“Great Location....Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2012

My first trip to Mazatlan to visit my relatives that winter there. I chose the Inn because of the price and was pleasantly suprised by the beauty. Friends that had rented a condo for a month suggested I also stay at the Inn because it's the only hotel in that area with a heated pool which is somewhat needed in January. I found the staff, grounds, restaurants and rooms to be a great value and again beautiful. I'm sure there are nicer rooms or better restaurants in the city but for the value and location a $5 "taxi" to old town or north ot the new marina area the Inn a great place to stay. I stayed in room 201 and would warn any couples or light sleepers to not stay in the 200's as you do hear the "am" staff getting ready for breakfast service and the ice machine is located right underneath room 201 so you hear the staff filling their ice containers at 6:45-7am and 10:15-10:30pm, you can almost set your clock by it. It didn't bother me because my wife couldn't get away with me and unlike her I'm an early riser so it was nice not having to set an alarm but for most it would be very upsetting. I also felt safer in Mazatlan then I do is San Francisco..walking main streets at midnight I felt very safe..Police/Army presense took a day or two to get used to but by day two of ten i didn't notice. Overall wonderful and will be going back for two weeks next year!

Room Tip: Unless you are an early riser (6:45-7am) and don't plan on going to bed until after 10pm stay aw...

When we get to the door of the hotel, staff members come out and welcome us by name..We go once a year, but the staff nearly always remembers us and is like family. The hotel is lovely with one of the best setting for the sunset in the area. The rooms are clean and pretty. Yes, people are asked to attend a presentation, but take no for an answer if that is what you want. The activities director, Fidel, is a delight. He provides a water aerobics class that is very popular as well as all the other activities he provides. The restaurant, Papagayo, has always been good, but recently underwent an ungrade and changed menues and management and is now better than ever.Sunday brunch is spectacular. The restaurant has, in my opinion, the best chiliquiles, guacamole and refried beans to be had in all of Mazatlan. I look forward to the first day and the Platillo Mexicano..a great combination plate of wonderful Mexican food. The two pool areas are sparkling clean and overlook the ocean. Overall a great place to vacation! Feel much safer there than in downtown Seattle!

Room Tip: all rooms face the beach, just have to watch out for the occasional tall palm tree in the way!

This property is primarily timeshare oriented but they do offer normal nightly rates and accomodations. Sadly you get "hit up" to attend a scheduled presentation immediately after registration... before you even get to your room. That promised "free welcome breakfast or lunch" consequently turns into a fairly aggressive presentation to BUY from a salesman...at least ours did with a guy named "Bill" who readily expressed his dissatisfaction when we refused.
Our stay included two different units; a 1 bedroom in the Inca Tower with 2 double beds (sleeper in the living area), 2 baths, full kitchen, dining and great patio with no TV in the bedroom and the one in the living area quite old with poor reception & limited channels. The second week in a studio unit, while adequate, was nothing to write home about and needed some refurbishing, upgrading and maintenance. It did have a small older undercounter refrigerator, 2 cup coffee maker, desk and a nice patio (no microwave-we asked for one but were refused). Check in at the front desk was uneventful and all employees were extremely gracious and service oriented especially Monica and Juan Carlos. During our room transition, the front desk was very helpful with information.

The Inn is definitely NOT remote and we think it has an excellent location being nearby many other beach resorts, restaurants, shops, grocery, banks etc. Bus lines (including newer AC busses) run directlly in front of the Inn and for less than a US dollar, you can get to nearly any part of the city.
A special note should be made of the pools, grounds and flowers which are impeccably maintained and truly outstanding resulting in a certain charm about the place that is almost magic and obviously under the direction and care of expert groundskeepers (Jose was enjoyable to visit with and his love & pride for his work is everywhere!). The bellman staff are truly outstanding always helpful & available with directions and information (especially Manwell & Alfonso) albeit the security staff always seemed to be a bit overzealous particularly in their dealing with nationals.
The restaurant and food is very good (supposedly much improved) attributed to a new, rather unfriendly Food & Beverage Mgr along with a new Chef. Maybe their new salaries made the menu on the somewhat pricey side (breakfast line, for example, is $12 US and most dinner specials significantly higher!!) The service can be kinda hit and miss (i.e. during one meal, you might be served by 3 or 4 different wait-staff members-but NOT the same one twice!) Plate presentation was usually very good with the Salad Bar being mediocre (limited selections from stainless steel pan inserts in a table cloth wrapped ice bin!!??...unidentified dressings, no diet items, ground pepper, oil, vinegar, etc) During meals, we were never once were we approached by a management/host/hostess person asking about our satisfaction. Drinks seem overpriced considering the other places we visited. Be careful to ask the price when "calling' a brand or wine!! Our two experiences with room service left us NOT wanting to try it a third time.

Organized recreational activities are scheduled daily and posted on a board by the towel station but sometimes do not happen for whatever reason. Daily water aerobics were fun and Spanish classes were good. Organized tours can be arranged through a desk in the lobby and at bargain prices.. The Wednesday night Fiesta meal and show was good.

We became quite attached to some of the staff at the Inn during our visit and enjoyed the ambiance and conveniences.

A US-educated physician is at the property with a office and a nurse which proved to be a real plus for us. An office visit and prescription was only $20. A spa is also located on premises (a massage was $25 dollars more there than next door!).
Wi-Fi in the room is available to a degree (signals vary greatly) but at very inflated price ($7 per day!! ---but go to the bar area or to Rico's coffee house across the street, enjoy an excellent cup and get it FREE!). Local phone calls were reasonable but ask for an "800" operator and you get a whopping $2.50 charge whether they answer or not. No other unusual charges were appeared on our bill. The Exercise room was clean and well organized with mostly newer, well-maintained equipment.

Safes are provided in most rooms in the new tower and if they are not, a free safety-deposit box is available at the front desk. Cable TV was available in the rooms but were primarily in Espanol other than the boring International Headline news channels. A nightly movie is featured on the Inn/s TV channel and there were a couple other movie channels with sub-titles..

The facility is fairly handicap friendly although NOT completely with two of the floors in the older Hotel section requiring stairs.
Transportation TO the Inn from the Airport can be arranged prior to arrival for a small cost of $20US round trip and via a very nice AC bus with the agent awaiting you after you emerge from customs -holding a sign). Taxis cost about $30US each way if I remember correctly.

The Inn at Mazatlan is actually a very good place to stay... despite some of my comments. Most guests seemingly return annually... and they are always ready to offer suggestions about Mazatlan and places to eat etc. If current promises by the Inn's owner/GM committing to improved maintenance & refurbishing are upheld, the Inn physically could become overall an OUTSTANDING & EXCELLENT property! The employees and staff already are outstanding and excellent with a service orientation and dedication unmatched!!

2nd time at the Inn, best staff in Mazatlan, best sunsets ever, good location, a safe place to be.
To bad Mazatlan/Mexico has been given a bad rap, can you go out after dark in your home town and feel safe ? The City is a little rough around the edges but the Inn makes up for it.
No pressure for time shares, very quiet at night other than a little traffic noise out back, not a party place for you young folks, just an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: rooms in the big tall tower are a little noisy ay night due to traffic out back

Time share high rise. Very friendly staff, clean, good location. Vacancy is down, as tourist numbers are very low. Good restaurant on location, nice beach, excellent for shopping and other restaurants.

Just returned from The Inn at Mazatlan and had a great time. Always felt safe at the Inn, the staff was there to answer your questions and you felt they kept an eye on who was coming and going out of their hotel.
Started out in a Jr. Suite untll they found our reservation and we were moved to a one bedroom suite, both in the tower. Monica at the front desk was very helpful in helping us get everything straightened out. I don't mind if there is a problem, as long as someone works on fixing it, and she did. The Jr. Suite was nice and is plenty big enough for two people. The one bedroom had two bathrooms and two TV's and a bigger kitchen. We did like that it had a big hideabed in the couch and we slept on that most nights with the patio door open (screen was in place) so we could hear the ocean. The only thing I would do different first thing is go to a bigger grocery store than the ones nearby to have more options for food/snacks in the kitchen.
(I heard rumor the hotel arranges for a group to go to the bigger stores on Tuesday mornings, but we had signed up for Whale Watching so we did not check it out)
We did water exercise and a Zumba class with Fidel that we enjoyed, and the 4-6pm Happy Hour every night is great. Love those Mango Margaritas! Restaurant also makes excellent food, and if you don't see it like you want on the menu, just ask! They want to please.
Many people are there every year and know each other, but are friendly and engage you in conversation and you can tell they are happy to be there. The Welcome Party on Monday night was a great move for the new General Manager. He introduces long time staff and addressed some of the issues I have seen on Trip Advisor. Specifically the internet and that it is hard for them to get access through their cement walls, so now they have free coffee in the morning in the big hut by the restaurant along with internet service.
This is a good location for all the places we like. Short walk to Chili Peppers/Tony's/Fat Fish in one direction and then shopping/Pancho's and the Panama bakery the other direction. Unfortunately less tourists mean less shop keepers and you can tell many have moved out.
And the ocean view and beautiful sunsets every day, made me very happy with our choice to stay at The Inn.

Room Tip: We were on the 10th floor of the tower and there was always a nice breeze and a great view of the be...
