“Great Staff, Average Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

When we arrived at this resort our first impression was good, clean well kept grounds, lobby updated and clean. We were taken up to our room and although we are not much for complaining this room was terrible, the furniture had rips and tears in it, the patio doors would not close and it was very dirty and outdated. We went to the front desk and without hesitation Dalia sent us with a guy to check out 2 other rooms, we settled on a 17th floor room, it was ok, had a great view and was quite a bit cleaner and updated.
Like most of the reviews say, the staff here are outstanding, everyone is super friendly and helpful, no complaints there. There is not a lot of selection however for food, there is 1 buffet and 2 a la cartes, which alternate days so only 1 a la carte open per night. The food is pretty good, always fresh and warm with lots of fruits and veggies but not much selection. Breakfast is great but for the rest of the day we actually went into PV a couple times to eat because we got pretty tired of the same old thing every day here.
This is a fairly quiet resort, however the resort next door has loud music blaring over a muffled speaker system, and at night there is a carnival/midway behind the resort, not sure if its there year round but we had to crank up the fan at night to drown out the noise.
So this resort has its good(staff, location(close to airport, downtown, mall, supermarket), nice beach, clean lobby and facilities), and its bads (outdated rooms, same food all week, loud).
The worst part though about this resort is that the vendors and sales people are RELENTLESS, the salespeople have a booth right at the elevators and also in the lobby, every trip to and from your room you have to pass them and they NEVER quit, I know the vendors are only trying to make a living but there is no restrictions on them here, they pester you when resting on the beach, trying to swim and even while eating at the restaurant.

Room Tip: For $60 per person, we upgraded to a junior suite which gives you a separate living room and bedroom...

The Mexican restaurant was delicious but the Italian was not. The activity staff and waiters are amazing, especially gustabo. Great people. The hotel on the other hand is falling apart and needs improvement. No wonder the hotel is dead

Room Tip: Make sure you get a condo. The hotel rooms are discusting

We stayed for one week at the Holiday Inn in PV. We arrived around noon and surprisingly got into our rooms. Usually, you can't check into a room until 3:00 or 4:00 or later!! Our first room was on the 18th floor with an air conditioner that did not work. We asked to change rooms and they put us in a larger room with very cold air!! Our room could have been cleaner and some updates would be nice. Like some other readers have said, the maid service had to be requested most days. And we tip!! The ice is hard to find on your own but if you call the desk, they will send some up. The staff at the front desk and in the lobby are very nice and friendly and our requests were answered fairly quickly. If you are looking for inexpensive food, I would say take a walk downtown and dine there. Our breakfast at the airport was cheaper than what we had at the Holiday Inn!! Like many places, it has it's good and bad. If you are expecting ultra fancy with all amenities and full service, this isn't the place for you. If you just want a nice pool, friendly staff, a big beach and fun in the sun, then this hotel will probably be just fine!!

Our rooms were not ready when we arrived; every day, they were very slow cleaning the rooms. The food in the resort restaurant was horrible to say the least; the same food every day and a lot of pre-packaged items. Forget cream for the coffee, learn to live with CoffeeMate and be prepared for fried wieners disguised as "pork sausage" and processed, frozen hamburger patties. The Italian restaurant on site was very good but give the Mexican restaurant a pass. The resort is flooded with locals who clearly do not like us Canadians or Americans "intruding" and yes, the "save a chair by the pool" abounds. Some of the chairs sat empty most of the day which was unfair to the paying guests. Signage states the items will be removed w/i 30 minutes but that never happened. Poolside very noisy with some DJ guy and loud music; the pool bar was empty most of the time and the bars have short service hours. Service was great as long as you kept tipping so the "all-inclusive" is a misnomer. The TV is pretty much all in Spanish, no English channels available. This resort does not cater to Canadian/American guests. I feel ripped-off and won't return to this hotel; Holiday Inn should be ashamed of putting their name on this place.

Room Tip: Our room on the top (9th) floor faced the pool and offered a good view of the ocean and the city

First of all, this hotel, despite the white and green decor and name, has nothing to do with the chain.
The nicest word to describe the decor in the halls is "shabby".
The staff was very nice, and we did have a great room with a great view.
However, the food was awful. The first couple of meals I had there I ordered off the a la carte, which, of course, costs extra. After that I only ate there when I had to. I paid for an all inclusive which means that I paid twice for every meal I ate outside of the hotel. I would never go back there again and I would advise everyone else to avoid this place like "poison".

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel.

We spent Spring Break with the kids here and it met our needs (space, proximity to town, kids club and cost). That said, this property has definitely seen better days and the wear is obvious.

We rented a two bedroom condo from a private owner (and got a good deal on vrbo.com). It had a small kitchen, two bathrooms and all the basics were covered. Given that, I will limit my review to the hotel property, amenities and service.

The property is older and a little weathered. The grounds are decent and the pictures of the property give you a pretty good sense of the place. You will definitely see cracked paint, missing tiles, worn carpets and stained linens. It has definitely been well used. The pool area is large and was heated to a comfortable temperature. While I wouldn't say the place is clean, it isn't dirty either. It's passable, but won't impress anyone. The mid-day pool entertainment bordered on mild nuisance (water aerobics or loud Spanish house music) and obnoxious (an interminable full contact water polo game featuring a play-by-play over loudspeakers). The "reserve a chair by putting your towel on it" game is in full effect here, so if you want to sit by the pool you better get up early, despite the fact that no one seems to be using said chairs.

The beach area is pretty nice, with a wide swath of beach to play or sunbathe. There are a TON of salespeople on the beach and you will be approached ALL day. I can't blame anyone for wanting to make a living, but saying "no gracias" all day gets old. You can walk or jog the beach in either direction and it's a great spot to watch the sun go down. There are massage tables set up on the point, making a nice spot from an outdoor oceanfront massage. (I had Paloma and she was great).

The main restaurant has a buffet as well as an a la cart menu. We did not select the all-inclusive option, and I am glad we didn't. The food was average to below average, but the servers were friendly and nice. The website touts that there are two more upscale restaurants on property, but this is sort of misleading. There is a Mexican restaurant and an Italian restaurant, which open on alternating days. Thus, one night the Mexican restaurant is open, the next night Italian. The Italian place does not welcome children and the Mexican place has a dress code that they strictly enforce: No shorts, no open-toed shoes or sandals. This is Mexico, people. Who brings long pants on vacation in 85 degree weather? This is the Holiday Inn, not a Michelin star restaurant. It was quite annoying. We talked to some other guests and were told we didn't miss much. There are much better options in town or nearby - a short 10 minute 50 peso cab ride away. There is a Starbucks about 500 yards away if you get really desperate for wi-fi and/or a latte.

The hotel claims to have an adult only "oasis" pool area, but this is also misleading. There is a teeny, dank pool on a rooftop with a few uncomfortable chairs around it with some sand poured around the concrete to make it feel "beachy." It smells bad, so in the end it comes off more like an unattended litter box. In a week on property, I never saw anyone frequent the oasis. It is uninviting to say the least. The "gym" is near the "oasis" and it is small and not very well equipped. It has a couple busted cardio machines and a solo-flex like aparatus. Underwhelmed.

The hotel claims to have free wi-fi in the lobby and common areas, though I could never get it to work at any passable speed. Fortunately, our condo came equipped with wi-fi with its own router so it wasn't an issue. If, however, you are counting on Holiday Inn wi-fi, be warned it is downright awful.

There is a kids club on-site and it is included in the hotel's amenities. This kids club had some strange rules: they don't take the kids outside and they don't have any scheduled activities. They just sort of let them play in a playroom. They don't take them to the pool or the beach. They are open 9-2 and 3-5 and parents are not to leave the property while the kids are in the kids club. This defeats the purpose if you had an adult excursion like zip-lining in mind, but might give you a couple hours respite from the little ones. The first couple of days the kids club was EMPTY: no other kids = not much fun. The last few days, the kids had made some friends at the pool and wanted to go to kids club to play with them and make some crafts. For what it's worth the staff was really nice and the kids seemed to enjoy them.

There is also a game room (with a janky air hockey table, a foosball table, two working X-Box machines (a big hit with our boys and cost of 50 pesos for 15 minutes) and a broken dance, dance revolution arcade game.

The location of the hotel is convenient. A short cab ride to town or a short walk to the grocery store. There are lots of other hotels in the area, but this one seemed to attract the most locals. As Americans, we were definitely in the minority, followed by a handful of Canadians. The overhwhelming majority were local Mexicans, who were not overnight guests at the hotel. We gathered that this place must offer a pretty good deal on day passes to locals, so the pool fills up early with entire families coming to spend the day in the pool. As a result, the hotel staff is primarily used to dealing with local Mexican customers. Not a problem because this is Mexico after all, but definitely a distinction from a more upscale hotel.

Everything seemed uncommonly difficult for the hotel staff. From asking about wi-fi to restaurant suggestions to exchanging money, everything took a LONG time and semed to involve a pretty serious language barrier.

This place met our needs, but I doubt I would go back. Once in a lifetime, but not in the way you'd hope. On another note, go to The Happy Lobster (Longosta Feliz) for dinner. Great informal spot with good seafood, mariachis, and a terrific Spanish coffee.

A group of my girlfriends and I took our first trip as a big group in December till January! We decided over new years would be an awesome experience. For some of us this was our first hot trip. The staff was very accomadating when we first arrived our rooms were in different towers but after the first night they rearranged our rooms so we could be beside each other. The breakfast buffet was good. Lunch and supper foods were ok, to much seafood for my liking but they did have two different a la carte and a very good snack bar which we attended a lot! They had new activities everyday and the beach was steps off the resort. We were never bored while we were there, The staff was amazing to hang out with and get to know, we never met one person who was rude or wasn't ready to have fun. The staff treated us like royalty they would always be involving us in activites and if we wanted to go off the resort at night they would always come with us getting us cabs and making sure we had rides home! This was an amazing experience and I would definitely go back! Special thanks to Raymundo, Freddy, Paco, Victor and Gustavo. There are a ton of other staff that were awesome but can't quite remember their names.

Thank you Holiday Inn for my 2012-2013 experience<3
