“Excellent Experience!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2005

We are a couple in our twenties who just returned from Club Embarcadero Pacifico (Feb 16-23) and we had an overall wonderful experience of the hotel! We were a bit worried going into this trip since this hotel has received mixed reviews, but we were so happy with the Embarcadero that we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice 3-4 star resort.

Hotel Grounds/Location:

The landscaping at this hotel is amazing. The pool areas, lobby and rooms are all very well kept and always clean. There are four pools in total: two are on the marina side and one is dedicated to activities which was really nice because the larger pool was always free for people who just wanted to swim or for children to play. The larger pool has a swim up bar, lounge chairs in the pool (very cool) a waterfall and an ankle-deep section which is perfect for small children. On the beach side (the Pacifico) there are two more pools, one with a swim-up bar. The beach on the Pacifico side is small but has a very nice relaxing atmosphere. There are two levels to the beach, one near the pool where the lounge chairs are set up and then if you go down the stairs you can get to the water. There are kayaks available to use and parasailing next door at the Melia. The beach vendors are allowed on the lower section of beach, so if you prefer not to be bothered you can always stay on the upper section on the hotel grounds. In general, if you are looking for a long white sand beach, Puerto Vallarta is not the place to go. Even in the downtown hotel zone the beaches are sectioned off by rock piles and they are quite small compared to other beaches in Mexico and the Caribbean.

Hotel Room:

We had one of the most basic hotel rooms that the Embarcadero offers (King size bed in a basic room with no balcony) but we thought that it was very nice. The maid did an excellent job always keeping the room very clean and well-stocked with extra towels (we did leave her a small tip every day). Our room was on the fifth floor and it overlooked the pool on the marina. It was never noisy and I had one of the greatest sleeps I have ever had there. I suppose the beds are firm for some peoples’ taste but it was fine for us. There is a safety deposit box in every room but you have to pay for the lock ($2 per day). I think that you also have to pay for a remote for the TV if you wanted one but we didn’t bother.

Food:

Personally I thought the food was good and there was always a wide variety of things to choose from although there were many repeats on the menu every day. Breakfast was always served at the main buffet by the marina which included everything you could possibly want (coffee, eggs, ham, bacon, French toast, pancakes, 6 different kinds of cereal, pastries and fresh fruit). Our one little complaint was that the juices were not fresh squeezed, but that wasn’t a big deal. There are two places where you can eat lunch- at the buffet by the marina or at the snack bar at the Pacifico. We ate for the most part at the snack bar since the lunch buffet was often similar to some of the food offered at dinner. The snack bar was great because you could get pizza, nachos, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, sausage, steak, fruit and dessert. There are two dinner locations which alternate. For two nights (Wednesday and Thursday) they served dinner at the enclosed buffet on the second floor which is not as nice in terms of atmosphere but it was fine because for the other 5 days dinner was served at the buffet on the marina which is really beautiful at night. The a la Carte restaurant (you are allowed one per week) was AMAZING! You get two appetizers, an entrée, dessert and drinks included. If you want an expensive entrée (lobster or prime rib) you can pay $10. We got one entrée from the regular menu and one lobster which was well worth the $10!!

Entertainment:

We only saw bits and pieces of the shows that the hotel staff put on every night and I have to say that they looked pretty cheesy. I guess if I were to have one complaint about this hotel it would be that they did not provide a simple band for dancing which would be nice for couples, but instead they tried to stage variety shows. That being said, the shows would probably be very entertaining for children (like the Beauty and the Beast night). As well, once the show ends around 10-10:30 the staff provides a shuttle service to nearby bars and clubs for a small fee if people want to continue to party.

Things to do in Puerto Vallarta:

There are several tours you can take which sounded really nice although we enjoyed exploring things on our own and we took three trips into downtown Puerto Vallarta. The bus stop is right outside of the hotel lobby and you can take it into the downtown for 40 pesos (about 40 cents). Although the Marina area is beautiful the real city is downtown and there is definitely a lot to see. I would recommend taking a walk on the boardwalk and checking out the Flea Market if you enjoy shopping. This was my third trip to Puerto Vallarta and I have previously stayed in the main hotel area but I have to say that I enjoyed my stay in the Marina area the most since it is more peaceful and relaxing at the Marina and you can choose when you want to go into town because it is only a short 10 minute bus ride away. While at the Embarcadero make sure you check out the famous light house just up the street and all of the little shops and restaurants that are open in the evenings there!

Overall we had an excellent vacation at the Embarcadero Pacifico and we would highly recommend this hotel as it is great value for the money and it has something for everyone. If you have any questions for us, just e-mail us...

My wife and I spent two weeks, Feb 4-18/05 in the non all inclusive villas on the ocean side. this is the third time in the villas, and the tenth time in P.V. We moved three times before getting an acceptable villa. The first one lacked a/c, fans were noisy. Second one had no a.c, and was tight underneath the mechanical room of the adjacent Mayan Palace. Needless to say, very noisy. Electric stove gave a 110 volt shock if you tried to use it! Third villa was o.k. but generally needs t.l.c., renovations, etc. If you wanted a pool side chair, you had to be there by 06:00 to guarantee a spot. Saw a party of five reserve chairs with towels, then hop on a day cruise boat to Mismaloya for the day. Talk about selfish people. Almost half the pool lounge chairs were in some sort of disrepair. Perhaps they could teach somebody the fundamentals of repair. Like the security guys, who seemed to be intent on stopping all those people from the surrounding 5 star resorts from sneaking in to use our pool. It's time for the management to pull up their socks, or people will stop coming . The HoJo Nautilus down the street were practically begging tourists to come into their facility. Good luck. If you cannot provide a service, customers will take their money, (and stories) elsewhere. This was our last time to this complex.

Just got back from Club Embarcadero on Friday, Feb 18th. Stayed there for one week (Feb 11-18th) with my boyfriend, both of us are in our 20's. We had a very good vacation with no significant problems with the hotel. With the price we payed it was definitly beyond our expectations and there is no reason to complain about this hotel unless you are use to 5 star american style accomondations.
The best part about this hotel is the grounds. The landscaping and gardening is immaculate, beautiful flowers, near flawlessely trimmed grass, landscaped paths and spotless grounds. The pools were awesome. The pools at the main hotel are very large, situated right by the marina, with one of them flowing off the edge to give it an endless feel. There were rock designs with waterfalls flowing between the two pools, a swim-up bar that was open all afternoon and submerged lounges in the pool. Plenty of lounge chairs, just be patient with those that save chairs by placing their towels on them. If you want more pool loungers and more pools just cross the street (a 2min walk) to the rest of the hotel. This part of the hotel is on the ocean with lounges and umbrellas on the sand overlooking the ocean, and 3 more pools all in different designs.
The service is fantastic with pleasant and polite mexican ladies serving you at your lounger all day long whatever you want to drink. They will be back asking you if you want a refill before your glass is 3/4 empty.
As far as the hotel rooms, they were very moderate but who spends that much time in your room anyways. I think all the rooms are different, we had probably had the most standard room and i still didnt have a problem. We had a King size bed, which was very hard, but i guess all beds are hard in mexico. We didnt have a balcony, but i guess half of the rooms do and half dont. We had no problems with the plumbing, and the air conditioner wasnt the most powerful but the ceiling fan was definitly efficient enough to keep you cool all the time. There was no remote for the tv, but i guess thats normal enough too in a 3 star mexican hotel. The maid service was great, we left a small tip every day and the room was always spotless and fresh towels supplied every day.
The buffet food was not that great but you learn where and when to eat. For breakfast there is a buffet, which is not that great, but if you go to the omelette chef and get an omelette personally made its really good, or have the fresh fruit or a huge choice of cereals. For lunch, theres a buffet down by the pool , but its not that great, its much better to go to the hotel across the street and you can have burgers, hotdogs, sausages, steaks and all that kind of stuff from a grill chef at the ocean cafe. Dinner is on the 2nd floor in a dining hall, buffet style, the food has a different theme every night, so the food quality changes depending on the theme, one night there was ribs which was tasty, another night was italian with pastas and pizza which was good. We went out to eat for dinner three times, i recommend doing that cuz food is CHEAP in PV and u can get some excellent food at restaurants (try La Dolce Vita on the Boardwalk or Pepe's Tacos downtown). As well you get to eat at the VERY nice a la carte restaurant on the street corner once, can you believe i had a T-Bone Steak for dinner?? very nice.
The staff at the hotel were super friendly and nice. The activites people worked so tiredlessy from dawn to late nights that i was amazed. They is a big activites board and a tent by the upper pool where all the activites are held. There is acitivties alllll day long, stuff like step aroebics, tequila volleyball, water aerobics, bingo, anything you would want. And every night at 10:30pm you can meet in the lobby to go as a group to a nightclub. We went out twice and they payed our cab fare, took us into the club VIP and got us tables and discounted cover charges. It was awesome. Definitly go to the foam party at Collage on Tuesday Night, dancing in the foam and an open bar is not to be missed,...and well the wet t-shirt contest is VERY x-rated, not for everyone. Also Senor Frogs on Saturday night is a huge party and u get to drink out of this HUGE trumpet shaped cups that will get you loaded in no time. Also at 8:30pm EVERY night the entertainment staff puts on a very professional 1hr to 1hr 30min show in the 3rd floor open air theatre. The shows change every night with different themes, theres costumes, dancing, stunts, singing, and very well down for a bunch of amateurs. I cant believe how hard these entertainment people work ALL DAY LONG.
Transportation from the hotel is great, either get the bellboy to whistle in a taxi for about 60 pesos to downtown, or take the bus right outside the hotel for 4 pesos. VERY easy to take the bus and about 10mins to downtown. The hotel is located right on the Marina so you get to see gorgeous boats go by and as well the Marina has its own boardwalk all around the marina, with tons of restaurants and shops only a few minutes walk away.
For those that complained about this hotel I really dont understand, it was a great value and a great mexican experience. If you want mints on ur pillows and 5 star dinners every night go somewhere else. A beyond our expectations 3 star hotel with an amazing staff.

Just got back from the Club Embarcadero. This is our third trip to Mexico having stayed previously at the Melia Vallarta and the Wyndham Viva Maya in Playa Del Carmen. So how was this place? Here are the goods...

1. The price is right. We paid less for the Embarcadero than we did in previous trips. In other words, if you're willing to pay less, than remember, you get what you paid for.

2. The rooms are OK...though I would have to say that the toilets were running in our place and the plumbing overall wasn't great.

3. The food was OK for breakfast and lunch. Dinner was not as good and unlike breakfast and lunch which were at the Marina, dinner was literally in a converted parkade (seriously) with plastic chairs and large communal tables. The food was not great and wasn't thrilled about the lineup for dinner (long ones).

4. The pools are great...lots of them. Five in total - big and small.

5. The service from the waiters, bartenders, cleaning lady, etc. was excellent. Just as good if not better than the places I visited the last two years.

6. The place was not too huge or too crowded, which made it a nice place to vacation if you have a family like us.

In my opinion, the Embarcadero could be better if some of the rough edges were fixed (plumbing issues, better food, real dining area for dinner).

Here is what I would suggest about the Embarcadero. If you get a good deal price-wise and you are not a picky person (e.g. you realize up front that you are not staying at a five-star hotel) and are willing to bring some extra cash to go out for dinner a few times (to avoid having dinner at the Embarcadero) then I would suggest giving this place a shot. One final thing: don't forget to tip the staff. They work hard, always have a smile on their faces, and they are one of the biggest assets to this place.

I just got back from a week AI here, the weather was perfect everyday and I found the hotel to be very clean, the employees very very friendly and always encouraging you to join in the many activities (water volleyball, aerobics, water polo, dancing lessons, bingo....) plus if you want to into town at night they arrange a bus to a different club every night. They have a sister resort across the road which is way nicer to sunbathe at because it has a nice breeze from the ocean plus the beach is there!! The food is okay, you don't have to worry about going hungry!! Honestly, I think if you want a nice relaxing, not too lively, friendly, good value vacation, this is the place to go. I think all the people who didn't like it here are the type to find something wrong with most anything or else used to luxury five star places.
