“Perfect Downtown Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2010

If you are looking for a wonderful small getaway, stay at the Loro de Oro Inn in downtown Mazatlan. The studios are a wonderful bargain and the interior courtyard/pool area is an amazing oasis. It's is a short walk to the beach, and very close to the Plaza Machado which often has nightly music. The Central Plaza and Cathedral are only 2 blocks away. Tony and Lucy are gracious hosts and will make you feel welcome. The restaurant "Te Amo Lucy's" has spectacular food and nightly live music. We loved our visit and hope to return someday soon.

Hidden from the street, behind Te Amo Lucy’s is the Loro de Oro Inn. We recently stayed 2 week in their Luxury suite and can highly recommend the place. From the newly renovated pool in the outdoor common area, to the roof top deck where you catch the sun’s rays and finally the 2 cats which will adopt you, Loro de Oro provides a home away from home.

I spent four relaxing nights here with my wife and would definately do so again. I'ts just a small place, only 4 or 5 rooms with kitchenettes that open into a pleasant courtyard with a swimming pool. It is very quiet and secluded and yet it is right in the heart of the Centro Historico and less than a block from the wonderful Plazuela Machado. Owners Tony and Lucy live in a beautiful place right across the courtyard and will see to your every need while providing a wealth of information. They have a couple of cats and three really cute chihuahuas that you may see on occasion.
A big plus here is Te Amo Lucy's, the superb little onsite restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lucy's cooking will knock your socks off and the coffee is great too. Also when I was there, Tony was just putting the finishing touches on the coolest little cantina / bar you've ever seen. Just a really charming place all around and very affordable. Why anyone would want to stay at large hotel when they can stay someplace like this is a mystery to me.

My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary and were very pleased. Tony and Lucy were very welcoming (as were their pets, who you're sure to fall in love with!) and helpful with suggestions. The location was perfect for us - out of the tourist zone and a few steps from Plaza Machado, where local vendors and music make for a festive environment each night. Great local shops in the area and equidistant between Olas Atlas and Stone Island, which we preferred (compared to the Gold Zone). The pool was under construction when we visited, so we were upgraded to one of the suites, which was AMAZING! Lucy and Tony also dish up wonderful food and can cater to vegetarians. Highly recommended!!! p.s., if you read this, Tony and Lucy, hi to little Mikki!!!

Dilemma 1: Where to go? Dilemma 2: Where to stay? My husband and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and finally chose Mazatlan which filled the bill perfectly - there are not enough good things we can say about the city.

Then, we made an even better choice and that was to stay at Loro de Oro. We chose to stay in the suite which is magnificient. It has way more space than we needed, a beautiful bathroom, beautiful furniture, authentic appointments, adequate kitchen, etc. (better than home). There are lots of fans that kept the rooms comfortable. (There is air conditioning but was not needed during our week.)

Then there is location!! It could not be much better. Plaza Machado is about 1/2 block away. We went there every evening and found that after an exhausting day of walking and walking that we felt we were experiencing Matazlan at its finest and were able to be rejuvenated. Although there were tourists, there were many locals doing the same as us.

Restaurants abound and we were able to enjoy the amenities of the historic district. It was perfect weather for walking and we did walk - to the lighthouse one day and the "golden zone" on another as well as many other shorter jaunts. We felt safe and secure, including at night. Taxi transportation is cheap and riding local buses was easy, too. Each morning we were awaked by the bells from the Cathedral.

And last, but not least, are the hosts. Tony and Lucy are wonderful and do everything they can to make your stay unforgettable. Even though the restaurant, Te Amo Lucy's Taqueria y Mas, was closed during our stay, Lucy prepared a very special, romantic dinner for our 50th celebration. It was the best meal we had in Mazatlan. Thank you, Lucy.

Put Loro de Oro 1st on your list! We will go back, but for a longer stay.

We stayed at Loro de Oro Inn over Christmas week and it was great! Tony and Lucy are great hosts and the inn is absolutely charming. The location is excellent too--just a few steps from the Plaza Machado and easy walking distance to the Malecon. We definitely plan to stay there again!
