“16th Century looks & smell”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Last March we vacationed at Crown Paradise in Cancun. In December we vacationed at Crown Paradise in Puerto Vallarta. There is no comparison; Cancun was like paradise with pools, an excellent kids club, excellent entertainers, beautiful rooms and food wow amazing... In Puerto Vallarta well it's the complete opposite, morn, lunch and din buffet was the same all the time with very little choice, the rooms were OK but smelly even if you kept your doors open, my daughter had to sleep on the concrete sofa not a pull out. The kids club was boring as hell and the pool for the kids well you had to be with them it wasn't part of the kids club, so it's safe to say we didn't get a small break from our kids, even the staff for the entertainment was boring. The evening shows at Nitro were very good but very loud. On a positive note my husband spent 2 1/2 days at the San Janvier Hospital... Very clean, staff was amazing and at his beck and call, food was good, he had a very comfortable stay and would recommend the hospital if need be.

If you are a family with young children and limited budget for a tropical vacation, this resort is a good choice.

The waterslides and children's pool is better than most. The staff had a great entertainment night for kids, set up outside - really cool games, contests, carnival like snacks and music, my 8 year old loved it! He is a shy boy and the staff is really good at encouraging all the kids to participate. Good pool table room where my son and his dad had a nightly pool game! The beach restaurant caters to kids - ready made pizza, fries, and make all you want ice cream cones with no clothing restrictions.

The food and drinks are not the best I've had in Puerto Vallarta, but the lower price makes it manageable for some families to bring the kids, who normally could not afford it. Room was on the small side and dated, but we paid for the lowest priced room, I'm sure you could pay a little more for a bigger/nicer room. However, when you take small kids on a vacation to Mexico, the MOST important thing to everyone's enjoyment, is having them entertained, and this resort does. We would bring our family back.

Tip for parents whose kids don't like sitting at the dinner table:
The buffet has outdoor tables-get one! The kids can eat fast (which ours does) and then play a few feet away in the sand and beach scene watch, while mom and dad can enjoy their wine and dinner, while keeping an eye on the kids. Bring a few hot wheels cars and action figures, and my son was good for an hour!

I am a single mom of 3 and decided I wanted to take my kids on a vacation. This resort was recommended by a travel agent I know and we thought it was excellent! I was worried about the safety coming to Mexico alone with my kids at first but we felt completely safe! We went to several activities and visited downtown puerto Valletta and never felt uneasy or unsafe either walking around or in the cab ride. The resort was beautiful and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful! Having the kids club was really nice because I could have a few hours to myself each day! The price was amazing we only paid $2600 for 4 people 7 nights including airfare!! The all inclusive factor was great several options for food and drinks for both kids and adults and you really dont have to think much about bringing too much spending money. There is a flea market just a block away that has some great mexican souvenirs and they will definitely go down in the price of things if you ask. The cab fare to downtown was less than ten dollars and only about a five min drive. The kids really enjoyed the small water park they had, the water park and pools were very clean and well kept! I would recommend this resort to anyone with kids. They have a all adults resort too if your looking to get away on a kid free vacation.

This was our second stay at Crown Paradise and I have mixed reviews about it. We stayed over the holidays and while we enjoyed our stay it was more a matter of a few people made it enjoyable despite some of the problems.
First the positives.
We stayed on the adult only side and really appreciate going to the restaurants that are children free and the beach and pool that restrict children. You can go to the other side of the resort and eat at their restaurants, which are quite good if you want.
The resort has made an effort to really update the outside areas. They worked hard to make the pool, beach and outside grounds look fresh and updated this year and I think they did a good job.
Much of the staff are still there from last year and we received a warm welcome from the friendly ones. (The front desk staff still has some of the unfriendliest people around).
We stayed for 2 nights then checked out to go on a 4 night stay in a different place then came back to the hotel for 11 nights. The hotel was accommodating in keeping our extra luggage and putting us on the same floor when we returned, however, it was because we asked around to the other staff and bell captain after being told no way by the front desk.
We were invited to a returnee dinner on the beach and it was wonderful. Good food and entertainment and a very warm atmosphere. I can see why people come back to the resort over and over.
While the food quality slipped a little it is still better than any all inclusives we have been to in the past. The wine quality has actually improved quite a bit from last year.
The beach and the views cannot be beat.
Neither can the location. You are only a short bus or taxi ride to downtown or the marina and walking distance to many things.
Now the negatives.
The rooms need an update badly. They are looking very tired and shabby and both of our rooms had sewer smell issues.
Most of the staff are wonderful but a few are some of the grumpiest, unhappiest people I have run across. They might want to consider a job change out of customer service.
They charge a fortune for internet and then the signal is so weak in the rooms you need to be outside on your balcony or by the pool to get a signal.
The biggest negative is the smoking situation. They have no clear division between smoking and non-smoking areas. Other than inside of a restaurant there is no place to go that will guarantee a smoker will not sit next you you. This is especially a problem at the outside food and bar areas. If they would just designate seperate areas they could take care of this problem easily.
My biggest complaint was they changed the sit down breakfasts to a buffet. When I first picked this resort it was because I do not like buffet style eating and half way through our stay they changed over their breakfast to a third rate buffet with cold food and the same menu every morning. That alone would make me not return.

On the most part this is a good resort. They just need a few changes to make it a wonderful resort.

Room Tip: Stay on the 6th floor ocean front rooms. The views are fabulous and you here the ocean without getti...

Our family of parents, children and grandparents just spent a very satisfactory two weeks of Christmas break based at the Crown Paradise Club. This family-oriented all-inclusive resort was good for all of us. It is located about 10 minutes by taxi from the airport on a very nice sandy beach with calm to gentle waves (at least in December.) We had side-by-side rooms with two queen beds each and one pack and play. We were located on the second floor, with balconies overlooking the adult pool and with a nice view of the ocean. (223-224) The room has a built in safe (bring a lanyard or key chain for the key), a small refrigerator, color TV (several English language channels), AC, closet with hangers, bathtub shower combo and WiFi in the room (for a fee-we bought a week's worth for $69.00 US). Two blocks away is a large, full service supermarket (good place to buy sun screen and sand toys), and Costco and Walmart are short taxi rides away. (It costs about $5US to take a taxi ride with a maximum of 4 people/taxi, to the Malacon, or Costco, or Walmart.) Our review of the food is from the perspective of vegetarians. The Breakfast Buffet was excellent...large variety of fresh fruit including melon, papaya and pineapple: yogurt, cereal, pancakes, waffles, French toast and omelettes. Delicious Mexican hot chocolate, chilaquilas and Mexican pastries. Lunch Buffet included an exensive salad bar (Yes we ate the lettuce) sandwich fixings, soup and usually to-order tacos or tostados...the snack bar was open all afternoon with fruit, nachos, fries, batter-fried vegetables and often pizza....The dinner buffet was fairly heavy on the meat and seafood but usually there was made to order pasta, soup (my favorite was cream of pumpkin), steamed vegetables, rice or potatoes, beans, and fresh tortillas. We took our family to the Italian Restaurant one evening and enjoyed the ambience and food presentation, again we were able to order vegetarian food....the cheesecake with black berries was especially good. (To eat in the restaurants, dress code is a couple of notches above beach wear and men need to wear long pants and closed toed shoes...you also have to make reservations by phone between 9 and 2 and that can be frustrating as the line often rings busy.) We enjoyed the beach venders sharing their wares. ( A smile and "Not today, thank you." sent them easily on their way and after a couple of days unless you caught their eye they mostly didn't approach.) Just north of the resort is an artisan's mart with more than 50 little shops where you can browse and bargain...(we found these shop keepers much more likely to bargain than those on the Malacon.) US dollars seem welcome everywhere. (Take lots of low denomination bills...change will come back to you in pesos.) The advertising says "tips are included" but we happily left a couple of dollars each day for our maid...(leave the money on the bed or with a note or they won't be sure it is for them and will leave it.) This resort is popular with the Nationals and so you hear lots of Spanish spoken but all the signage is bilingual and all of the staff can understand English or direct you easily to someone who can. This resort is not a quiet, hideaway or a place for carousing spring-breakers but if you are looking for a safe, fun, family-oriented, multi-cultural experience this might be the vacation spot for you.

This was my first stay at Crown Paradise and I would recommend it. A great variety of food in the buffet. The service and staff were excellent. I talked to many people who have stayed there year after year. It was a quiet time to go so the night club was VERY quiet (sometimes only 2 people). I didn't find the night shows very entertaining but everything else I would recommend. For the price I paid for my package it was beyond my expectations. The rooms were very clean.

We have gone to crown paradise for 3 years and will never return. The food was so.....so at times gross. The drinks are disgusting as they use very cheap crap! What bar in mexico severs coffee liquor instead of kahlua??? Crown Pradise does! All the bottles are refilled with cheap booze. The room service is slow and you have a hard time getting what you want because no one speaks english! we stayed in the Marina building, our phone didn't work half the time, the rought iron on the balcony broke off and fell on the ground, there was black mould on the balcony, cockroaches dead in the suite, toilet in master was always running even after they fixed it. The beds are hard as rocks. Way too many problems to explain. Please do your self a favor and DO NOT go to this resort with your kids it is a waste of money and will be disapointing. we talked to many people and they had the same experince as us. By the way my son came home with pink eye doctor say's most likley from the kids pool !!!!!
