“Great stay, Excellent Service, Nice View to the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

The staff is great they are super friendly and the level of service is superb.
The room and installations are good, what you expect from a 4 star hotel.
The pool is good, It might need some maintenance, but nothing to decrease my rating.
The overall experience is great.

We visited Puerto Vallarta with a reservation to stay at a different resort. Thankfully, our plans didn't work out and we stayed at Casa Magna. What an amazing property with friendly staff that makes you feel welcome. Our room was beautiful, with a view of the mountains and the bay. We were close to the marina, where you can access great restaurants that are less expensive than the offerings in the hotel. (Though the food was amazing, particularly the Japanese restaurant.) We don't usually pamper ourselves this much when we travel, but next time we decide to, we will definitely book at Casa Magna in PV.

Best things about the hotel:

It's beautiful and in a good location
The spa is so nice (so is the gym)
The staff is amazing from the front desk, to the hotel scuba diving instructor to the concierge to the gentlemen in the car park
Seriously good Japanese restaurant! I know in PV people want to go Mexican, but the Japanese place here is not to be missed
Close to less expensive options for breakfast
Took us at the last minute, gave us a great rate, 4th night was free
Booked tours for us (concierge) as well as helped us find our way off the beaten path

Bummers:

The beach is somewhat unimpressive, but not the backdrop
Really, that is the only bummer. Everything else was great!

we really enjoyed our stay here, the food was great and the staff super.
close to marina with lots of shops.
Don't forget to try the no name café in the marina
The light house is a great place to have a drink as well.

Room Tip: something close to beach

This hotel delivered so above my expectations for the cost I seriously felt as though I was at a 5 star resort. The staff is so wonderful and friendly and the ground are breathtaking, the tropical rainforest feel of the resort is just amazing. The spa is a must, newly renovated and huge. The food at the poolside Seafood restaurant Las Casitas was wonderful! As well as the chef and staff. It was my birthday and everyone went above and beyond to help me celebrate. The room was large and beds were comfortable, I definitely say pay for the ocean view room. The time on the patio, looking at the ocean and mountains drinking wine was priceless. The pool is huge, so we never felt like kids were invading our space, the infinity pool looks right onto the ocean only about 50 feet away, the ocean provided a perfect cooling breeze so entire days by the pool in July were not problem! The vendors in PV are very friendly and not aggressive which was nice. We also loved the swim up bar. Brunch at La Estancia is absolutely amazing! So many options and great authentic Mexican cuisine. We cannot wait to return!

Room Tip: Ocean rooms are worth the money for the amazing view and time on your patio!!

Just got back from the Marriott Casa Magna in Puerta Vallarta. It is just what you would expect if you stay at Marriotts. I have a few beefs with them though. It would be nice to include breakfast with the room or at least in room coffee. Marriott is nice, but they charge for everything, including coffee. As many people have pointed out, they have a lovely breakfast buffet. It is not worth $23 per person. Nobody eats that much breakfast. You can get a full breakfast for $5.00 at Victor's in the Marina and watch the boats.
The spa is fantastic. Treat yourself to a massage. It is heaven.
The concierge, Adrienne, was the best. He will help you find anything and is super accommodating. He even found out how we could take our fish home and made arrangements to freeze it in the hotel restaurant.
The pool is great, but the bay is kind of dirty. That is everywhere though. I think it is the time of year.
Finally, beware of the hard sell time share folks. The ladies near the elevators are not just there to give away stuff and help you with your vacation. They are there to get you to sign up for the pitch. It is not 40 minutes, but about 2 hours. They give you breakfast, but the pitch starts after breakfast. We resisted at first and she threw in a free massage. If you have 2 hours to spare, get your freebies, but they will try hard to get you to buy.

Enjoyable stay for family. Upon arrival, an upgrade to a king size room with lovely view of the ocean. The staff was always accommodating and professional. Felt very safe at this hotel, especially travelling with 2 teens and a tween. Pool is huge. Great for laps or hanging around! Enjoyed the water aerobics, too. Exercise room was impressive with attached yoga room - great for stretching. Buffet breakfast is impressive, however, would only recommend if you are not watching your diet. Too much food to choose from. Enjoyed Las Casitas restaurant. Hotel is walking distance from marina with many choices of restaurants. A must to see is the Turtle Release! Hopefully, you won't miss it during your stay. A special thanks to Jorge and Carlos in activities. These guys are great! Also, thank you to Josefina in housekeeping.

Room Tip: High floor - better view

This is our 6th time staying at this Marriott location, and won't be our last.
We were personally met in the lobby by Simon Coulson, the Chief Concierge and given an upgrade to a room with a partial ocen view and private balcony.
Room service was extremely prompt and all the staff seemed so willing to go the extra mile to meet our needs. The bed was just wonderful, and the room air conditioning was set just right at 72f throughout our visit.

Morning 1: In advance of our stay, we had requested a 1/2 pot of coffee to be delivered to our room at 7.30am. We received a full pot of coffee, for the full pot price. We ate breakfast at Las Casitas on the beach (see separate review). The buffet at La Estancia is really good, but eating at Las Casitas is just fine & met our needs. Mauricio was the best server by far!

Morning 2: We changed our room service request to receive the coffee at 8am, and a half pot of coffee. This morning, we received the coffee at 7.30am, and correctly with the 1/2 pot! Breakfast at Las Casitas again. Later in the day we ate at La Estancia (see separate review), with Mexican classical music playing, creating a relaxing end to the day.

Morning 3: Good news! Our 1/2 pot of coffee was delivered at 8am along with the much appreciated compact US news printed newssheet.

Morning 4: Oh.... room service delivered that full pot of coffee at 7.30am, and no US newssheet.
My idea of relaxtion on vacation is to sit on my CasaMagna Marriott balcony, drinking coffee, and looking out across the pool area, to the sweep of Banderas Bay with downtown Puerto Vallarta beyond. We can seec all of the sea traffic including cruise ships moving in and out of the habor and marina (note: there is no commercial traffic in PV).

Ok, so sometimes when we've stayed here in the past there has been a convention going on simultaneously resulting in 'business' guests staying in the hotel. This time there were no such business guests, mostly families. Bad behavior included people seen eating while IN the pool, kids running along the swim-up bar and one person washing toys used on the sandy beach, in the pool. One would hope the staff would prevent the kids from running along the swim-up bar as a fall could result in a real emergency, etc.
We would have liked to have known when the baby turtle release was going to happen on which days.

We are already talking about returning before too long.....

Dear guest,

Please let me express my gratitude to you for sharing such nice comments regarding your latest stay with us, I am very happy to hear that you really enjoy your vacation and that our hotel is like a second home for you. I will extend your congratulations to Simon and Mauricio for their great job.

Regarding the inconveniences you experienced with our room service and while in the pool, please accept my apologies, I have brought this matter to the attention of our Food and Beverage Director as well as the responsible of our Pool area in order for them to participate in further training with their staff.

I am happy to know you are interested in our turtle release program and I am very sorry to hear you were not able to release a baby turtle; part of this program involves releasing the baby turtles on the same day they were born and even though we are able to provide with an approximate date for they to be born, this date may vary for up to 10 days.

We are looking forward to seeing you here again and in the meantime please feel free to contact me if you need additional feedback or assistance, you can contact me at mhrs.pvrmx.dor@marriotthotels.com I will be happy to assist you.
