Mazatlan has been a place we always return to because of the people, the beach, the food, and wonderful resorts. we first visited in 1983. There have been alot of changes. we enjoy all of them. Going north has had the biggest growth and some of the hotels have taken the beauty of the beach away but progress is progress I guess. We have never encountered a uncomfortable situation. Visiting with the local families is always a joy.

Beware and avoid Mazatlan, Mexico. We just finished a Feb, 2011 cruise on Princess Cruise Line and we were rerouted away from Mazatlan due to the violence in Mazatlan. Our Ship Captain said all Cruise Lines were avoiding it, since it put the ship's passengers at risk of being injured or killed. If you want more information contact the Cruise Lines for updates, since the local hotels and travel people will tell you anything to get you there. Beware!

My wife and I have been going to Mazatlan since 2004. We are timeshare holders at the Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. This year we were a little concerned given all the press about drug cartel violence. We didn't hear nor saw any during our stay in March 2011.
We had a great time. Mazatlan is trying its best to make one feel at home and comfortable. It is less crowded due to the cruise ships dropping it for a port. I believe it will rebound soon. Go and enjoy!

We stayed at La jolla for a week. The pool looks like a narrow river, the rooms are really small and smelly. Their is a kitchen but no table to eat, you need to go outside even when you feel like air condition.
The place is just by the sea, but the beach is durty and their are full of big rock in the swimming area.
And you don't want to eat there, ever....
Also, they will try to send you memberships for their place for thousands and thousands of dollars that you will loose forever.

Stay away from that place.
