“Puerto Vallarta on a budget”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

I traveled to PV for a week in June as part of a mission trip. The hotel was selected because of price and an all-inclusive option for meals. Given the nature of our trip, I was very pleased, but my rating is based on staying here for a vacation. The staff was the best part of the hotel, as they were pleasant, spoke English, and were always helpful. The check-in/check-out was efficient and the bellman very helpful. There is a large pool area, although due to the shallow depth, the water was pretty warm. They have a nice beach area, with thatched umbrellas and chairs. The buffet food was good, but became routine after a week. They always had a special entree that was cooked to order and very good: waffles, pancakes and eggs for breakfast; taco bar, and pasta with fresh vegetables for dinner. The all-inclusive includes beer, wine, and limited mixed drinks. Just don't expect top shelf liquor or wine. Our first room (even number) had the afternoon sun, and even with the shades drawn, the AC couldn't keep up. Our toilet didn't work, and after two tries at fixing it, they moved us to a pool-view (odd number) room. This had shade in the afternoon, and the AC had no problem keeping the room comfortable. You will have a mini-fridge in the room, but don't expect it to make anything cold, only mildly cooled. Ice was plentiful at the end of the hallways. The room was clean and neat, although the bathroom looked old and had the typical layers of thick caulk to seal the tub. We did have great water pressure. Overall, if you're on a budget, this is a nice place to stay. It's only a 50 peso cab ride to the downtown and the Malecon.

Room Tip: Pick a pool-view room, as you'll get the morning sun, but shade in the afternoon. The air condi...

This was my first vacation ever out of the country me and my wife stayed here in 2009 in August it was very hot and the check in desk took about an hour to check in since the front desk was so small and there was like 100 people trying to check in. They seemed to cater to the time share owners over you ... The resort was average for our first trip we had nothing to compare it to until I have been a few different places it was way below average. The bedrooms were small and the bed was a box spring not even a mattress it felt like you slept on a slab on concrete and woke up in pain we unfortunately went to Walmart the first morning and bought a blow up air mattress ... It helped a bit . The food there was awful we both got very sick from something we ate there we were both sick for 3 weeks after returning home. I hope that you will read my review and think somewhere else for your vacation !!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn, Puerto Vallarta in April of 2013. I had a wonderful time at the hotel. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and the service was excellent. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool was amazing - with a swim up bar and activities planned all day - including water aerobics. The hotel is right on the beach - so all you have to do is walk outside and you are at the ocean. You can swim and lay out on the hotel lawn chairs while at the beach. All of the beach vendors are very friendly and I made a lot of new friends for the week! Three people that stood out as being extra helpful where: Josue, Daniela, & Pedro! They gave ma great room overlooking the pool and beach. We did not do the all inclusive and we had a great time taking the local bus for a very cheap rate into town and got a variety of food! I highly recommend this hotel and I will be back! We went to Yelapa one day. Which is an island that takes 45 minutes to get to on a water taxi. There are no cars on the island and there is a wonderful woman who sells pies there! The whole trip was relaxing and amazing from beginning to end and the Holiday Inn was the hub of all of the happiness!

I made reservation with up graded to $91.50 per night for 4 nights. When we arrived on 5/26/2013, front desk lady said that corner rooms will cost $35 more per night extra, but will give it to me with some tips to her? I have ask for the manager then she gave me room #930 instead of room numbers ending with 29's ( 629,729,829,or 929) which has ocean & city view. But all the room number ending with 30's are facing the next tall condo building. Every night until 4am, very loud disco music played. Bad food and no near by restaurants. No jacuzzi, and pool was so warm. Book the hotel close to the city so you can walk to many good restaurants.

Room Tip: Bring your ear plug for sleeping.

This is a great hotel for Mexican college kids who run wild on the property and management caters to them. Loud thumping music was played all day and night. The kids didn't eat much food on the property and orderded out for pizza and bring their own beer. The music got louder, and they even used a bull horn. I have also stayed here when there was an all night wedding party with loud music. It is a great location and should be relaxing, but you cannot hear the ocean waves, read at the pool or sleep at night. Try staying at the Sheraton near town for a vacation resort.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs, and ask hotel when the Mexican spring break is, or if they have a wedding planned b...

My wife and I went to visit family in Guadalajara, we were surprised to find out that they had planned a trip to Puerto Vallarta! We stayed at this hotel and got the all inclusive deal and it was AMAZING! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delicious! The pool is awesome, but who wants a pool when the beach is a few steps away! Downtown is only a 10 minute cab ride away! I would definitely stay here again!

Well this was my wife's and mine third trip to a tropical resort and first in mexico so I will list the pro's and con's

pros
1) very well kept
2) granite bathroom and granite all over the hotel
3) staff's understanding of English is very high
4) free internet
5) kiddy pool
6) no charge safe in room.

Con's

1) non-alcoholic beaverages in bar fridge is not free
2) snack bar open only when high number of occupants are at the hotel
3) Small buffet as they cater to the condo owners that are part of the resort
4) caters more to Mexican guest more the all inclusive guests
5) no real night entertainment

I liked the English ability of the staff and how nice the resort looked and felt. I felt that the resort is a hotel with condo owners on it and that they have an all-inclusive package because they have to offer one. The buffet was small and didn't have a big dessert area, there is no free non motorized water sport equipment which was disappointing.

Service changed dramatically when 8-10 bus loads of collage students arrived which is funny because they didn't spend a lot of money on the resort ( pizza hut was arriving hourly) which they came on a Thursday. The resort suddenly opened the snack bar and had a huge selection of desserts and they started having bigger night entertainment.

Overall this is a hotel not a resort as they cater to condo owners on the property (they also have the highest tower) non-inclusive guests, and locals. They don't have anything to keep you in the resort and my wife and I found ourselves taking the transit bus to wal-mart a lot to get snacks and water to have in our room.
