“Great experience but tougher than advertised”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We went on the Puerto Vallarta hike and snorkel tour. We were on the Disney cruise and had booked the excursion through our travel agent. We were able to easily take a taxi to EcoTours location and were pleasantly greeted by the staff. We were all fitted for snorkel gear. We had seven in our party...three adults, two teenagers, a nine year old and a seven year old. Our guide was great and gave us a lot of interesting information as we drove the twenty minute drive to start our hike. We started the hike and were responsible for holding our own snorkel gear. The hike was way more vigorous than a mild 1 mile hike. On a scale of 1-10 in terms of difficulty, I'd rate it a 7. We aren't experienced hikers & there were parts of it where we were holding onto tree branches so we didn't fall down the mountain. The snorkeling was okay...kind of murky water. Lunch was okay. The hike back was fun for the kids but the adults were wiped out and it was even tougher on the way back, so be aware that the hike is pretty tough if you decide to book this tour. Otherwise, our guide was excellent and very helpful and overall, it was an exciting adventure!

“We had the best Guide: Fernando”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

We loved going with this guide. We went bird watching with him and he took us to a charming town called San Sebastian Del Oeste where they make coffee, and the woman also gave us freshly made tortillas. Highly recommended.

“Energetic guide for turtle / crocodile adventure and kayack / snorkel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

We took two tours with ecotours - the turtle / crocodile adventure and kayack / snorkeling. We had the same guide for both and he was energetic, knowledgeable and ensured we had a good time.

The crocodilerium was not too impressive - kinda a mosquito trap. Releasing the turtles was fun and interesting.

Kayaking was fun - a work out for sure. Snorkeling was excellent - the best in terms of seeing many different kinds of fishes up close (keep in mind we only have snorkeled once or twice before on cruise excursions).

If I had it to do per again, I might skip the turtle / crocodile adventure and just watch them release the turtles without the tour. The kayack / snorkeling , though, was one of best days in Vallarta.

“Gotta love those turtles!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

The young man who was the tour guide was very knowledgeable, and courteous! I enjoyed learning from him as the evening progressed. I have always been a lover of nature and all creatures, but your turtle tour reaffirmed that in my heart! Thank you so much! It was a blast!

“How Do They DO It?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Four trips out with Ecotours and each one was better than the last. Basically you are saying, "Hey guys could you find me some whales in the Pacific Ocean?" They say, "We will do our best." Then they proceed to find whales; whales beaching, whales "singing," whales with their babies. Add on to that the fact that you see dolphins; dolphins frolicking, dolphins riding on the wake of your boat, dolphins almost laughing out loud as they play in the water. It is the MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE. The folks employed at Ecotours de Mexico are knowledgable and as a result considerate of the animals. They are get you close enough for fabulous pictures yet far enough away to keep you safe and not intrude on the wildlife they value.
We've also done a birding tour with Alejandro and had a wonderful experience sighting more birds than we ever would have expected. Alejandro was so knowledgable and provided us with a day that was filled with information as well as birds.
I can't say enough about the professionals associated with Ecotours de Mexico. I absolutely suggest booking ahead for the whale tours as they fill up fast. We've always done the early morning tour and advise dressing in layers regardless of how warm it seems as it ends up being quite chilly as you zip along looking for the whales. Then once you stop, it heats up and you'll want lots of sun protection. They do provide a snack and water with the whale tour. However, there are no restroom facilities on the boat, so you'll want to be mindful of that as well.
