“Outstanding resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

All have ocean views. The resort is beginning to show some aging, but we find there is on-going painting and cleaning. For owners there is always the attempt to get one to "upgrade" and great caution is advised as the sales information is subject to pinning down the details and then to verify. For non-owners, the same suggestion is advised. All resorts in Mexico have the tendency to promise that which is later found to be inaccurate. That being said, we greatly enjoy Mazatlan and this wonderful facility.

Room Tip: All have ocean views. Higher rooms are quieter and give a better view of the Pacific Ocean.

The only thing that Pueblo Bonito staff are interested in is selling new timeshares or getting owners to invest more. An arriving guest has to maneuver through a horde of chattering sales people to check in and then are accosted again after they are while their bags are moved through the lobby to the back for transportation to the rooms.

Why do that when the place is going downhill. The TVs are ancient, the couches are sub-par, the food is just okay, the reception is lousy, the grounds are not properly maintained and the level of service has degenerated since they let go 25% of their staff. The staff who is there try hard but you can tell they are all overworked and the stress is getting to them.

The beach even though you cannot swim in it is beautiful, the pool is nice except for weekends when it fills up with hundreds of kids. It seems they are encouraging a class of clientele who pack the rooms to capacity and then spend the whole weekend grabbing lounge chairs at 6:00am. There is a policy to not let this happen but it is never enforced.

The spa is beautiful but way over priced. A massage at the spa is $100 and in town about $25. Our local high end fitness center has a massage for $75. The no show penalty and 24 hour appointment requirement plus high prices made it totally undesirable as an experience.

My advice is if you get a good deal, take it, but do not spend 5 star money on a 2 star service resort.

A great hotel with helpful staff and very good service. Best of all if you buy the all-inclusive you can use both hotels (the other being closer to downtown) also eat at both places without reservations. The only bad part is the beach has much rocks so you have to be careful not child friendly. Overall if you want to relax from everything a very good retreat to get away from all the noise and just enjoy your drinks!

We purchased 2 timeshares at Emerald Bay approx. 5 years ago and have enjoyed a week at the resort each year, BUT at this point we feel that it is starting to become run down (especially the rooms). The bathrooms need some tile maintenance and better cleaning on a daily basis. The sofa's are very uncomfortable because the cushions are so flat and worm out they seem to just slide off the frame. We also feel that the price of the drinks are outrageous!!! and we only drink beer (which is locally produced). On the positive side, the pools are lovely and the view spectacular.

This was my first time in Mazatlan, but not my first time at a Pueblo Bonito resort - I was really surprised.

The grounds are stunning at Emerald Bay, but I am so perplexed by the outstanding reviews for this resort. The rooms are not great (ants and roaches), the food is subpar( drinks are watered down - poor job at fine dining - even worse job at their own cuisine) and there is not really a beach.

The high point of the trip was the spa. It was expensive, but worth every penny. I had 5 treatments in all.

Their sister resort in town was a nice getaway. You hop a free hourly shuttle.... They have a beach and a cute little restaurant with amazing views! I wouldn't stay there - it's old and in my opinion, it's not in a great part of town. The Gold Zone was a half mile down, but most of the shops were boarded up. I got a eerie feeling walking through the area. I know the economy really hit them, but I have not seen anything like this in Mexico - and I have been all over the country.

Old town was great. Many restaurants in a square lit up in the evening. My favorite was Topolo.

I know this is the nicest resort in Mazatlan, but I question whether the reviewers travel other cities in Mexico. There is so much more to offer all around.

Room Tip: 1800 or 1900 building. Patio + view

Rooms are large, outstanding, balcony with ocean view, very clean with little kitchen. Service is wonderful, front desk very courteous and welcoming. Transport within the compound very convenient and the drivers are ultra friendly. Free bus shuttle into town to their sister hotel. Food is acceptable. Pool side food is not bad. Pool plus access to beach is very good. Will go back again

Room Tip: Just request what you wish. They are very accommodating. We requested ocean view up the highest fl...

We own a time share at Emerald Bay, and the first week of October was our 8th week to spend there on vacation. The food at all restaurants is wonderful. Even poolside the food is great.
We have seen a lot of changes this last visit. I realize the economy and a lot of people's fears of Mexico have really hurt the tourist trade to Mexico, but seeing our favorite place going down in care and maintenance was sad. The help is not happy either. All staff were doing a great job, as they always have, but there was a lack of heart felt dedication to their chores.
I do still recommend Emerald Bay to all who enjoy a beautiful resort with beautiful ocean views and ocean access. We always rent a car, but even without there are nearby restaurants and downtown Mazatlan to explore by taxi. Try out La Bruja restaurant only 10 min. drive from Emerald Bay! What a wonderful place. It is an open air restaurant and the people are great. The menu is authentic mexican and very, very good. Prices compared to U.S. cannot be beat. Huge fish dinners with rice and beans for $6! Giant margarritas during happy hour, 2 for the price of one,$6.... for TWO! The view from this restaurant is amazing. It's right on the beach and the ocean is beautiful.

Room Tip: A room above the ground floor will have a better view off the bacony.
