My husband and I just came back from our 3rd visit in a row ro Playa Los Arcos; it is my 4th visit in the last 7 years. I work in travel and this hotel always manages to surprise me. If you are looking for a 4star plus megaresort go back to Nuevo and stay there. This is a family owned/oriented boutique hotel which is very proud of it's Mexican heritage. It is true each room is different; my favorite rooms are on the 4th floor, but be advised if you stay on the 4th floor the elevator only goes up to the 3rd.
the staff are wonderful and we have seen many of the same staff over the last 3 years and even some of the same guests! This year as an added value to their all - nclusive program for a 7nt stay they actually included 3 a la carte meals...2 from the BBQ grill and 1 from the specialty menu.. Food is very good but in true mexican style so if you are looking for your standard fare that you get at home then don't go all-inclusive. their snack bar has some of the best chicken tacos I have ever had!
The area can't be beat, the beach is beautiful and there is no where else I'd rather stay in Vallarta. With Playa Los Arcos you
really get a feel for Mexico....also as per

We've stayed here twice, both times booking multiple rooms. The location on the beach and the neighborhood can't be beat. The hotel is marginal. The rooms are highly variable, even at the same price. Great views; no view. Noise; no noise; good air conditioning; poor A/C. Large; small. Nice balcony; no balcony. Consequently, guests are frequently hovering around the desk, trying to change rooms. If you were promised some room one day, you probably won't get it the next because they gave it away to propitiate someone else. In short, the management is poor.

Nevertheless, we'd visit again because of the location and the fine staff that soldier their way through the chaos. The rooms are clean, although some smell musty or of insecticide. The pool and beach are great and the price is good.

This is Mexico. Downtown Puerto Vallarta. If you want to visit the USA transplanted to a warm climate, go 15 miles north to the Four Seasons.

We just got back from a week at the Play Los Arcos (11-24 thru 12-1). Our requested room was not avaliable so we were put in a Master Suite (upgrade) for one night and moved the next day. This moving of rooms seems to be rather common as I talked to several people moving on their second day. The Hotel is pretty much what we expected small but adequate rooms, old but serviceable furniture, great beach and the best location in Old Town Vallarta. The unpleasent suprise was the extreme mold and mildew smell in the rooms. I have allergies to mold and had to leave the windows open and take medication to make it thru the week. Three days later and my eyes are still ichy. If you are sensitive to Mold and Mildew, I strongly recommend you not book this hotel.

We very much enjoyed this hotel. Had no problem with our room -- we'd booked a "superior ocean view room" with a king bed directly with the hotel and had them fax us a confirmation letter. Air conditioning worked fine. Room was clean and comfortable. Location can't be beat. Pool and beach busy but not over-crowded.

Took a couple tries to reach them by telephone. Not sure what's up with that, but it wasn't an indicator of other problems or a shaky business.

Great value, but not a posh place. We hardly ate there because of all the great cheap food options in PV. We had to request extra tissue, towels, etc. when we wanted them, but always got them within a day.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — sometimes slow service
  • Tips/Secrets: — get a confirmation letter in writing, tip housekeeping staff every day -- especially first day

Arrived at the hotel at 1145am, and was told our room would not be ready until 3pm. They pointed to a washroom and told us to change and they would hold our luggage until our room was ready. When we asked about going to eat lunch, they told us they would not give us our all inclusive wrist band until 1pm. So we had to pay for our drinks etc until we received our wrist band. Our rooms stunk of mildew, we had sinus problems after being in the room for 20mns. (we do not have sinus problems otherwise) One room didn't even have a window. When we asked the front desk to move us, they told us the hotel was full. We had to wait until the next day to change rooms. Hotel beds and pillows are old and hard. The food at the buffet was very limited, and was always cold and terrible. All inclusive ends at 10:30pm, so you have to pay for your alcohol after that time. Bottled water in the room is available if you pay for it, and they do not supply it for free at any time. Problems with getting a beach side chair if you arrive after 12pm. The pool does not get direct sun. We are world travellers, taking 3 trips per year, this was by far the worst experience ever. Some of the hotel staff were friendly, most were not. Would not recommend this hotel at all.
