“Excellent Family Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Travelled with my husband, two kids age 10 & 14, mother in law, and my parents Mar 23-30th. My first time to Mazatlan and it was amazing! The resort was clean, the stafff were very friendly, and the food was good. Very family friendly resort, lots of activities to keep the kids entertained. I would definitly visit the El Cid Castilla again!

Me and my husband stayed at the El Cid Castilla for 8 days in February. It was amazing! We had a great ocean view room, and we were always looking forward to waking up to the sound of ocean waves. The staff were great! Special thanks to Adam, Gabriel, and Paul (the ever helpful waiters). We never ran out of drinks by the poolside, and they were always helpful at the buffet. The staff at El Cid Castilla are very hardworking and very friendly. Our room was always clean. I loved the food at the buffet. Yummy food all the time! I would definitely go back. People in Mazatlan are very freindly. Mazatlan is very safe, read S-A-F-E. I will never forget the experience. I will definitely go back. :)

Spent 8 days/nights at El Cid, Mazatlan and absolutely loved it! The hotel offered a range of fun activities, the restaurants were brilliant, and the staff were super friendly, especially the young ladies in the VIP room! Mazatlan seemed very safe, and the locals were very appreciate to see the tourist having a fun time! Would love to go back!

We continue to return to El Cid Castilla simply because the staff give us first-rate service and hospitality. We truly feel at home here.
We would like to say "Gracias muy muy mucho" to DAGO SAMANIEGO at the front desk who truly listened to and 'heard' our concern. Without making any promises he handled the situation professionally and this resulted in our 2 week stay being stress-free.
The best captaine by far was GUILLERMO GARCIA MUJICA at the Pergola breakfast. He was continually supervising that everything was as it should be. He greeted guests at the door, checked with them during the meal to see that everything was okay, supervised his staff and even served guests and cleaned tables when it got really busy. We noticed this was not the case with other captains. Service was awesome at breakfast and lunch but really fell off at the evening buffet. Often the staff stood around visiting with each other while guests were waiting for drinks. When they started interacting with the guests it was better but once we sat until 7:22 without being asked what we wanted to drink. We also found that many of the evening buffet waiters seemed tired and didn't smile very much.
Thank you to RICARDO SIMENTEL and ARMANDO RENDON who provided excellent service at breakfast and lunch. If you sit with these two you will want for nothing.
We met a very personable young kitchen helper named MISEAL GONZALEZ LOPEZ who worked around the Alhambra restaurant. His had an excellent command of English (much better then most waiters) which seemed to be wasted working in the background. Hopefully next year when we visit El Cid he can be one of our waiters.
Other waiters worth mentioning were SERGIO FLORES TELLO (Sushi Bar) and LUIS ALONSO GARCIS KOOC (Cascada) who worked quickly and efficiently to provide awesome service.
THankyou to JENNIFER RAO who looked after my husband who had mobility issues, and happily translated for us whenever we needed her. Her English is impeccable.

THe yogurt, fresh fruit, omelets, bacon etc. were enjoyed at breakfast. THe onion rings, french fries, nachos, shrimp and ribs at the Alhambra were excellent. We enjoyed all the ala cartes. When we told Sergio at the sushi restaurant that we didn't want any raw meat he suggested the Mongolian beef and Chicken Terryaki which was awesome. The garlic shrimp at the Cascada was very good. The marinated flank steak at the Argentinian was very tender. The pasta at the Italian ala carte was done just right. All in all we cannot complain about the food. Of course there were things we don't like to eat but there was alway more than enough that we did like. We noticed some of the ala cartes has live entertainment.
I was very disappointed when we were at El Patio when the gentleman playing the accordian and singing was constantly "heckled" by a waiter named Jaime. The poor man was trying to sing while the waited continued to yell "WHOW-OH' the entire time. I could not believe that he was allowed to do this.
We appreciated that we had bottled water any time we wanted it. Also we noticed that there were more English channels on the tv. There has been extensive repairs done to the pool area and the water in the pool is heated!!!! This year there was more shade provided with awning and umbrellas which was really nice. While we were there, they replaced all the lounge chairs.
We stayed on the 9th floor (have always stayed on the 14th or 15th before) which was noisier during the day and evening when the spring break students arrived. We have never been bothered by noise before. Our room was freshly painted (painting seems to go on all the time) as were many areas in the hotel. Our maid kept it very clean and it smelled fresh when she left.
We have always been bothered by the timeshare people but this year if you told them you wanted "no contact" they made note of it and you did not hear from them. A real improvement.
The only real change that I felt was a negative was that the Mexican Fiesta nites which last year were twice a week have been discontinued. This was really sad seeing that we were at a Mexican resort. We could have attended the one at El Patio at extra cost.
We felt we got good value for the amount we paid for this vacation. We got 5-star service for a 4-star price. All in all we cannot wait to go back next year. We will be returning with family.
Thank you to the staff at El Cid for making this an awesome vacation.

Castilla is a very busy property, and very loud. The hotel upgraded our room to right on the beach, which was very nice. But we were only able to tolerate the noise there for moderate intervals. We went over to the Granada when we needed quiet. One morning we happened to be in the office checking our email when a Canadian gentlemen came in and complained that they were not able to sleep due to the noise during the night. There were a large number of young local travelers (spring break?) and they were active and loud all night. Otherwise the Castilla is OK for one of the older hotels. The staff is great. The food was what you would expect. No complaints other than the noise.

We just returned from a week long trip at the El Cid Castilla with a group of twelve. Our stay was amazing and the staff made us feel like royalty. I have stayed at several all inclusives in Mexico and have had decent service from the staff, but the waiters at the El Cid rose far beyond my expectations. Leticia in the lobby bar was amazing, she was very friendly and we never went without a drink. We spent two days on the beach and Michael was my favorite waiter. I don't know how he kept up with our group of twelve, but he did. In fact he was so efficient we could barely keep up with him. He was a fun guy to have around too. Jorge was a great waiter as well. He was very friendly and also kept our drinks coming.

We were blessed with perfect weather all week, which made the trip almost perfect. High 70's and low 80's. We were able to play in the ocean every day except the last day when there was a bad undertow. The sand at the resort is fine and not as course as the sand in Cabo, making it easy to walk barefoot on the beach. The pools are great as well. The pools on the El Morro side is beautiful and has rocks to jump off and a slide. This pool, and the main pool on the El Castilla side are heated which is odd for a Mexican resort, but very welcome!! The side pools are chilly, but are nice to slip into when you're super hot from a day in the sun.

The food was typical of an all-inclusive, not superb, but not bad either. Our group could always find something good to eat. The omelet bar in the mornings were popular with our group. I don't like that the room service isn't included in the all-inclusive plan. This is a draw back since there are some mornings and nights you just want to relax in your room in your pajamas to eat. Me and my daughter did have room service one night, each of us had a sandwich and it costs us $36 usd. My husband ordered 4 boxed lunches for his fishing trip and it cost us $72!! However, they did prepare the boxed lunches fresh the next morning and had them waiting at the lobby at 5:30 a.m. which was very helpful.

The rooms are definitely outdated, but ours were all clean. The beds are hard just as every other Mexican resort I have been to. We just made sure to drink enough that we could sleep, haha. The balcony only had one chair and a cement bench. The railing was made of concrete, so you couldn't sit down to enjoy the beautiful view. That's just a minor draw back though, because the view was amazing. My entire group was located on floor 12. If you're looking for adjoined rooms, you can request 1201 and 1202. The tower is centralized to everything, and I didn't feel like we had to walk far to get to any of the amenities. The layout makes everything feel close. The handicap ramps seem pretty steep, and I felt bad for anyone who had to use them since it was a workout just to walk up some of them.

I love the location of the El Cid Castilla, only a short walk to any of the markets, bars or restaurants. We ate at Gus & Gus three times. We love that place. The atmosphere is awesome. They have a live band at night that plays good music and during their breaks they have Caribbean performers who are enjoyable to watch.

We loved our time here and would happily return.

Dear: Sir or Madam,

We feel gratified when we receive words of encouragement that allows us to reflect even more of how better to personally service our guests. We are delighted that we were able to be more than accommodating.

El Cid Resorts considers many forms of service, whether it may be maintaining room condition to personal and instinctive service from our staff. We believe service is not carried out of obligation, but from the very essence of empathy and kind thought. We thank you for allowing us to contribute to your Mazatlan experience.

We are very pleased to learn how much you enjoyed the weather, beach and pool areas and the convenient location we have in the hurt of the golden zone near from everything which make your stay even more memorable.

I regret to your experience with the rooms service and the rooms not all of them are remodeled; we still working in renovations to our hotel.

We look forward to your arrival and serving you and your family for a most memorable trip. Prior to arrival or during your stay with us, should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at your convenience.

This was our 4 year to stay at El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel and if gets better each year. The personal are friendly and very helpful from the front desk to the ladies making sure our rooms were clean. We go with a big group each year to build houses in Mazatlan with a group called YWAM (Youth with a Mission) and El Cid is great to work with our group. We have 3 days for working and then 2 days of vacation which works great for our group.
