“Liv'in Large in PV”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

We stayed one week, end of Nov and had a great time. Many reviewers get stuck on the little bumps in the road and never recover, whenever in Mexico there are at the very least always small bumps so we should keep our eye on the big picture. The big pic at this place is overall great in comparison to the six other Now/Dreams/Secrets that we have been to. Brand new, great food and decent liquor, including Don J. / Crown / ect. if you ask and tipp a normal buck a drink. The staff did there best to accommodate starting with a free upgr to 7th fl without us even asking. The ocean swimming sucked but it comes with that area. The staff were great whether at
the bars, restaurants or desk, We upgraded to a master suite for the last day in our Preferred Tower and felt like royalty knowing that you tyically get less from a hotel when it is located in a city. Regarging our many stays in PV, This place so far was best. We booked early and got an awesome deal to boot.

Room Tip: Get high as possible to avoid noise and have better views, Preferred tower is quieter, faster eleva...

I read the reviews of other travellers and I am disappointed that people feel that they should nitpick small issues. I just got back yesterday and I think that I may have been at a different resort from some of the other reviewers. I have stayed at many other resorts in both PV and Cancun and this place would have to be at the top of our list. We were met with fast service at the reception desk for both check in and check out. The rooms are beautiful with excellent views (we were on the 11th floor) and a soft bed. One of the best aspects of the room was the fact that the air conditioning is silent and this is the first resort where we could actually hear the waves crashing at night.
The restaurants are really good and the buffet offerred a good variety every day. We really enjoyed the buffet at the beach which happened twice during our vacation along with nightly entertainment.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would not hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Just be nice at the reception! We were originally on the 4th floor but I asked if we could have a h...

We really liked the Now Amber, the staff are friendly, you don't need any wristbands. You can order room service 24 hrs a day and there are 7 restuarants, 4 of which children are allowed in (3 are on the Secrets side) and if you're kids are little like ours the buffet is what they prefer anyway cuz you don't have to wait for your meal to be cooked. They offer babysitting though we didn't use it. They do try and sell you extras which are pretty pricey but those adventure tours are all over PV and they won't force it on you. They want a lot US for things like massage, 100 bucks or more! they offer you coupons but if you head out the front gates there's several places you can get a great massage for 250-300 pesos (like 20-25 US). There's vendors on the beach too but a simple non gracias and they leave you alone. Its true they also don't put as much liquor in your drinks down by the pool if you don't tip but that's kind of true everywhere. You can either complain or tip and its easy to figure out what works better. Overall its a nice place, maybe a little fancy for little kids but after 3 years old there is an explorers club the kids can join all day if you like and then mom and dad can have some time on their own. I read some real bad reviews from families before I left and have concluded the people who wrote them must be the b---iest people on earth. All the families we met were having a great time and sometimes a 2 year old kid will have a meltdown, like anywhere. Is there a little noise till midnight sometimes, well yeah but not that bad, besides the room stays cooler with the door shut. The air conditioners are loud but mostly on the higher floors of the main towers, we were on the 4th so no problem there. Would definitely try it again if we decide to go all-inclusive. Though a cab driver told me for $1000 US you could rent a two story furnished apartment right downtown for 1 month and most likely you would also have a cook and possibly a maid, just a thought. Oh yeah, our indoor jetted tub didn't work but who wants a hot bath when its 30 degrees celcius outside anyway? The maid took our 20 pesos the first day but didn't do anything, I complained immediately and they were very good after that. I left them 20 pesos everyday and 40 on the last. The location is gorgeous, it is really really nice. There are sand fleas down at the beach though if you go in the early morning or at night and the pools are much more fun. Service is slow at the swim up bar if you're not loud.

Room Tip: most of the rooms look pretty much the same, the preferred towers are a little fancier, get a swimou...

I just got back from a one week stay at Now Amber. Overall, it is a nice resort.

The positives:
Beautiful resort, they put some thought into the architectural details
Easy check in
Very clean resort/property/room.
Beautiful room.
Very comfortable bed (which is a surprise in Mexico).
Great location - convenient to get to downtown
Great food options - I ate at the buffet most of the time because I did not want to put on long pants. The food at all meals was good.
24/7 room service
Nice beach (a bit rocky)
As many beach towels as you want, no "cards" used to get towels
Nice gym - 5 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, 2 climbers, 2 bikes, plenty of weight machines
Plenty of bars
Free wifi
All rooms have views of the pool/ocean. The higher floors have better views.
Corona on tap, Pacifico and Modelo Light in cans
The entertainment staff definitely made an effort which was great to see.

The negatives:
The wifi was very slow/buggy in the room, fairly quick on the beach
Drink service at all meals was slow - I suggest bringing a bottle of water or beer with you from your room. It will take a while to have your first drink served at your meal.
Some of the waiters at the pool/beach weren't interested service even when tipped (I tipped every round)
As others have written, Mexican guests are served better/sooner than non-Mexican guests
The prices at the spa are astronomical
I don't think they have enough space around the pool & beach to accomodate all the guests if the hotel is full. I was there when it wasn't very busy and the pool/beach was fairly crowded.

Overall, I liked the resort.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views. All rooms have views of the pool & ocean. I don't think t...

The resort was fantastic. Was it perfect? No, but it was consistently excellent throughout our stay. We loved the entire experience, which was far superior to any other all-inclusive we've visited. The only disappointing experience was one not-great lunch at the beachfront Castaways restaurant. (Dinner at the same resto was excellent, but we would not go back for lunch -- go to the buffet instead or wait for the poolside chef's special at 2-ish each day for much better food.) Special thanks to Benny in the Preferred Club lounge and Juan at Manatees (the swim-up bar) for excellent service. We loved this resort and we will be back.

Room Tip: Preferred Club rooms have a jacuzzi on the balcony that was a nice spot to retreat to after a long d...

Loved this hotel, and would recommend it in a heartbeat, can't wait to return. Property is beautiful and well maintained, service from all staff was excellent. Plenty of lounge chairs around the pool, wait staff is great, although a $5 tip goes a long way, but is not required for good service. Food was excellent, favourite restaurants were the French and Mexican, portions are small which is to be expected with fine dining. Buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch had something for everyone. Had turndown service every night, and our room was spotless. We had an oceanfront master suite, had requested one with a plunge pool (there are 6 oceanfront master suites, 2 have plunge pools, the rest have jacuzzis on the balcony). Our hotel room was stunning. Lots of hotel activities if you feel like participating. Loved that it is close to town. We did the Vallarta Eats food tour, which I highly recommend, and the Art Walk on Wednesday nights. Suggest "Healing Hands" just outside of the hotel entrance for a massage, only $25. Alex and Martin were great poolside waiters! Check in and checkout at the preferred club reception were a breeze, and we were never asked to participate in a timeshare presentation. Didn't find the beach vendors were aggressive, a simple no is all you need to say. Lobby bar was a wonderful place to relax in the evening. Although we travelled without kids, don't see any reason to pay extra to stay at Secrets, the adults-only side of the resort. Only downside was couldn't get a good cup of coffee, love really strong cofee, although Coco Cafe was okay. Very loud music around the pool in the afternoon makes it difficult to have a siesta in your room. Free wireless internet was good and free calls home to Canada was an unexpected bonus. Thanks to Karen, the Now Amber E-Concierge is helping us put in a request for the specific room we wanted! Love that we didn't have to make reservations for dinner, other than the Teppanyaki table at the Japanese restaurant. Will definately consider staying at another Now resort.

Room Tip: Room 1678 - Oceanfront master suite with a plunge pool, huge gorgeous suite with stunning balcony an...

Just returned from a one week stay at Now Amber. We got the rooms and location we had requested and check in was quick and easy. The rooms were beautiful and always kept very clean. Any problems that were encountered were quickly solved in a timely manner, such as extra coffee or water. One of the rooms had a broken chain on the door and it was fixed in less than an hour. The all included long distance calls were a huge bonus as was the free internet in the cafe on the 3rd floor. There were no issues with elevators as has been mentioned in previous reviews. The buffet was always great for both breakfast and any time it was open for dinner we found it to be very good with a lot of variety. All a la cartes that we experienced had good service and great food. All four of those in our party felt that the amount of food was more than enough with buns, soup, salad, main course along with nice selection of house wine - far better than most resorts - as well as water or choice of drinks and delicious desserts - in fact we found that by dessert we were too full.

The service around the pool was most excellent and the waiters were so lovely to my parents and always making sure they had a drink or water etc. Always extremely respectful and more than helpful. At lunch there are many choices from Castaways pool service or restaurant, the grill or the specials that were served every day by the other bar at the north end of the pool.

Entertainment staff work very very hard to involve people in various activities during the day and always engaged in conversation with hotel guests to ensure we are all having a good time. Hi to Jorge!

There is a lovely lounge on the main floor (3) with great views and cool breezes. Did not get to the disco in the evening, but those who attended a live band on one evening said it was great.

Dinner our first evening was on the beach with a live show. The buffet meal was fantastic with so many choices and included ribs, fresh fish etc. Very well presented and excellent!

All in all this is a beautiful new resort in a great location close to both the malecon to the south by bus or cab or a longer walk, and to the north the marina vallarta, marina terminal and flea markets. Bus is a short 1\2 block to walk. My only comment is with regard to the ramp at the front of the resort - this was a bit of a difficult jaunt for older patrons of the resort who want to walk around the area and so forth. It is quite a long way for older people to walk up and for those with difficulty walking may be a problem. Suggest maybe a golf cart at the bottom of the ramp could be used to help older people to get back up to the top? This is the only reason for the four star rating (rather than 5 star).

Dress codes are well advertised and did not seem unreasonable, adding to a nice atmosphere in the a la cartes. Buffet dress codes were much more relaxed and is always an option for those not wanting to wear long pants and collared shirts to dinner, and included in the two dinners through our week stay that were served right on the beach.

Rooms all included iron, ironing board, self-keyed in safety deposit box, hair dryer, coffee maker, shampoo, robes, and a well stocked mini fridge. Spoke as well to parents with children in the kids club and they were extremely impressed with the club and activities.

Room Tip: Always be polite and respectful to the front desk staff when dealing with room location issues. Th...
