After visiting PV many times, this was our first visit to the Hilton Puerto Vallarta. This new, and comparatively small, resort was beautiful and a perfect place for our 4-day get away.
Location was solid – 10 minutes from the airport and a 50 peso taxi ride to the Malecon.
We had an ocean-view suite (with Jacuzzi tub) in the main building. The view was spectacular and the room was very well appointed and comfortable.
The service at the hotel was great. I agree with others suggestions to get a stack of 50 peso bills to use to tip around the property.
Pools were beautiful. Get downstairs EARLY to reserve chairs/cabanas. There does not seem to be enough of them. The rooftop infiniti pool (adults only) in the main building is a beautiful view, especially at sunset. The serve free sushi (if you ask) but it was just average quality.
The fact that this property is all inclusive is very nice, but to a point. The food was good, but certainly not amazing. Room service and mini bar being included is very nice. Poolside drinks and snacks is a plus and our poolside wait staff was amazing. There are 3 restaurants that do require advance reservations – a Brazilian-style steakhouse (fogo), a French restaurant (delice) and a Mexican restaurant. For anyone that has tried an American Brazilian-style steakhouse, the one at the Hilton was a poor attempt. The service was bad and VERY slow. They should have the servers/gauchos was meat everywhere you turn. We had to beg for meat, and what we got was almost raw. The French restaurant was good, but the menu needs more explanation. We over heard one waiter tell a table that it was small portions, designed to have many courses. Our waiter told us nothing and simply asked for our order. The inconsistencies in service can be addressed with better training.
It would be nice if Hilton updated the website for the property. These days there is no excuse not to have a complete website before the property opens. There were a lot of questions that I had prior to arrival and I had to call the hotel (international call) and ask for a concierge that spoke good English. The website should have better pictures and explanations of the rooms, the restaurants, the spa, and everything that a guest needs to know before trying a new resort.
All in all it was a great experience, and I assume service will get better as it evolves. (Just opened in October 2012.) I would highly recommend this resort. It is smaller in size, but had everything that we needed. Actually I wouldn't recommend it to everyone – I don’t want too many people to know about this hidden gem.
