What a beautiful hidden treasure! Majahuitas feels like a lost tropical island, unscathed and nurtured by its few lucky residents. It is maybe an hour south of Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Ocean, only accessible by boat! My husband and I went for a 2-year wedding anniversary trip just last week(June 1-5, 2004), and would love to go back sometime in the future.
The individual casitas are charming and amazing, obviously built with much love by hand. Ours was the Jungle House--we highly reccomend it!! The view of the ocean was spectacular. We were able to see a couple of the others too, and they are all quite impressive, each with their own charm.
The food is delicious... my favorite was seared snapper one night, and the yummiest caesar salad I've ever had for an appetizer another night! Really tasty shrimp dishes at various times too. We never went hungry... always more than enough food. Fransisco was in charge while we were there... he was awesome! The chefs were extremely talented, and the whole crew just made our experience delightful.
The girls that clean the casitas and straighten the beds surprised us one afternoon with our bed decorated with hibiscus flowers and little red flower petals designing our initials. They were so dear and sweet!
We watched 2 manta rays playing in the ocean every morning while we were there... they were looking for fish, but are apparently harmless to people. What a show though! The snorkeling is good, and the boat rides are exhilirating! Hiking through the jungle makes for a great adventure, and the two labradors on the beach will welcome you with a friendly bark--Coco and Sandy. We took a day trip to Yelapa, and we highly reccomend that too... what a fun day.
Majahuitas is what you make of it... it is perfect for total relaxation and lazing around all afternoon, or if you would rather, you can make it an adventure. Regardless, it is getting away from the everyday life you lead with tv and the phone ringing all the time. It is ideal for couples of course, but I would like to bring a group of friends back sometime, or even a family one day. Kids would have a blast on the beach! There were some jellyfish in the water when we first arrived, but it was due to the rains they had recently had, and they were gone the rest of the week. The ocean views are unforgettable. It does get humid, but that was no problem for us at all... the breezes are enough to cool you off... plus a dip in the water. And brush up on your ping pong skills... there's a table behind the main house where you can play! They have tons of books for a good week's read, and all kinds of board games (even Battleship!) for entertainment if you want it. It is a different way of life that we should all be lucky enough to experience. Hope you get a chance to go sometime! We will be back!!
