“TWELVE YEARS AND COUNTING”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Owning a time share here, I have gone every January for twelve years for periods ranging from one to three weeks. The location and physical facility are spectacular. Across the street is a favorite restaurant called "100% Natural." Walk easily into town. I plan to continue coming for years to come. I read a crazy review by an RCI exchanger who was unhappy. Ignore it. The staff have worked here for years. They are friendly and helpful. That's a very good sign. Yes, this is part of the vibrant time-share industry and they will give you a chance to hear a presentation. You can say no. Well, perhaps a few times. Small issue. I didn't give five stars because there are a few elements missing from being the very best. The beach is not much to rave about, although they have imported sand to cover some of the rocks. The fitness room is puny with antiquated equipment that is more likely to injure you than strengthen you. The Wi Fi is likewise pathetic unless you are in the lobby. Perhaps by next January that will be fixed. Otherwise, the restaurants and bars are great, the prices reasonable. Through the years they keep having management changes. I'm not sure what that is about. At any rate, I just wanted to add my two bits that I love this place and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The ground floor in the "tower" is floor 11 (because the Sheraton Hotel, part of the compl...

We stayed at the Buganvilias from 17 Aug to the 24th and Overall, I have to say our stay at the Buganvilias fell between pretty good and excellent. We had great view of the beach, but if you know the area, the beaches here do not compare to Cancun...a lot of little rocks and virtually no white sand, however I must add that many people still seem to enjoy the beach. The pools are very nice and clean. The grounds are well kept and you will frequently be greeted by the groundskeepers. What we enjoyed most about the Buganvilias is the location as it is located approximately 3 blocks away from the boardwalk, a Mega grocery store and a short bus or taxi ride from the SuperWalmart and Sams. If there is a negative, it has nothing to to do with the hotel, and that is-this time of year Puerta Vallarta is hot and super humid! and also the timeshare pusher army thats situated everywhere in town. I do recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

We stayed her in May. Other than one initial attempt, we were not bothered by the time share folks. We were guests of some owners and they seemed to understand that. We had a corner room with a corner balcony overlooking the inner courtyard and with a view of the ocean as well. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Love the free wi-fi. Would stay here again.

We have been going to Buganvilias Vacation Club for several years & going to Buganvilias again in 1 week. The grounds are immaculate, the pools are very nice & clean, the beach is lovely, the staff are very friendly, attentive & helpful, the atmosphere laid back, the breakfast buffet is great, which is why we keep going back every year. We've stayed in several different hotels/resorts in Puerto Vallarta & Nuevo Vallarta, but we keep coming back to Buganvilias. It really feels like home & it's convenient to everywhere. If you have the opportunity, upgrade to the Presidential, you won't want to ever leave.

The Buganvilias location is great, easy walking distance to the Malacon (walking area by Banderas Bay) with shops & lots & lots of great restaurants; La Langosta Felix (Happy Lobster) & Pipis are just 2 of our favorites. Walk to the Malacon & dinner, then catch a cab back for a couple bucks + tip. We always feel safe in PVR no matter where we walk. Don't miss the fireworks every night from the Pirate Ship along the Malacon.

One stay at Buganvilias & you will be back every year too!

Room Tip: Rooms higher have a better view of Banderas Bay but we've never had a room that wasn't very...

We are in the second week of our stay and enjoying Puerto Vallarta thoroughly. This is our first time at a resort for 2 weeks with the kids and no all inclusive. PV is a great place to go off resort as there are so many things to do and great places to eat. Would definitely recommend going off resort as much as possible as this resort is in an ideal location with old town and the Malecon being within easy walking distance. Main reason this resort is so popular.

Vacation Club:
For those that may not be aware there are two sections to this resort, the Sheraton hotel and vacation (time share) club. Thanks to the in-law's timeshare we were able to get a great rate for two weeks in a 2 bedroom, 2 full bath suite in the vacation club side. The suite is large, very clean, and nicely appointed but nothing fancy. Includes a half kitchen (2 burner stove top (no oven), dishwasher, blender, coffee maker, dishes for 8, etc. We had room 1583 which is on the fifth floor and overlooks the vacation club pool with a partial view of the ocean from a large balcony. The beds are pretty comfy and any small problems we had were dealt with quickly.

The pool on the vacation club side is quite nice and a good size with a couple of water falls on the island which also has a large hot tub. The 16 year old restriction for the hot tub was routinely ignored and seems a silly rule given that this is primarily a family resort with a gazillion kids running about.

Check-in:
Went smoothly with no problems except for the welcoming committee. We were already aware but it was amusing to be subjected to the timeshare game and "invited" to a breakfast and promises of "gifts" we would receive. The only gift which was of any value was the 2 weeks of free internet (worth $140 USD). If we would have paid that much for the flaky internet it would have been upsetting. The timeshare presentation the next day hasn't changed much in 10 years and I'm surprised they still use that outdated sales methodology.

Restaurants:
We went to the Italian place for dinner once as the buffet for breakfast. The Italian place was a disappointment given that there are much better and less expensive places off resort. The buffet had the typical buffet food with the best being the omelette stand.

Overall this is a nice resort if you are looking for a home base to explore what PV has to offer.

Overall, we had a wonderful honeymoon and would definitely love to come back and stay here in the future.

The good:

-Beautiful view of the pool, ocean, sunset, and north bay from the balcony

-Wonderful housekeeping

-Nice murphy bed, all kitchen basics, lovely shower, and enough space

-Perfect location! It is just north of downtown and old town is just a little farther. The Mega (grocery store) is just north and a great place to buy groceries. We never paid for a taxi except to and from the airport, and we were able to walk everywhere, except the marina. Some people might find it a tiring walk, but we love to walk and the scenery was wonderful. We felt safe the whole time.

-The pool and hot tub were enjoyable, the island even has iguanas living on it!

-Overall friendly staff

The not so good:

- Remember to print out your confirmation, we only had it on our phone, and it took probably 30-45 minutes to figure that all out, as they wanted a hard copy. They were helpful though, it was just a long process, and we were sent to walk to talk to various people around the hotel when we were tired and just wanting to get checked in.

-We had flight problems getting there, so we checked in 2 days late. We were told we could stay an extra day (since we paid for a week), but on the last day they took back what they said and we were rushed to pack and check out so we did not have to pay a $100 late fee for missing check out time.

-The in hotel restaurants looked very nice but were expensive, so we chose to eat in town, where the food was delicious and cheaper.

-No beach by the hotel, it is too rocky. A nice beach is just to the south. We knew this coming in but it is still worth mentioning. It is possible to walk down the beach from the hotel to nicer sandy beaches, just make sure to have on shoes that won't hurt when walking on rocks!

-As I said before, we had a wonderful honeymoon and would love to come back, these are just a few things to remember!

Room Tip: All rooms in the main Buganvilias building have great rooms with ocean views and balconies, as the o...
