With our seventh anniversary approaching, my husband and I wanted to go to a beautiful place to enjoy a relaxing extended weekend. At first we thought about staying in a hotel, but after my husband learned about Casa de Leyendas through tripadvisor, we were hoping to stay there. Given the lateness of our booking the trip, there were no rooms available at the Casa. But once in Mazatlán, with a blow of good luck from fate, we ended up staying right were we wanted and we were very happy about it. Glenn and Sharon welcomed us very warmly making us feel at home right away. The bedroom was attractively decorated keeping the Mexican style. The house is gorgeous and you can tell a lot of care and time were invested in making it look as beautiful as it is. Mary and the cook (sorry, I don't remember her name) took care of keeping the house spotless and cozy besides preparing a breakfast to make anybody happy and satisfied. There couldn't have been any better way of unwinding from our everyday life than this stay at the Casa. Plaza Machado, the heart of the historic center, is within walking distance. In the evening you can listen to live music and if you lucky, there are going to be local musicians playing the beautiful traditional Mexican music. The Plaza also has many restaurants. La Tramoya had wonderful food. The shrimp was delicious and the Crepe with cajeta (goat milk caramel) for dessert was absolutely a must. Across the street from Teatro Angela Peralta is a dessert store that also serves sandwiches. A suggestion is their grilled salmon on ciabatta. If you go to Casa Loma, in the Zona Dorada (Gold Zone), try Fish Veracruz from the selection of typical Mexican dishes. It was my best meal in Mazatlán. We heard about Aroma Spa and had our hour massage there for $ 20. Divine! It was hard to keep awake after such good treatment. And don't miss visiting Casa Etnika, within a few minutes of walking distance from La Casa. They will treat you very kindly telling you stories about the different objects that they sell and the tradition or cultural trait that they represent. Time spent there was a precious experience grasping a litte bit of the Mexican soul.
If you are up to have a really relaxing day, go to Isla de las Piedras (Stone Island) on a day other than Sunday, when we heard it's more crowded.
I strongly recommend Casa de Leyendas. Glenn and Sharon certainly made a difference. They know how to be the perfect hosts! It was a very short stay for us, but it was a very special one.
