“Nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Very friendly and accomidating staff. Great food and drink. Very clean and well cared for property. Well located. Close to a few stores and amenities and a short bus or cab to down town.
Not the best beach. Very limited space as the tide is ruff and will sweep you away. The lounge on the top of the 8th floor has a mega wonderful view and is lovely up there but they open mid even and close by 11:00ish depending on the nite. Do not open on Sunday nites. The only other bar is the one by the pool which is great all day but not nice for evening visiting cause your sitting on the plastic chairs by the day snack shack. There is no other formal club/pub place to go. Note: alot of rooms do not have balconies and alot of the ones they have do not have great views.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony when you originally book. Recheck when you check in. A few dollars to the desk att...

check in was easy, well organized, very friendly people, very accommodating, daily room service was more than expected and very clean. Pool has an area for kids & a swim up bar. Enough chairs around the pool with umbrellas.

This is a lovely spot; casual, laid-back atmosphere, with super friendly staff. The resort is older, but very well-maintained, and things run very smoothly, with great service, no matter the time of day. Our flight had been delayed, and even though we arrived in the middle of the night, we were very warmly received, and quickly checked-in and ushered to our room. The food is good (be sure to take advantage of the themed nights at the a la carte restaurant!) and although the buffet is relatively the same day-to-day, it was great to see an array of traditional Mexican food (i.e. I don't want to travel to Mexico and eat hotdogs - although those are available, too). All in all, this resort is exactly as it represents itself to be, and a great spot to spend a week in the sun. And only a 20 min walk to downtown, either along the road, or along the beach (and it's even a shorter taxi ride - only cost 50 pesos, $5 US/CAN). Great value for the money, and would definitely stay here again!

My boyfriend and I went to this resort in January. Upon arrival, you're greeted with welcome drinks, and smiling staff. Edgar was amazing, helped us with SO much! The location is awesome, minutes from downtown. Next time, I may choose a resort with a younger crowd, as it was a bit overrun with older people, not ideal if you're going to stumble back to the resort at four/five in the morning ... The only drawback is the buffet food, not really the best, but if you walk a little ways away from the resort, there's an AMAZING sushi bar, and a pretty decent sports bar/grill with great food. Great choice for the money.

We stayed at the Pelicanos Grand resort from Jan.18- Jan.25, 2013. Check in was fast considering it was just our group of 8 that arrived. Rooms were decent and had a view of the streets. The buffet was small and had alright food, it would have been nice to have had more of the Mexican meals to try but still fine. We ate at two of the a la carte meals where one night was the Brazilian which was very good and the Italian that was okay and could have been better. There were two bars to drink at, one was the Sky bar on top of the travel club building and the other at the pool where we enjoyed most of the time. There is only one big pool which is heated and was nice to swim in. The service was great and the drinks were good. We had a couple that stayed at the club side that they thought they would be able to use the facilities at the grand side where the rest of the group stayed. The manager after a couple days informed the couple that they had to sign in when they came over and could not have drinks or food unless they payed for it, which was understandable since there resort was about a block and a half away from the grand, when they booked the travel agency told them they could have use of the facilities of the grand as well to be close to the group but it turned out to be false. The resort didn't have much for activities to do and if you like to listen to Kenny G all day then this is the place for you.We met a few other travelers from Canada and the United States, the resort also caters to locals as well which is fine and gives the resort a bit more charm. The beach itself is very small and the waves early in the morning hit the walls of gates of the resort. Beach venders were all over and usually took no for an answer while others hounded you til you left the beach. All in all we had a great trip but would not stay at this resort again just because we would like a bit more entertainment for the adults and teenage kids and more of a beach where we could actually swim in. If you are adventurous then try the zipling from Vallarta Adventures.

We stayed here all inclusive and the hotel itself was nice, nothing spectacular. The pool was very nice with a swim up bar and the bar tenders were great, They let us stay in the pool and keep drinking even though we had checked out. The location isnt very great and not much to do around there other than to catch a taxi downtown. Even though the hotel is on the beach there wasnt really much of a beach to take advantage of. You get what you pay for and if on a budget, I would definitely stay here again.

This resort is quite small by all inclusive standards and it is a 3 star. Keep that in mind and you will not be disappointed. All ratings are based on these facts.
First impressions are that the hotel is clean and well kept. Tropical climates will wear a building down quickly and this shows little sign of that. The design is fairly typical Mexican architecture.
Most of the complex is older but still in good condition. There is a newer tower but that appears to be mainly given to "Vacation Club" members (ie. time share)
We traveled with Sunwing and the transfer bus dropped us off at the next door hotel but it was a short walk and the bellboy was right there to help us with our bags. This was indicative of the level of service at this hotel. Totally first rate.
We were greeted with a welcome drink and they stored our bags while we checked in. We were too early to get to our room but we got our wrist bands and were free to go anywhere we wished.
The room was on the back side of the building but was large, clean and had a king size bed with a pull out couch bed which we never used. With the exception of one night where the neighbouring hotel was having a large party it was very quiet. (other than a couple of rowdy kids) There were a couple of very minor items with the room, a noisy air conditioner fan and a small toilet leak. Both were fixed within half an hour.
Because of the size of the resort the food selection is limited but the quality is very good. It may take a little sampling if you don't like spicy foods.
There are two restaurants besides the buffet but they are only both open on the weekends.
Otherwise they alternate using the main restaurant. The Brazilian is outside on the patio when both are open. The food at both is great. Smallish portions at the Mexican but it is a 3 course meal with more available if you want it. Sergio is a very attentive waiter. If I started a restaurant business there I would try to steal him away to manage it. The portions at the Brazillian are huge with them coming sround with vegetables (Peppers, potato, pineapple) and various meat on skewers (pork, beef, chicken) from which you have as much as you want. The waiters there are equally attentive.
Likewise, the staff at the buffet will look after you very well. Kudos to the young lady cooking the eggs/omelets.
The activity staff were great. Raul is a very personable young man and full of life, energy and humour. Tony who helps and runs the towel station is also great. He is a great source of information. Between them you can be as occupied as you want to be. Aerobics, kayaking, games etc.
The pool is heated well and no shock to the system. We had no trouble finding poolside cots or beachfront loungers(although those are more popular). They don't allow reserving, although some do, and state they will remove unattended items if left for more than an hour.
The beach is okay but one of the smallest around but the water is fine and it is large enough.
The hotel is within walking distance to the Malecon and old town, maybe 20-30 minutes. There is also plenty of shopping in the neighbouring plazas.
One niggle is the price of internet connection. The computer in the lobby is available for free for 20 minutes but is so old and slow it takes almost that long to connect. The wifi is $10.95/day or $40 for 5 days and is on an automatic timer so you don't get one minute extra.
Also, the toilet paper is about the cheapest you could possibly find. It's weak and tears easily and has little absorbency.
Tours are available through the tour operator, the hotel staff, who will offer you a discount if you take a tour of the new tower next door for 90 minutes which is more like two hours.
Tips are very welcome by everyone as they don't make a lot of money and put in long hours. It always helps to grease the wheels in resorts but I never found it necessary at all. The service is so good you will want to anyway.
General tips: When walking around, everyone is very friendly but they all have something to sell. Many of the Tequilerias also sell time shares and tours. Really, don't get into conversations with them unless you are interested because they can be so smooth they have sucked you in before you know it. We did get some very useful information from one who actually comes from Calgary. He is in the one closest to the McDonalds at the north end of the Malecon and I think he only sells Tequila.
This hotel is one of the least expensive available and you definitely get value for the money spent. Jan 18-25/2013
