“don't stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Don't stay in the time share units. Sparsely furnished and over occupied. Party atmosphere prevails and there is no way to control the behavior of the renters. Nice beach front location but not a place for rest & relaxation.

There are a number of negative reviews about this place, so I thought it might be helpful to give my view since I stayed there last week.

Overall, this is a terrific choice for what it is and that is a condo right on the best beach in Mazatlan. This is NOT a "resort hotel" if that is what you are looking for, i.e. a concierge to book everything for you, tons of activities (i.e. an activities desk) onsite, this is not for you.

Pros:
1. Best beach. It is private and beautiful.
2. The private palapa's are a great place to nap or read a book right on the beach. The beach is well maintained, groomed every morning. There is an attendant who will set you up (no charge).
3. Very peaceful and quiet. This is about 4 miles from the hustle and bustle of the bars.
4. Nice pools (there are two--one warm and one cold for the Canadians).
5. Walking distance to a number of restaurants (Playa Bruja).
6. Nice units, ours had two bedrooms and two baths, tile, granite, etc. with washer dryer.
7. Great value.
8. Very good onsite restaurant that recently added a little "room" directly on the beach and commanding of amazing direct ocean views.

Cons:
1. This is NOT where you want to stay to "party". Many of the residents (owners) are older.
2. Some of the units are starting to show their age if they haven't been updated yet.

Net net, is that this is not an "ultra luxury" property but it is very nice. Stay here with confidence.

Room Tip: Go for a unit in the "B" or "C" building. Best views (B building) and washer/dry...

We rented suite 309B for 2 weeks from the condo owners. The condo was very nice and very clean, it was equipped with everything we could want including wifi and a free phone to make calls to the US and Canada. The building was well maintained. There are elevators, 2 pools, kiddy pool, gas grills to use, restaurant, a small store (there is a bigger store across the street). The complex is gated so only people who belong there can enter. The beach is the nicest in town, wide, soft sand, gently sloping, and dotted with palapas. There is a beach guy who brings you loungers and the waiter comes out to the beach to take drink orders. We stayed there 4 times and were never disappointed, will be back.

Costa Bonita Condominium and Beach Resort is an idyllic place to stay in the wonderful city of Mazatlan Mexico. Situated right on what has to be one of the world's finest beaches you couldn't ask for a better location. The Palapa Restaurant serves delicious food and cocktails to be enjoyed whilst having an enviable view of the Pacific Ocean. The staff at the resort are amongst the friendliest anywhere in the world. Loungers are available free of charge around the pool or at the palapas situated on the beach. The amenities also include two swimming pools, a jacuzzi, library and hot tub. In addition there is a well equipped air conditioned gym and tennis courts for those who enjoy some healthy pursuits whilst on holiday. Horse riding is available nearby. The resort benefits from the services of a masseuse and only a phone call away is a beautician who will give you a manicure and/or pedicure. The local buses are wonderful and incredibly cheap and run a very frequent schedule into the city. Taxis, aurigas and pulminias are also available for hire to get you about this wonderful city.

If you are looking for a stress free holiday by the ocean you simply couldn't ask for more.

Room Tip: Choose a condo on B building for uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean.

I will never come back to this place ever. They have horrible guest attention, our room did not got cleaned until the third day of our request!! We had to personally go to talk to the manager to send someone. No towels change, no toilet paper, no soap, nothing.
We had our baby with us, he make pipi on the sheet, we request change... guess what, nobody did anything. I love Mazatlan, but this place is totally out of my options list on my next trip.

I booked a condo through Interval World. Overall, the resort is nice. The staff are friendly, the restaurant is really great, and the pools and beach is great. The reason I rated the resort as average would be the condo that we actually stayed in. The beds were ROCK HARD, and the condo overall needed a lot of updating. Also, the maid service was somewhat lackluster. (Sand just swept up against a wall, etc). It would get boring for people not able to adventure out into the city. There is a bus that goes right into the Golden Zone that is super cheap, so we didn't mind being a little out of the city at all. Overall, I would return to Mazatlan - not sure about to the Costa Bonita.

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week stay at Costa Bonita. For the first week we were joined by our adult daughter and her 2 small children.

We all had a great time and, in spite of previous reviews I've read regarding owners not wanting children to be there, we met many owners who were very friendly and partiicularly nice to our grandkids.

In fact the complex is ideal for small children. It is, of course, right on the beach and there are 3 pools 2 of which were heated when we there (I understand that the heating is turned off at the end of March). One of the pools is very very shallow and perfect for our nearly 3 year old to splash around in and the other is just 4ft 6ins deep. It would be pretty boring for teenagers as it is quite a way from the Golden Zone and the Historic Centre and there are no actual resort activities and, as others have said, it's pretty quiet in the evenings. Perfect for us!

The condos are mostly all self owned and the HOA runs everything. The staff are excellent and there's a terrific little open air restaurant right on site which is open from 8am to 8pm 5 days a week and from 8am to 4pm on Sundays and Mondays. The food and drinks were very good, the prices more than reasonable and we enjoyed eating there several times.

It's my understanding that there are 16 out of 155 total condos that are still owned by the developer and these are rented out as hotel suites. Weekends do get a bit busy as there are often weekend packages being offered.

I think there is sometimes confusion with this accomodation. We rented from an owner through VRBO a very comfortable and spacious 2 bedroom 2 bath condo for an excellent price and met others who had rented in the same way. However I spoke to a few people who had booked either directly with the resort or through a time share exchange who were not so happy with the accomodation. These are the people who complain about lack of towels and poor furnishings.

We may not return next year as there are still so many other places to visit but we will probably return sometime and will definitely want to stay at Costa Bonita.
