“Over and Above Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

My wife and I were in Puerto Vallarta last week, staying at the Villa Del Palmer resort. The resort was nice, maybe a little dated, but the staff there is truly first rate. I cannot think of any request that we made, that was not only fulfilled but usually exceeded. Of all of the staff, one person really stood out for us. This was a Bellhop named Julio.
This man was exceptional. He did the usual things for us like moving our luggage and getting us taxies. Additionally he gave us directions and recommended places to go. Again all standard stuff. One night however, he recommended a little Mexican restaurant named "Hucho's" for a light dinner. He had told us that the staff at the restaurant spoke English, however when we got there no one did. We managed to order and Julio was right, this place was outstanding. What set him apart from the rest of the staff is that he offered to escort us back to Hucho's, on his own time and using his car for transportation, so that he could translate the menu for us. We never took him up on his offer because we just ran out of time, but I'm sure if we ask him to do so he would have done so gladly. Exceptional service from an exceptional man. Thank you.

We stayed a week at this facility as part of a time-share scheme we were duped into last year in Cabo. The "junior suite" we were given was nothing like the junior suites we were shown during our sales pitch. The bathroom ceiling of our suite constantly dripped water, and finally started running out onto the floor. Because of the excess humidity, both of our cell phones stopped charging and eventually stopped working altogether. Overall, we were very disappointed in the facility, especially in light of the fact that we had to pay a "maintenance fee" of nearly $600.00 to stay there, above and beyond the cost of the time-share. I'm not sure exactly what was being maintained--certainly not our room. Like everyone there, were were hassled by time-share agents, and berated when we said we were not interested in anything beyond our 2-year trial.
The bright point of the experience was the staff. They are first-rate. I never interacted with anyone who was not patient, helpful, and understanding. The tour agents worked hard to set us up with some excellent hiking, birding, and golf.
The food was good, though not excellent. We did 3 days of all-inclusive, and were able to go anywhere in the facility to eat without question. However, we always had to go through the hassle of signing a ticket, and pay a tip for what is essentially self-service. We were also given access to the dinner shows, which would have been great if they had not been cancelled.
In my mind, this resort has the makings of a great get-away place. The facility is a little old and needs some refurbishing, but the staff and the job they do is sound. Management needs to stop pushing time shares so hard, and focus on making the experience great, so that people will come back without being roped into a time-share.

2nd time at this resort
Pros: very clean rooms, manicured grounds, friendly staff, entertaining theme shows, good service, delicious food. Palmar store, cyber cafe, laundrymat very convenient.
Cons: the Cucina Restaurant chairs are way to heavy to handle and it would be good for the greeters to back off pushing for the time shares once you say no

Ricardo, Joaquim, Augustin rapido waiters - amigo Jairo "jack of all trades" activities - amigo Antonio talented dancer

TIP: If you are looking for a more restful quiet vacation t book outside March break for any resort

when we arrived i was wowed. Our room was nice and clean, the pool and beach were spectacular. all though we didn't stay all inclusive we did indulge in happy hour which was two for one. the location of the resort was nice and close to the local grocery store, bars, the Malacon and delicious restaurants...we came on spring break march 22 - 28th which was a religious holiday for mexico, so the one down side i have to say about this resort at this time of year, is the annoying band that had no rhythm and was out of tune which completely ruined my relaxation on the beach. Other then that the hospitality was exceptional and would definitely come back again.

Room Tip: we stayed in building two which was nicely close to everything building four the balcony view looked...

My boyfriend, sister and I (all early 20s) spent 2 nights at the Villa del Palmar when visiting Puerto Vallarta to go whale-watching, kayaking, snorkelling etc. Our room was nicely furnished and had a small, well-equipped kitchenette which meant we were able to save some money and cook for ourselves one evening - a real bonus as the hotel restaurants were on the expensive side.

The pool was lovely although the beach was too crowded with sunbeds and people for our liking.

Staff were helpful and everyone we spoke to had good English.

The hotel was perfectly good and we were happy there for a couple of nights but I would not have wanted to stay there for my whole holiday. Nothing wrong with it - we're just not resort-y people.

Puerto Vallarta is a nice place and the hotel and surrounding area was safe and lots to see do and explore.

Most of the guests were a lot older than us though this could just be because we were there off-peak when most younger people/families are busy with work/school. I would recommend to anyone wanting a comfortable place to stay in PV for a night or two or people who want a beach resort holiday. There were a few kids around and the hotel seemed family friendly. Also suitable for older couples and groups of friends.

Room Tip: The rooms on either side of the central pool area get the sun at different times of day so something...

Upon arrival we were harassed by pushy time share sales reps who would not take no for an answer. We had to resort to being rude to get away from them. Once we got passed them in was pretty great. Our room was very nice and clean. The beach and pool were beautiful. The downsides to the beach was the locals trying to sell their goods, i spent hours saying thanks but no thanks. Also...sometimes bands came up on the beach and played music that was much too loud and took away from the tranquility of the beach. The fitness center was good, but the mats in the workout room were old and dirty and need to be replaced also, the lights in the gym jacuzzi need to be replaced...most were burned out. The breakfast buffet was great. The food at the pool was also good. The hotel was reasonably close to tourist destinations. I would definitely go back.

Villa del Palmar is a great place to stay. The food is excellent and the facility is beautiful. The staff really goes out of their way. I enjoyed the occasional animal shows during the day and nightly entertainment. My only complaint is that service in the sit down restaurants is extremely slow.

A portion of Villa del Palmar is a time share property. There's nothing wrong with owning a time share, but do your homework before making a purchase like that. Plenty of time share owners want to get rid of them. You can buy one much cheaper on the open market (Ebay, private parties, estate sales, realtors, etc.) than you can from the developer.
