“Puerto Vallarta is NOT Cancun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

What makes Puerto Vallarta a unique destination in Mexico is its wonderful mix of local culture with tourists and expats. It's not like Cancun that is heavily oriented to tourists. Puerto Vallarta maintains its local culture, while greeting tourists/expats with warmth and charm. This is most evident in the Centro district of Puerto Vallarta, where locals/tourists intersect. Local residents go about their daily business and welcome tourists as they walk their streets, shop at their shops and eat at their restaurants. Warm, friendly, welcoming...the people of Puerto Vallarta are what make this city what it is, and there is no place better to experience this atomosphere than in El Centro.

“Great shopping...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

Moving away from the bay you can find great deals. The best tip is to do the shopping in the morning after 10:00am.

“DEc 1-12 is festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Processions and pilgrimages every night with dozens to hundreds of people carrying candles and singing and going to the Cathedral in Centro to get blessed and pay hommage to the Virgin. Floats with a lady dressed up as Our Lady of Guadelupe is on the float , back of a pick up and many have on a T shirt with her picture. Great to see 4 generations together walking the cobblestone streets to the cathedral. There are 12 processions at least for 12 days. until 12 at night !! There are vendors selling food, trinkets, religious articles and tonight as we drove by, a full stage with a rock n roll singer and full band on the Malecon. When this is not going on. CENTRO is great shopping and good modern resturants and wall to wall loud discos and bars along the Malecon. Alittle pricy but they are everywhere. It's fun.

“A taste of old Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

This area is a contrast to the modern hotel area and its upscale condos, the Centro is a typical mexican Pueblo, with its cobblestone streets, old-fashioned stores and friendly people

“Great Shopping”

You want it...you can most likely find it in Centro...from the Farmers market to the special vendors and great restaurants. The sights and sounds of Centro are Mexico!!!
