilian but heard good things...definitely a fan of the buffet...most people stayed at pool till 9 or 10 then went to dinner at buffet straight from there...very relaxed atmosphere

Pool:
The best sun comes to the lounges on the right side close to the beach next to the pool. We are VERY specific about our sun so we got there early (sun rose around 7:30) to claim our lounge before breakfast. Bring a t-shirt for the lounge to claim it…it is a good marker since everyone uses the same towel. . Bring a float from home…you can easily buy one at the Christmas Tree Shop or Wal-mart type of stores. It is way cheaper at home then at the resort

MAJOR ISSUE:
Clean towels are only available until 2 pm...if you are looking for a dry towel its not going to happen...the laundry is off the resort premises and they do not bring any new ones until the next morning at 6. For a pool that is open from 9 - 10:45 that to us was UNACCEPTABLE.

Beach:
The beach was nice, you can walk in either direction and water is swimmable. Vendors are all over but so is hotel security...so there was never a real issue...a no thanks was all it took for them to move on. OR you could buy stuff from them…if you like to bargain…do it…We never paid more than $10 for each piece of jewelry. Henna guy was awesome!
SUNSETS WERE AMAZING...sun usually starts going down at 7:30...DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT MISS IT

Shopping:
Hotel shops were nice but not much souvenirs. I bought from vendors and duty free.

Excursions:
We LOVED Vallarta Adventures...I will be reviewing them as well...they had a buy 2 excursions get the 3 for free so we did the Off-Road Adventure...Rhythms of the Night and Las Caletas...totally recommend all 3!

A nice experience overall.

Room Tip: Ocean View and high floor were the best views!

Where to begin? My trip began visiting family in Mexico, but as the days went by we decided to take a trip to Puerto Vallarta. We went to a travel agency in Mexico, and the person that helped us recommended this resort. If you are looking to stay in the city then this is the place to stay at. I believe the hotel is a year old, so everything is still fairly new.The hotel is close to a mall, a supermarket, and downtown Puerto Vallarta and there's a lot of night clubs downtown and restaurants as well. The only downside to Puerto Vallarta is that the beach is not too nice, the water is cold, and rocky. There's a lot of vendors that will be bothering you if you're sunbathing, but there's security everywhere, so if you have a problem with the vendors you can let them know.

I went in May of 2013, so there wasn't a lot of people staying at the resort. The hotel has 2 bars, I liked the bar by the lobby area, but the rooftop bar has a better view and it also has a swimming pool. The swimming pools are very nice, the service is excellent, the restaurants are ok. But the gourmet restaurants are delicious here.

Lastly, keep in mind that there are hotels in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta (they are about 20 minutes away from each other). If you want to want a quiet relaxing trip choose the Hilton. The only downside is that Nuevo Vallarta has a nicer beach, and has more activities...

This started out as a vacation for myself and my family to relax away from home. We needed to go somewhere that was teen friendly, family oriented and easy to get around. We booked through cheapcarribean.com, which was nice because we got a package deal that was already great in price. Before we went there, we confirmed our reservation because we read in other reviews that that would be the best thing to do. As we got to the actual hotel, we were greeted by Demis, (whom I have to say is great and accomodating with everything we needed to do while we were there). He was able to upgrade our room to the pool/ocean view room, which was quite an exquisite view, looking at the sunset was the best part of each day while we were there. During the evening/night time, we stayed at the first floor bar located in the main hallway of the hotel. Patricio was there the whole time making us Miami Vices and giving us shots of tequila, we asked him to join us a few times, which was fun.

The food was good for an all-inclusive, the only advice I need to say when you order or go anywhere in the resort, you need to think outside the box, especially in the buffet area.

On the actual mornings you decide to go out and tan, try to get out early or else you'll miss the good places. We always got a lot of help from one of the gentlemen that was always out there, he was a security guard, but they were always helpful with making sure that all the umbrellas were always in place.

As far as sleep, there are some nights that they have the club on the first floor going on, which means that the sound gets all the way to the top of the building. We were on the 6th floor mind you.

I don't know what else I missed on this review but I hope it was helpful for anyone planning to go out there.

We stay in the Hilton hotel, for 5 nights, the first thing that i dont like was that from staff give the worst room they have, altought the hotel was probably only 1/3 of ocupancy, i think they usually do that even if the hotel is empty they try to fill out the worst rooms, and that is not fine when i book my vacations i reserved one deluxe ocean view, and they give me one but not balcony or terrace, and let' me tell that that room was 1 of the 4 they have like that, i was very upset and go back to the from desk, and ask why if the hotel has 562 rooms they give the worst? after the bad moment pass finaly they give another not so nice bet unless a few better,.. The second thing was the food they have not variety, all days was the same stuff, and very limited there are a lot of flies around, let'me say that the only the from staff was a litlle rude cause all waitres and bartenders was very nice with us but i think there was not his faults about the food... at the end i think for one 5 stars hotel the experiencie was bad i was hoping something better.

Room Tip: If you book a room with ocean view, when you arrive to check in ask for one room in the highter floo...
