Just North of Marina Walmart is 600 acres (49 Ha) of primeval tidal mangrove forest. We walked on a boardwalk to a small pier and hopped on a very comfortable motor boat ( a panga) and putted down a stream cut into the solid mass of mangroves. This time of year there were few birds (maybe 5 kinds of heron, sanderlings and others) and the alligators were waiting for dark. Our bilingual guide was quite knowledgeable about the park and the work needed to save it for the depredations of those seeking the fish, crabs and wood of the forest. A 50 foot high viewing stand allows a panoramic view of the park and surrounds. I very pleasant couple of hours and the fee helps to pay staff and the constant cleanup fo garbage that drifts into the area. Once you have done all the shopping and bar hopping take a couple hours to chill in this amazing area. The fee 100 pesos.
