We stayed here for a few days over the Local Mardi Gras festivities. It is a very nice place, but bring your own soap, and shampoo. Great location, eat at the Bohemio just to the left outside the main door and at Coco's just one street to the south. The beach is beautiful and the locals are Fabulous.

Very Quaint hotel / Rustic hotel
excellent Location / Romantic zone "predominately gay area "
Close to Restaurants and shops on cobble stone roads
Request a room 4th floor or higher
Hotel right on the beach and boardwalk that leads to the Melican for night life and fine dining
Pool Marginal.
Staff was very courteous and helpful .
The restaurant in the hotel is a buffet style and has much to be desired .
There is a picture in the lobby with then President Nixon shaking hands with the President of Mexico .
it was the hotel in the DAY.

I visited this hotel 4 years ago and it was completely terrible. I would have rated it a 2 star. Now, I would rate it a 3 star. They painted the outside and cleaned it up a little. The food is still below average. The all inclusive booze is the lowest of the low. It's a VERY basic hotel. The people are extremely friendly and will always do their best to assist. The loud BOOM-SST, BOOM-SST, BOOM-SST, music by the pool at 10am could be toned down a few notches....Breakfast is good if you like made to order omelettes. Lunch is really bad hamburgers and bacon wrapped wieners and cold fries and soup.... plan to eat out a lot. Over all, I guess it's worth the money. Just don't expect any frills. Awesome location.

Jan/2014 - The hotel is older and needs to be updated but was very clean. The staff very friendly & helpful. Has 3 pools 1 for kids, 1 large pool that unfortunately was not heated, and 1 adult pool that had all the chairs saved with beach towels by 10 a.m. I do not think that is fair. On the flip side, the ocean is only a few steps away. Beautiful beach & right beside the Los Muertos Pier. The south end of the Malecon was about 1 1/2 blocks away. The food at the hotel was not very good. 2 small bars that were open off & on. You need to rent a lock for the safe in your room. Lots of interesting shops & restaurants within walking distance. Was never by out myself but was never afraid either. The hotel got busy by Thurs. for the weekend with lots of kids at our hotel.

I recently spent the first week of Feb. 2014 at the San Marino. The hotel is very outdated as one traveler stated. No frills anywhere!!. On the flipside the hotel had an awesome location, on the beach on the boardwalk in "Old Vallerta". One cabdriver told us were were in"boystown". We did find the neighborhood to be lively as well as well diverse. Everyone we encountered, be it transplants or born and raised there were so gracious and welcoming. We met ppl from all over including from our hometown of Chicago. We were invited to watch the Superbowl with Seahawks fans, enjoyed tableside Guacamole at the Margarita Grill. Had meals and drinks at the multitude of sidewalk cafes and bars. Hotel Marino food wasn't that good. Great trip overall and will return to old vallerta just not to the san marino. It's not for you if you like modern or plush amenities.

Great value and great location. Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. The bartenders would make you anything you asked for. First time I ever did all-inclusive and it was worth it. The food however, needs to be improved!

Room Tip: Definitely get a junior suite or master suite. Had some friends in a standard room and the view is p...
