“It's not a grand turisimo hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2004

We stayed at the Premiere for six nights the first week in December and had mixed feelings about the overall hotel. The worst aspect was
housekeeping, no face towels, poor quality, and poor housekeeping service. Mattresses were very hard and pillows were cheap as were linens towels, etc. We waited three hours for wash cloths; they said they were "out." We were on the 7th floor in a premiere suite and the view was great. The highlight of this hotel was the food. We had only breakfast included, but chose to eat a few meals at th Muruales Restaurant--outstanding! The staff at the desk was good and the chief concierge was the best. What makes this hotel is the lack of
children and the quiet atmosphere. Location, location, location! It was
a 10 minute walk to the malecon. Although very good in areas, this
hotel is overrated; however, the price is reasonable for the Villa
Premiere Suite rooms. I wouldn't recommend any other type. These come with a huge jacuzzi or an outdoor dipping pool. We both had a premiere facial at the spa; we proclaimed it very good and we recommend it.

We just returned from our 6th trip to Puerto Vallarta. In the past we have stayed at the Krystal, La Jolla de Mismaloya, the Marriott Casa Magna, and once we rented a house. We liked the Premiere the least of all of these options. We experienced many of the negatives mentioned in these reviews. While we found the staff to be friendly and trying to provide good service, there just wasn't enough of them to take care of the hotel guests. Thus, at times the service was excellent, and at times it was dismal. We did the all-inclusive plan, and the same could be said for the food. At times it was very good, however, it would often arrive cold after a lengthy wait. At times we arrived back at room at 5:00 pm and it had not been cleaned yet. We started joking about the front desk. We called it the land of NO! Everything we would ask of them, the answer was NO! (Reminded us of the Capitol One commercial... No. Nyet. Nine. NO!) The pool area is small and crowded. The beach area is small and rocky. The noise from the Beunaventura next door is irritating. With so many other good choices in the Puerto Vallarta, why go back? Personally, next time, my money and my vacation will be spent at the Marriott Casa Magna. It's about the same price and is far superior.

Other than the staff being very nice there is not a nice thing I can think of to say. We were told this was a 4 star hotel and were charged as such. We got there and immediately got on the phone to arrange another hotel. We were told the minibar in our room would be an additional charge, opened it and it was empty other than the mold. The balcony was scary and felt unsafe. No clock, no remote for the tv... The pool was tiny with no where near enough room for all of their guests. Who does happen to get a chair at the pool is stuck practically on top of the person next to them. To sum it up, their brochure misrepresents their hotel. It is old and needs alot of work. The lesson learned was don't take the word of the hotel if you don't know of anyone that has visited.

Stayed At VP for a week in December 2004 & truly enjoyed every bit of it. We have stayed at all the "out of the way" resorts between Puerto Vallarta and Zihuatanejo & decided to try a more urban adventure this time. VP combined the easy access to a very cultural and sophisticated city while maintaining an intimacy and consistent quality (food, room, service, amenities, etc.) that is very difficult to find in Mexico. The all-adults, 83 room, beach-front orientation are Big Pluses. Not a high-volume mentality or pace... The rooms are very modern and nice. Ours was not musty at all, had a great patio with jacuzzi & $100 sunset view! The beach, pools, spa & simple lay out are both welcoming and subtle. The cuisine, especially Murales, was top-notch & was clearly better & more diverse than the food at better known, high-end resorts along the Coast Alegre. The menus provided lots of options, be it local, international or American. Staff was very friendly & courteous --- and will undoubtedly get better with more experience and as the clientele evolves.
There is a reasonably priced all-inclusive option, should you choose. And, although it is more than worth it, it is really more food & drink than most really need. In fact, the only real negative we experienced was from the small percentage of patrons whose behavior & decibel level were adversely influenced by the all-inclusive benefts --- sitting almost continuously at the pool bar and indoor bar from 10 am to 11pm.
But you find that at all AI hotels.
If you enjoy small, intimate hotels and the close-in charm of Puertro Vallarta, VP is really unbeatable.
A final tip...Go to Thierry Blouet restaurant in the central part of town... (he is also owner & chef of Cafe des Artistes, where it is co-located.) The best culinary experience we have ever had in Mexico!

I loved the location of the property, the pools, the closeness to the beach, no small children, the food, etc. I've been to PV several times and have never stayed so close to town. We walked to town most days.
A few times during the week a complimentary 5 minute foot massage was offered, poolside. It was great! We ate breakfast at the hotel most mornings, but ate lunch and dinner off-site.

I was not happy with the musty smell in the room that never went away, even after using air freshner and candles on a daily basis. The mattress was extremely hard and the pillows unbearable. I purchased my own pillows at the PV Walmart and slept much better. After staying at the Westin last year, I felt a huge let down with the mattress and pillow situation. Also, the TV cable options are very limited compared to other properties in PV.

All said, I'd stay there again because the beach was great and so was the view from the sleeping room. Being close to town was fun, too.

I'll list what I didn't like, since that list is 20x longer!

At various times during our two weeks there, there were no:
Soap (RADIO!)
Towels
Balcony Light
Bathroom light
Hot Water
Cable TV
in our room.

AC was either too cold or too hot.
It wouldn't adjust properly.

Not enough pool lounge chairs.
Always 'reserved", in spite of hotel's posted rules against it.

Only one tiny lamp in room.
I had to take off the shade to barely have enough light at night.

Was an insect in the room.

Not even free bottled water.

No checkout available on the TV.

Only sporadic "turn-down" service.

Walls, etc. were so thin that when I sneezed, the people two doors down said "bless you".

Some nights you could even hear the music from the Hotel next door.

Toilet flush was so loud it sounded like Niagara Falls. And you got to hear it from all the surrounding rooms as well.

My wife and I needed a getaway long weekend, and did we hit the jackpot here! Great food, friendly staff, swim up bar, and a fun group of people staying. Ask for a room with a whirlpool. Also have a nice day spa. Only a 10 minute walk to the Malecon. We will stay there again!
