“Great vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We spent one week at the Melia and had a fantastic stay. Food was great. Service was excellent. Rooms were clean. There are many lounge chairs so no need to get up early to save them. Loved all the restaurants.

Our recent trip through America and Mexico and this was our favorite hotel. We had been let down by 'all inclusives' previously so werent expecting much. However the food was amazing, rooms immaculate and huge, staff super friendly, and also the restaurant on site was flawless. The only bad thing is we didnt get to spend more nights here. We got complimentary upgrade to an executive room and could see the entire harbour.

Room Tip: All rooms have views!

We went with a party of 12 and were taken care of very well from the concierge Carlos to the server by the pool Rozy, to Freddy at the water sports area all were amazing!! Will be back in december! I can definitely say that this is one of the best experiences I have had in a resort, I would like to thank all of the staff that were there and hope all of you enjoy as much as we did!

Just returned from a week at the Melia. Very friendly staff in ALL areas of the hotel, clean rooms, well cared for gardens and pool area. The food was fine - we did get a bit tired of the buffet after a week, but there are 3 a la carte restaurants to choose from too. Lots to do around the pool and for kids - kids club, organized activities & games, kayaking, archery, water polo, sea-doo's ($), feeding the fish or resident iguanas. Pros: kids activities and evening shows, pool area, service, super close to airport, excellent price for value received. Cons: food is OK but not fantastic, our room safe was flaky at times, the scuba guy never showed up to do the daily "demo"! All in all, a great family vacation - we met some wonderful people! We would definitely visit this resort or other Melia resorts in the future.

We booked through Westjet. The flight, customs and the airport went well. Listen to other reviewers when they tell you to say "no, gracias," to the folks in the shark tank. The Westjet helpers will meet you and greet you and answer questions. The ride to the resort is quick (maybe 10 or 15 minutes). The entrance to the Melia Resort is lush. The entire resort has beautiful landscaping, which, in addition to the breezes off the ocean, keeps you cooler than you would be without it. I respect the Melia's commitment to environmental sustainability. The foliage is designed to cool the buildings and it works.
I loved the architecture of the resort, grand and comfortable.
Like so many others, I cannot say enough about the staff. They were universally friendly and hardworking and helpful. And they work very hard. We enjoyed the restaurants. The Italian was our favourite; Jonathan is superb member of the staff. My husband found the buffet food a little bland. But bland works for most people. I loved the fish and soft tacos at lunch. If I needed coffee any time during the day, a server could get it for me.
We had to move rooms and we did this through wonderful Brian at guest relations. If you have booked a package through someone other than Melia, you have to remember that you are lower on the totem pole of guests. But that doesn't mean you won't get what you need when you need it.
Easter is the start of their busy season, so plan accordingly.
Our favourite activities were archery, the batting cage, ping pong, the pool tables and all the fun organized by the incredible activity staff (all of you)! And we loved every performance in the theatre. We went every night. The dancers were amazing.
I've read comments about the resort being tired and the pool needing some work, but really, it's fine. If you need a 5 star, then go to one. This entire trip was relaxing and fun. We enjoyed practicing Spanish.
I'm an ocean swimmer, I loved the beach. The waves in the afternoon will pummel you. Pay attention to the warning flags. Morning is better for younger families. The vendors were polite and responded well to "no, gracias".
Bring your $1 bills and tip. I appreciated that none of the staff behaved like they expected a tip.
Charlie, at the Gray Line tour desk in the lobby, was so helpful with activities and could field any question.
It is a family resort with kids everywhere. So if you don't like kids, this is not for you. It is also festive. Spring breakers are sometimes next door and the music goes boom, boom. But that adds to the fun. Sigh, I wish we were there. Thank you Melia.!

Room Tip: We liked our deluxe garden room. So I would say accept your room and then change it if it doesn'...

Overall, the resort was decent and the people were really friendly. I was disturbed to find out that the Orion Coffee bar/cafeteria was NOT part of the all inclusive package! We tried to have an afternoon cappuccino and the lady told us it was not included and the price was $4!! i don't think so! I understand if you're ordering a $500 bottle of wine, or massage etc, that it's not included.. but coffee?????? Also, don't forget your sunscreen because the gift shop inslide will charge you $27.50 for a small bottle! This is definitely a nice family resort, but if you're looking for something a little more relaxing and peaceful you'll need to go to an adults only.

I think it's a testimate when so many people seem to remember the names of employees at a resort. I have four from Melia...

Carlos - Scouts potential clients for club Melia. Super friendly, helpful :)
Oliver - Salesman after Carlos found us. Super wonderful, friendly, helpful, no pressure and we did not purchase a membership.
Sylvia!!! Yum, she DOES make the best omlettes/eggs I've ever had and always served up with a genuine smile.
ANGEL - need I say more? He kept the drinks flowing always remembering what we ordered yesterday and knew how quickly to bring more. AWESOME!!

This was my first ever trip out of Canada, seeing the ocean, palm trees etc. Just my BFF and I, no husbands or children. Amazing. Although I was happy to have some R&R time with my husband and children (10 & 5) would have also had an amazing time at this resort. If you are bringing children do not even hesitate. They will absolutely love it. If you are not bringing children, no need to worry either there is so much for them to do you will only notice them if you're looking for them.

We ate at the Italian & seafood restaurant. Wasn't really impressed with either. It was good but the buffet would also have been just as good. There was always lots available to eat whenever I chose to eat.

Room was clean, first couple of days had a leak at the back of the toiled. We just put down a towel didn't feel any need to complain as we "were on holidays" and were already feeling blessed. The drip was fixed without us even having to say anything!!! The beds were so comfortable.

Go, Go, Go!!!
