Do I recommend this resort? I most certainly do!
Our family of 7 have visited the Friendly resort every year since 2008 and each and every time we love it more! This will be our 6th visit coming up and we are so excited to get back!
What sets this resort from others we have visited is quite simply the kind and beyond amazing people who work in every department of this resort. They do not just do something nice in hopes of being tipped as I have experienced at all other resorts we have visited, they are truly, genuinely wonderful people! We tip graciously because they do not expect it or feel they deserve it....they give great service because they want to and for this we will gladly give them tips as gratitude.
The hotel is in an excellent location and set on gorgeous beach which has the most incredible sunsets and view of downtown Puerto Vallarta. It is also not directly on the busy front street which makes it quiet from street traffic noise. There is part of another resort between Friendly and the street which is perfect because you don't feel like you are right in the city. Just a quick walk down the cobblestone lane to the street and you can catch a local bus to downtown for approx $0.60 cents
I cannot see where any of the rooms would be in a "bad location" as they all have incredible views. There are no rooms facing towards the back (street) they all face out toward the Bay of Banderas either straight on or on an angle.
The room which we stayed in had 2 beds, nightstand, large dresser, loveseat, comfy chair, little coffee table, desk and chair. The nice sized balcony has 2 chairs and small table.
There is an in room safe located in the spacious closet which is nice to lock up any valuables.
The resort has a nice sized pool (not overly deep but I would guess 4 feet--total guess) with a small "kiddie pool". There are 2 hot tubs and a beautiful infinity pool .
You are never without a beverage while laying on the beach, lounging at the pool, soaking in the hot tubs or infinity pools as the staff is incredible!
During our last one week March/12 visit there were 2 beach supper/parties with live entertainment--one time it was a live band and the next it was staff performing, good times and fun! Every other night they had something in the huge lobby area and the one night it was circus type performers--incredible!
Always can be kept busy with the activities crew--extremely nice bunch of people and loads of fun....activities include: water volleyball, water aerobics, beach volleyball, kayaking and more! They offer cooking classes, bracelet making, spanish and dance lessons on the beach.
The beach is one of the nicest and cleanest on the bay and there are plenty of chairs plus Abraham who works the beach bringing, chairs, tables and umbrellas is an absolute treasure to the resort! There is a roped off area and shade for those who do not want to be bothered with those selling on the beach. We always sit outside the ropes and the people selling are not overly pushy and we have met may great people over the years. They have also put in a kids play area on the beach which is well shaded and if you have small children is a nice addition.
Food has always been excellent. The staff in the restaurants are super!
Is the resort safe? There has never been any, not even the slightest incident while we were there and they have staff on beach and at entrance carefully watching to make sure all is good.
The resort is not huge and sprawling so locating family/friends is not a huge task. I can always go stand on my balcony and see the entire pool area and some of the beach and wave down to someone we know or is part of the family.
The people who stay at this resort are mainly ages 35-40 and up and they have huge, huge numbers of repeat clientele. This past time we were visited there was a wedding group of "20-something" year olds who were rude, loud and felt they had full run of the resort and thought they were the top priortiy. This does not reflect at all on the resort but the people who visit who feel they are obligated and have the right to infringe on others enjoying their holidays.
Anyone who has not been to Puerto Vallarta has no idea what they are missing! We go because we feel safe and it is without a doubt the most beautiful spot with great people we know. The humpback whales come into the bay right in front of the resort with their babies during approx December-early March and if lucky enough, you can watch them breach out of the water.
I would recommend the Friendly Vallarta resort to absolutely anyone wanting to truly enjoy Mexico with the happiness, warmth and friendliness of its people!
