“I love Villa del Palmar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

My friend and I stayed at the Villa del Palmar Vallarta in April of 2012. We had a wonderful time. The staff was wonderful, the rooms were kept spotless. The grounds are beautiful. Had fun swimming and lounging around the pools. All the food we had was very good! We enjoyed time at the spa on 2 different days and it was wonderful!! I had the hot rocks therapy massage and it was so wonderful I cannot even describe it!! Alan our bell boy was most helpful and friendly, and always with a smile on his face!! He was a great asset for us as we speak very little Spanish and he speaks very good English. I hear he has been promoted to working at the front desk! How wonderful. He is a great guy! Roberta was our housekeeper and she kept our room beautiful and added special little surprises everyday. Our stay was wonderful. I am planning my next trip back now. As far as vendors on the beach, it is fine, they have it roped off so they are not allowed to bother you unless you show an interest. Also we had no problem what so ever related to timeshare sales. We used the bus many times while we were there. Stops right out front. Easy to get to the downtown, or to Walmart or the Marina. Was a wonderful trip.....and for all who wonder, we felt perfectly safe on our trip there. Did not need to worry at all. Was a great time.

The activities staff mentioned above and Erika and other activities staff at the Villa del Palmar love their jobs, are excellent at what they do and are always friendly and happy. There is always something to do from water aerobics to beach volley ball, water volley ball, dance lessons, donkey races and bingo. Each of the staff has a pleasant personality and is always happy to get people involved. Many of them are involved on the stage in the evening festivities, which are very well done. It was a pleasure to participate in the events they scheduled.

I have stayed at this resort 2 times in a 3 year period. I am also a timeshare owner, but I purchased my unit at the Nuevo Vallarta location.

This unit is the oldest resort of all of the Villa Group properties, so of course there are going to be some issues with the property decor and facilities. However, there is no reason to feel apprehensive about booking here because the resort will find a room for you that is adequate.

I have stayed in a 2 bedroom unit as well as a studio apartment. Both units were adequate and I had no major complaints about my stay. The units were not lavish, however they were comfortable. If there is a problem with your room, then simply tell the front desk.

The beverage service was very good and the resort has all of the major labels. Be nice to the bar staff and they will take really good care of you!. I only ate the the italiam restaurant once and it was really good. Also the Mexican Fiesta theme night is the best one (IMHO). The entertainers were great and food was excellent. It was my birthday so they gave me a really nice gift. Thanks!

There is a nice fitness center, if you want to get a workout in, and you can also get a nice massage on the beach. This was a nice touch especially since it was a sunset massage. The spa is not top notch so if you can get the beachside massage go for it.

The pool was nice and there was not a problem getting a chair at the pool. The whale slide was so much fun even if you are an adult! We spent so many hours at the pool making friends. The people who stay here are good down to earth people, who value their vacation dollars.

I am not crazy about the beach...although the vendors are not allowed to approach you in certain areas, it is just to much activity for me. I like to enjoy the beach without having to shoo people away all the time. The water isn't the prettiest either, but felt okay.

The resort is located in a great zone and you can walk everywhere. The bus will pick you up and take you to the Malecon or to Walmart to go shopping. Cabs are not that expensive but be sure not to let them rip you off.

The entertainment staff will take you out at night for a bar crawl. This is a safe and secure way to party in PV. The resort itself is not a party resort so it gets quiet about 10 p.m. every night. The entertainment people are more than willing to make sure that you have plenty to do if you are a night owl.

To end this review, please understand that there are picky people and there are easy going people. Picky people should not stay here because this is an older resort and it isnt getting the financial backing that the newer properties are. However, the resort is safe, comfortable, and can be a good place to stay during your vacation.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want!

The overall rating reflects my evaluation of the resort, including restaurants, pools and beach. This is an older time share resort, generally well maintained, although our unit was definitely due for an updating. Two issues detracted from our overall enjoyment. First, wi-fi service was an extra charge, and was excruciatingly slow, comparable to dial-up service in speed, at a charge of $50 for the week. More significant was the time share hard sell. At check-in we were offered some gifts if we would visit their new resort at Flamingos. The gifts were a bottle of tequila and a jungle tour. We were transported to the resort and given lunch and a tour. The location and units are beautiful, but it is in a very isolated area. We were then brought to an office to meet with a salesman. It was a very hard sell, an experience like buying a car. Each time we said that we were not interested in buying, the salesman tried a different approach. Finally, we were released and went back to our own resort. Next day we boarded the bus for the jungle trip. It was clear that there were going to be several stops at stores and a restaurant that probably pay a fee to the tour company. The first stop was at a jeweler in dowtown Puerto Vallarta, a scheduled 25 minute stop. Since it was clear that the jungle tour was a trap to get tourists into various stores, we bailed at that point.

Room Tip: If you want an ocean view, be sure to specify that. Rooms in the older, Villa Del Mar, part don'...

we moved to this resort after spending a week in nuevo vallarta. I preferred the latter location because of the resort we stayed at. This resort is older and it shows in the rooms/decor. It still is a very comfortable place with a very knowledgeable staff. the facilities are all there. the pool is nice as is the beach area. The main restaurant is a very comfortable layout and we found the food was tasty, well prepared and moderately priced. Witnessing the staff put together the special events you get the impression they know what they are doing and they do it extremely well. The central location was very attractive-easy to get to downtown and everything readily available within a short distance. The big negative is the obvious focus of the resort being to sell more timeshares. The moment you arrive this begins - fortunately the person who was assigned to us understood when we flatly refused the "free" offers and did not pressure us further. I would consider returning to this location.

....but watch out for the time share presentation! This is a very competent, comfortable hotel, with decent amenities and a nice staff. We were on an all inclusive package and the food and drinks were good, too. Could have used slightly better maintenance - the elevator was broken the whole time we were there and one of the jacuzzis was drained.

It's mostly convenient, but if you like to swim in the ocean, you have to walk quite a way down the beach to a safer area...the surf right in front of the hotel is dangerous and we saw two different people get knocked down, sucked under and held down. They both got out, but it's a terrible place to swim, which kind of stinks.

The horrible part was the obligatory time share presentation we went through. The 90 minutes they quoted turned into four hours! And they passed us off to 4 different sales people during the process, including the last woman who tried to get us to go to another property! Ack! We understood that we had to go, but we were so irritated by the time we left.

We stayed at Villa del Palmar from May 13-18 2012. We are already timeshare owners (having purchased in Cabo). This was our first time to PV. We knew when we booked that this was the oldest resort for our timeshare ownership. We didnt expect the same level of decor/updating that the Cabo resort has (del Arco) - but the resort was very clean (which we do expect) and had the amenities we like (pool, room service, buffet breakfast). We booked about 2 months in advance no problem. We knew we wanted to be closer to downtown than the PN location. We are not all-inclusive types - we enjoy eating out at local restaurants - but we do have breakfast a couple of times at the resort.

We also decided to elope while we were there - thus we chose PV rather than Cabo since there is no waiting period upon arrival in Mexico prior to the ceremony.

The biggest plus was the wedding ceremony coordination - we started chatting with Rebeca who then passed us to Esman to finalize the arrangements. They did make it very easy. I was sent photos of the ceremony site (on the jetty) and several bouquets to chose from. They also coordinated setting us up with Patricia who handled the legal paperwork (and was our witness) and Pierre who was the hired photographer. All was done via email. We also opted to have a private and romantic dinner post ceremony at the site - so we were sent menus to chose from and everythign was perfect. We found the price to be very reasonable. The food presentation was AMAZING! Not the typical fare you find day to day at the resort.

The downside was the presentation that we had to attend in order to get our discount card. We are already owners and were being pressured into upgrading from the studio we purchased (that suits our needs just fine) to a 1 bedroom. When the "hard sell" guy was brought to our table - he immediately insulted us by questionning why we hadnt refinanced our timeshare financing - essentially indicating that we were stupid for doing so. When I explained to him that I work in mortgage and it was in our best interest to keep the financing off of our US credit reports - he seemed to just pass it off. We are already owners - we would just like to be left alone. If we want to upgrade - we know where to find you.

All in all - we will be back next year. We didnt bring the 4 year old with us this trip and we will have an 9 month old this time next year and the resort and location is great when you have kids. The beach is kept nice and the kids pool is just perfect. Do bring your own pool floaties though - this resort doesnt have them aside from pool noodles like the resorts in Cabo do (hint hint to have them please).

Thanks.
