Just left the hotel rio malecon about 30 mins ago with the most horrible taste in my mouth. First, I will say that the hotel is in an incredibly convenient location with just a few mins walk to get to the beach, restaurants, ect. The rooms themselves are pretty basic with hard as rock beds for the standard rooms as many people have already mentioned before but then we come to the check out process..when we first arrived on march 3rd we were asked to put down a $25 deposit which was fine ofcourse..but what they didnt tell us was that while we were taking a nap in our room the next day the housekeeper would come in and take all of our towels..leaving us with none..shouldnt be a big deal right? Well when we came down later that night to ask for towels since we were going back out that night we were met with a confused stare as if we had asked something completely ridiculous..after a stare down for what seemed like a few minutes we were given one big towel..when there was 2 of us staying in the room with no wash cloths to either wash or dry ourselves off with. Fast forward to check out today march 5th..Andreas from the front desk (who was also the confused stare down guy from the night before) greets us with smiles and ask if we could please leave a good review on trip advisor which I wasnt planning on leaving and then radios to someone to check the room before giving us our deposit back. 5 mins later he gets a call back saying the towels are missing besides the ones he VERY reluctantly gave us the night before.....SHE TOOK OUR TOWELS WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING THATS WHY WE CAME TO YOU LAST NIGHT!! SUUCCHH a scam. He asked us what the housekeeper looked like as if that was going to solve the problem and be able to track down the 3 face towels she took from us while we were sleeping..this made absolutely no sense to me because before i knew it im hearing that his manager is saying we owe 300 pesos for the 3 towels....SCAM SCAM SCAM!! Sooo the housekeeper takes our towels while were sleeping and now we have to pay for them?? does this not seem waaaayy too convenient for them to keep our deposit? and all he can tell us is he understands our frustration and if it was him he would be reacting the same way but that "I just work here" what a joke. ive been reading reviews on trip advisor for yearsss and never felt the need to write a review of a hotel until this very unfortunate situation happened. Soo like i said the location is great but BEWARE OF THE DEPOSIT SCAM!! they will find whatever they need to to keep your money ESPECIALLY if its american $$ youre leaving it in which i guess i shouldve known better but who expects the housekeeper to steal your towels like a thief in the night so they could get more outa you? not me. i would NEVER recommend this place.
