I recently spent the first week of Feb. 2014 at the San Marino. The hotel is very outdated as one traveler stated. No frills anywhere!!. On the flipside the hotel had an awesome location, on the beach on the boardwalk in "Old Vallerta". One cabdriver told us were were in"boystown". We did find the neighborhood to be lively as well as well diverse. Everyone we encountered, be it transplants or born and raised there were so gracious and welcoming. We met ppl from all over including from our hometown of Chicago. We were invited to watch the Superbowl with Seahawks fans, enjoyed tableside Guacamole at the Margarita Grill. Had meals and drinks at the multitude of sidewalk cafes and bars. Hotel Marino food wasn't that good. Great trip overall and will return to old vallerta just not to the san marino. It's not for you if you like modern or plush amenities.
