“Friendly, Clean, Amazing Value and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We stayed at the Westin for 3 nights over Valentine's day and couldn't have been happier with our choice in hotel. From the moment we arrived we were treated as family, check-in was a breeze, I felt like everyone cared about my stay which was a warm feeling.

We had a room on the 7th floor with a spectacular ocean view (from what I could tell every room was ocean view, but on or under the 3rd floor you would probably struggle to see it). The room was perfectly adequate, a good size, they didn't have a king bed but offered to strap together two queens which we enjoyed. The balcony had large adirondack chairs which I loved. The bathroom had shutters mentioned in other reviews but traveling as a couple we didn't mind this at all. The shower didn't get extremely hot but it was certainly good enough. In-room safe was free but on the smaller side, certainly enough for an iPad and valuables. We tried all the restaurants and had good service and great food at each one, including room service. The prices of food and drinks is what you would expect at a resort, but not too expensive. The spa was good, parts of the locker rooms were under construction while we were there but we both enjoyed our couples massage.

While at the resort we spent most of our time at the beach, there isn't a huge area to swim in but the beach is nice - although it is littered with vendors trying to get you to buy things. Outside of the hotel we spent a lot of our time in the marina area which hosted a lot of smaller romantic spots and a great little bar in the lighthouse. Downtown was great too, about a 10 minute cab ride away and full of bars and shops, we definitely liked staying in the marina area though. The Oxxo across the street was a great convenience to have, super cheap snacks and drinks for in between meals.

Overall we loved our experience at the Westin and would certainly return.

This hotel is charming from the moment you get in. At the day we arrived the hotel was totally full but it didn't seem it, no crowds or noise.

About our room: We had a room at the Starwood Prefered Guest floor, the view was espectacular, in the morning you may see a cruise arriving at the marina and at night the view the lights of Vallarta is so romantic. The bed was the kind you never want to leave. The bathroom are nice with a panoramic window so you can take a relaxing bath viewing the sea.

The food: If you get the all inclusive plan good for you, we didn't and the food in there is pretty expensive.

Overall: one of the best hotels at the Marina, very luxury, you will enjoy it.

Room Tip: Try to get full view room, if you can't try to get higher floor rooms.

From Adrian at the front desk who first greeted me to the folks who would hail a cab for me my stay at the Westin was delightful. The room on the 11th floor had a great view and the bed was comfortable with nice linens. I particularly liked breakfast each morning. The fruit was really fresh & I got hooked on the spicy salsa roja. The salsa fresca was always good, too.

I stayed at the Westin in Cancun last February and had a great experience there as well. The folks who are at the front desk went above & beyond for me – thank you! Daniele was especially helpful making me a good drink in the afternoon. All the people who work there made my stay memorable.

We were given a room where the hot water wasn't working so we called reception and a guy tried to repair it. After 1 hour in our room he couldn't repair it and called reception so they could give us another room. In the new room the balcony door didn't have a lock and since we were traveling with small children we asked for another room. The third room we were given was in the floor were there was a lot of noise due to construction. We agreed to stay in this room because we had already lost a half day of our vacations in changing rooms and with 2 small, tired and hungry children. We spoke to the management about all these issues and the woman in charge wasn't helpful at all.
On the second day we wanted to rent a toy by the children's pool and we were told by the person renting the toys that if we didn't pay cash and instead charge it the room we would need to pay 10% more...Really?
The breakfast buffet was expensive and nothing special.
During this visit to Puerto Vallarta we also stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna and it was much better than the Westin in all aspects.

A really pleasant surprise, some of the best resort landscaping I've seen anywhere, beautiful open design of hotel, wonderfully relaxing rooms and an all around great staff make this a find, and for only $98 a night (off-season after Easter), it's a STEAL....would definitely recommend & will definitely be back. It's a $7 cab ride to downtown & all the activities, but for a chillaxing retreat, this is the one to beat.

Very nice modern Mexican architecture it has withstand its age more than well. You can tell it was designed a few decades ago only at the outdoor pool beach area which needs an urgent remodeling not because its in bad shape but because new modern hotels are more beach focused and integrate the services much better, this pool is away from the beach so you have to choose ocean view or pool view. Rooms are nice well appointed and feels fresh. One very positive thing about the hotel is that you can easily manage the distances, you can get anywhere within 5 minutes walking distance.

Room Upgrade: upon arrival we were greeted with a room upgrade to the 10th floor which was a very nice gesture and certainly appreciated, helps you forget some other small annoying things over the length of the trip.
Room check: nicely appointed, good bed, very few power outlets, bring an extension not kidding. You get two free bottles of water each day. They forgot to replenish ours on our last night :( also the fridge has some space for you to get some things in there as long as you don't bring the hotels stuff out, they will not like it.
Breakfast buffet: great service , good food in general although very poor rubbery pancakes. I asked for some fresh made ones and I got the same rubbery stuff but worse cause they heated them on a microwave so the edges were hard and un edible, It was disappointing that with fast and simple ways to prepare fresh pancakes and waffles you can't get them from this 4 star hotel, they should go visit a 2 1/2 star holiday inn to see what fresh made pancakes taste like (and free)
Pool: disappointing, not looking at the sea, not good for lapping its got a weird busy shape with islands it looks more like a fountain, beach restaurant and bar has a loud speaker system which broadcasts a very awful mix of 90s music. It be better of quiet or with some subtle lounge music. I could hear this noise with my headphones from the beach viewing beds which are free by the way.
Pool restaurant: food quality: regular. Service: regular we had to walk to the palapa to ask for service twice in an hour.
Beach : unattended very poor food and drink service in the beach
Concierge: We were never lucky to see the concierge, however there is a hotel employee at the entrance of the hotel who seems to be very knowledgeable and willing to help, his name is Moises. We got the best restaurant tips from him.
Gym: large enough to accommodate a crowd with nice updated equipment, however we had a bad experience; we arrived one hour before closing and as soon as we started exercising they turned of the air conditioning I suppose this is their way of making you a little uncomfortable and making guests leave before closing time so they can go home early. We asked them to turn the AC on again and they said it was not possible cause the maintenance guys would have to come back... In my opinion it's just lazy and of bad taste.

Conclusion: would I stay here again? Probably not. Should you? It all depends, if you really enjoy an ocean view pool like me maybe you shouldn't but if this is not important you should consider it. It looks friendly for families with kids they have many pool toys around. Overall the hotel is up to the 4 star standard, for sure they could do better and hopefully they will.

Restaurants and attractions to consider: The marina is right around the corner with many tourist trap restaurants you could fall into... Beware! However we found a good place worth visiting; El Coleguita is a Mexican ceviche and seafood place we came out of there really surprised it was packed you can tell people drive here to this place and not just fall in by mistake. Also in this are few nice stores and other places at the Nima building complex in front of the marina were you will be able to find your morning dose of Starbucks. In front of the hotel there is a convenience store were you can stock up on stuff.

You don't need a rental car if you will be staying here as trips downtown are around $5 each way.

Room Tip: Above the fifth floor you should get a nice ocean view

We spent one week at the Westin Resort & Spa. We booked an ocean view room and the all-inclusive package. I believe we paid an additional $100 in total for the ocean view room but it appears every room has an awesome view.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the most amazing staff. The hotel was absolutely beautiful inside. We were helped to our room and being that it was our first trip to PV we were given a lot of suggestions as far as tourism.

Our room was nice. Yes, I suppose if you want to look for things to pick apart I'm sure you could find something that needs updating...but why? Our view was amazing both at day and night. Someone had complained about noise in the evening in another review...we were on the 6th floor and it was quiet. Things also seem to close down fairly early around the pool area so there's not much going on after that.

The hotel grounds and pools are amazing! and the staff in the pool area also went above and beyond...such hard workers! There is a rule that you are not allowed to reserve the sun chairs but every morning before the pool even opened, people had their belongings on the chairs reserving them anyway and often times you'd see those same chairs empty the entire day. That was a little annoying.

The food was also really really good. The breakfast buffet was our favorite! So much to choose from, everything tasted so fresh and good. I think I gained some weight that week!

We also enjoyed a couple's aromatherapy massage on the beach one morning. It was fabulous! So relaxing and well worth the money!

The wifi in the rooms wasn't great but by the pool it worked perfect!

The only complaint I have was that almost 5 months prior to our visit I contacted the hotel about having guests. The reason for our trip was to visit family in Mexico and since we had chosen such a beautiful resort, we did want to enjoy it as much as possible. I asked about having our guests visit us. I was told our guests could get day passes for $35 us per person which included a $30 credit for food and drinks but was based on availability. Our guest was able to get 1 day pass which actually cost $50us not $35 and only included a 30 food and bev credit. When they tried to reserve another day, we were told they were at 96% capacity and were only allowed 90% so were unable to allow our guest to return. Later in the week, we tried again and were told they were now at 100% capacity and there was no way. I expressed my disappointment since I did inquire so many months in advance but I suppose I should have also reserved at that time as well. But I wanted to know why they were now at 100% capacity when at 96% were told we could not have a pass. They told me that they'd have the manager call us but we never received a call. So we ended up spending most of our time off of the resort which was a bit of a waste considering we purchased the all-inclusive package. So if you plan to have guests at the Westin, be sure to reserve a head of time.

Overall, we had a wonderful vacation! And despite the issues with our guests we still highly recommend the Westin. Everything was perfect! I also recommend the all-inclusive package if you're going to be spending a lot of time on the resort. It was nice to not have to think about money every time we had food and drinks. Everything was taken care of.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to have great views. No need to spend extra to get an ocean view. I think they all...
