“Poor Service, extreme pressure to hear a presentation, uphelpful staff, and outdated room.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Upon our arrival we were greeted with a great amount of pressure to hear a presentation. In order to receive a gold card, this was required. This card gives a discount at the resort restaurants and the only way we were to receive it would be to attend a sales presentation at the Flamingoes resort at Neuvo Vallarta which takes most of a day. We had done this during our last visit and were not interested--but that did not discourage the personnel from continuous pressure. Other problems with this resort were as follows: Internet price at their computer room was 70 pesos per hour or 40 pesos per half hour. Across the stree and also down the block it was 1.5 pesos per hour. When requesting downtown restaurant information, we were told the can knows and we don't have that information. (We take the bus). We found a gold card accidently and used it at the restaurants with no problem even though we were told it could not be activated unless we attended a presentation at Flamingoes. Overall rudness by the front area personnel was totally unacceptable!! We also did not have any choice of room even though we are premier members of the resort. We sent a letter to the headquarters and have never received a reply back. Also a sign posted at the resort stated that no food or drink would be allowed by the pools--only what would be ordered by the restaurant servers! (Difficult for families with young children and also the elderly)

Room Tip: It's nice to have a balcony on the north side with sun in the morning. Everyone has different n...

We booked a two-bedroom suite because my 80-year old mom was traveling with us. Booked it through Expedia which I won't use again. I think these properties give their least desirable rooms to booking agencies other than their own. At check-in we were informed we would be on the 4th floor in a building that had no elevator. I made sure the resort had elevators before we chose it because my mom doesn't do too many stairs. They ended up giving us two rooms on different floors. We made the best of it, but three days later they informed us that my mom HAD to move to a different room.

For the first five days they pushed us to go to a time share presentation at their other property, The Flamingos. They called on the phone or waited outside our door to ask again and again. We felt ourselves avoiding the hotel lobby so we wouldn't be approached.

On the positive side, we enjoyed our room. The beds and linens were comfy and the room immaculate. We didn't do the all-inclusive meal plan, but ate in all the restaurants and the food was very good. Staff friendly but a little tourist weary, and we are not demanding or loud.

Room Tip: We stayed in Bldg. B overlooking a quieter pool than the main pool, rooms 217 and 219. The balcony...

My husband and I went in January for 19 days. We stayed with my parents. This resort is beautiful and When we checked in we found that the sofa bed was a little hard and me having a bad hip. we went down and told them our situation and they right smartlyput a huge foam on it and everything was grand.we were greated beautifully when we arrived and julio is such a beautiful man and every day he went out of his way and sought out my Mom and me and asked if everything was ok. I cant say enough about the entertainment, bingo and the donkey racing at 5 oclock. We had buckets of fun when it was two for one. If you want for anything these lovely people bent over backwards for you. Anyway to those who made our holiday thank-you from the bottom of our hearts. Helen

So let me start by saying that the only reason this hotel gets 2 stars and not 1 is because prior to arriving there I emailed one of the gentlemen from the hotel group, asking if we could have a room away from the traffic (we've read reviews and that was mentioned there as a huge negative). So they put us up in a pretty good location, facing the ocean, away from the busy road. So that was much appreciated.
Upon our arrival everything seemed great, the gal that greeted us was sweet and nice, talked us into doing a timeshare tour (which Ive never done before, so what the heck).
Our hotel room was OK at best, it had a balcony, which was nice, the feeling in the hotel room was damp and smelled of mildew a bit, but we were happy non the less, just to be facing the ocean. The good thing about the room, it did have a kitchenette, and plates with utensils, and the housekeeping does a very nice job of keeping it clean and tidy.
So the nice stops there. After our horrific timeshare tour (which was at the Flamingo hotel on the other side of the town). And the reason it was horrific is because, right after I said "no Im not interested" the attitude completely changed, everyone became extremely rude, and pretty much pushed us out of the area! I mean, if I was even slightly considering this time share business, the treatment we received completely changed that.
After getting back to our hotel, things just got worse, the staff was extremely unhelpful, they literally rolled their eyes anytime we had a question. The Concierge service was terrible, booking any trips with them is a joke, they have absolutely zero idea about what the tours include(and are VERY pushy). BTW-you can not use cash at any of their restaurants, just a warning. They advertize as a "kid-friendly" place, they only kid friendly part is that they "allow" the kids there, there are zero amenities for the children. Not even a reasonably shallow area for the kids to play in at the pool. There is a slide for the older kids (like 7 and up). If you have a toddler-you are out of luck.
Staff acts like they are doing you a favor by talking to you. I cant tell you how many times we had to go to the front desk for minor little things, and spent at least a half hour there EACH time. from our room keys not working after a few days, to us not being able to charge our beverages to the hotel room (after we already have done it a few times), to us trying to get our deposit back for the timeshare tour (we got send to 3 different places to get it back, with attitude at every stop)
We found out that they are going to completely rebuild this hotel, its the oldest property that the company owns, so that should give you an idea of the shape that place is in. No it doesnt have that "old character" just the old smell, and terrible staff. I've never been treated like that, they do not care for return business. Do yourself and favor and stay somewhere else.
and PS, the food is overpriced and is not very tasty.

Stayed at this hotel one week in Nov-room was ok,,a bit dated, but ok! you could not buy anything with cash! everything credit card, then when you check in your invited to the sister hotel, flamingo for breakfast, that is when you get a tour of the hotel and taken to a room for the hard sell! time share! they offer you gifts for your time, but that is time you can not get back! they were mad, that we did not buy in to there hard sell,we just wanted out! so we could enjoy our vacation, The time share people have a stand outside of the villa so they push&push, even when you tell them!been there done that! We go on vacation to get away from it all and that was just pain full. Would not stay at the villa again, the location is good, rooms clean, beds good, staff un willing to be helpfull with out a credit card! cash not good enough.Would never stay at the flamingo.

We had a wonderful time. Food is very good at el patron. resort is old, but maintainvery well. staff is very pleasant. housekeeping senoritas did a a-1 job every day of cleaning the room. time share talk pressure was once again high, but we refused the talk.

Room Tip: just make sure you are not near the roof of the el patron restaurant, cooling units are very noisy.

Quiet, clean place suitable for older adults of retirement age. Tasteful, beautiful buildings and average rooms. 1 heated pool, and 1 unheated, no swim-up bar, 1 hot tub. very clean buildings, grounds, and rooms. Cleaning maintenance, and laundry staff were excellent.

Very few activities for children or young adults. Small beach but you can walk along the frontage of other resorts for about 1/2 mile either direction, inundated with beach vendors either way.
Expensive all-inclusive, not worth it as there is only 1 buffet and the food/drinks are substandard with limited choices. Better deals downtown even with the transportation costs & better food too! A la carte onsite restaurant El Patron has good food/service for lunch/dinner but a bit pricey.
We couldn't use the ancient blender in our room even after we had asked for a new one. A service person replaced the blades which worked when empty, but not even a small amount of food could be processed. There was no hot water at the kitchen sink for our entire stay of 2 weeks, & the air conditioner was very noisy. All these problems were promptly reported & attended to, but none were resolved to our satisfaction.
Time share people everywhere! LOTS of pressure by most staff to go to their presentation at the Flamingos-new sister property at Nuevo Vallarta.
We would not stay there again.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view.
