“Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

We loved our stay at the Westin. We went during June when most of the Mexican tourist had not arrived (school was still in session) and not a lot of American tourist so the area, especially in the Marina area felt empty. So the lobby is beautiful and the rooms were large. We were able to get 2 adjoining rooms which worked out great. The rooms could stand a slight refresh but it was fine. Overall, we really liked all the staff. There were some miscues but nothing major….trying to get a cabana was tougher than I thought with some back and forth with the front desk. I think the fact that the place was pretty empty contributed to that. We never got her name but we had the same maid clean our rooms and she was wonderful. She left pretty towel creations like elephants, bunnies) And she thanked us for tipping… I don’t know she was supper sweet and kind.

This was our first ‘do nothing but relax’ vacation’ in a long time (versus constant sightseeing). It was wonderful. The pool is great for the kids. We ate lunch by the pool almost every day which got old pretty quick. They need to expand their menu. When we first walked over to the Marina in the morning – it was totally empty of any tourist…it was a bit shocking. We did find a great place for breakfast called Mr. Cream – probably the best waffles ever it was pure gluttony. Westin is a short walk over to the Marina. You’ll need to take a cab or bus to downtown.

Stayed in this hotel for two consecutive weekends for business purposes. Rooms are very clean, but furniture needs some renovation. The staff is very kind, the food is just average. This will not be my first choice for a hotel if I go on vacation to Puerto Vallarta

Stayed 7 nights and a few things need improvement. First off the lobby looks great but it has no fans or A/C. Since the hotel only offers free internet in the lobby, we would sit in the lobby quite often but it was hot! They need some fans to at least make it bearable in the lobby seating area. The elevators do not have fans or A/C so it was like walking into an oven. Terrible... Talking about the A/C... the patio doors in the rooms have sensors that turn off the A/C if the doors are open. The first night we arrived, these sensors were not lined up perfectly, even thou the doors were closed, so the A/C was not coming on. Staying on the A/C issues, we would go to the gym every morning, but they would not turn on the A/C until roughly 8AM. It was so hot and stuffy. Some friends went by during the day a few times and they mentioned the same thing about the A/C during the day. They may be only turning it on if it has users. The issue with that is it takes 45+ mins to cool it down. The gym overall was great! Just needs A/C before opening and during the operating time. Another point, we did not like is that they have a basketball court but they want a $20 charge a day to use it. We thought that was really petty. The room was clean and nice. Beds are very comfortable. The room had an LCD TV but the reception was terrible. It was full of static. It was the same in all three rooms we had, so they have some wiring or A/V issues. The pool area is nice but the pool needs painting and needs to be cleaned more often. We went 4 different days and every time the pool had tons of dirt and stuff floating in the water.

Over in the marina area which is just a short 10 mins walk, they have are a lot of restaurants ( suggest Victors, Coffee Cup and Brasil) and bars. The only issue is the time share people. It is non-stop and extremely annoying. Watch out since many of them approach you on the attempt to sell you an adventure tour but they will offer you free tours if you do the time share tour. Just beware. One couple with us agreed to go on the time share tour but when they said that we needed to make sure we brought our credit cards, the red flag went up. We heard that people that did the time share tours were getting un-authorized charges on their credit cards. Again - we did not do it, but it seemed to good to be true.

Overall our stay at the Westin was OK, but we would not stay again.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback; we apologize for the inconvenience about the A/C issue in our Lobby Area and Fitness Studio, definitely we will consider your suggestions to avoid this type of experience to our future guests.

In regards the A/C in our rooms we have planned that way to avoid expending energy and support our ecological program.

We appreciate your business and we hope to have the opportunity to see you soon at The Westin Resort &Spa, Puerto Vallarta, your new home

My husband and I just returned from Puerto Vallarta after four nights at the Westin. We were surprised how empty the hotel was at this time. They are definitely a great hotel and the staff is amazing. The grounds were very well maintained and the room was spotless. We were approached several times to purchase time shares but this was not on the hotel site. We would just laugh and they told us to have a nice day. This was our first trip to Mexico and my husband and i were a little apprehensive, coming from AZ we hear a lot of stories of false arrests which is usually at the border. Unfortunately, this is hurting the tourist business in Mexico and making it hard for the resorts to survive. Our room had a full ocean view, king bed and a beautiful deck. The rates were very reasonable for the room and all the amenities. Most of the staff spoke a little english and overall we had a great time. Would recommend this hotel above all the others in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is a least above the 5th floor to enhance a view of the entire area, and reques...

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience in our hotel in your recent visit to Puerto Vallarta.

This time of the year is very slow for us and really appreciate you have chosen The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta, your new home in Mexico.

As you just said, this magical destination is safe: located in a beautiful bay and surrounded by the “sierra madre” mountains with spectacular rivers.

We are looking forward to have you back in the near future

My very best regards

The good:
Fantastic staff. Not a single complaint here after staying for a week and basically only leaving a few times. Gorgeous views. Clean, well kept grounds. Cater to both families and guests without kids and do both well. Liked the location - close to the marina but quiet.

The Bad:
The rooms could use a little updating. Nothing horrific. Just some bathroom fixtures. After eating at the pool everyday for 5 days - I had tried everything on the menu...but those are serious first world problems. Food overall probably wasn't "the best"...but it was certainly decent.

overall - can't wait to go back!

After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor, we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We only stayed for one night but it was quiet and the pools were really nice. In high season, it might be loud (it definitely has the capacity to be, with sound systems around the pool bars), but we didn't see it.

We upgraded to the Royal Beach Club for $25 and it was worth every penny: the food is great and really doesn't count as "appetizers". So, two of us pretty much got "all inclusive" for that low additional cost. An additional mention goes to our waiter, Eloy, who was attentive without being intrusive. Major kudos goes to the fact that he noticed my harassment from mosquitoes and quietly provided bug spray to the table. Full marks! :)

Our first trip to PV, we went with the always upscale and reliable Westin. We are frequent business travelers and so we got an upgraded room which was pretty nice. Clean, comfortable, wonderful patio on the top floor with a hot tub... But the jets on the hot tub didn't work.
Our favorite thing about relaxing vacations to Mexico is the pool - including comfort, service, and food. Only comfort was met. The service was barely adequate. The food was TERRIBLE. Inexcusably bad. Our ceviche tasted and looked like canned tuna fish. Disgusting.
The spa too was exceptionally subpar. Basically no amenities, no toiletries, not even soap in the showers.
The doormen were outstanding, however. One guy even tracked down my sweatshirt after I'd left it in the cab the previous day.
I would not stay here again.
