We have been going to Mazatlan for 16 years and have stayed at so of the other hotels. This was our first year at the Luna. After booking I checked out some of the reviews and got a little nrevous, As many were not to good. We arrived for a 1 month stay. And could not find one thing to complain about. The rooms were clean all brand new mattress. We were on the 8th floor room # 3009 a very large room great view. New tv's in the room. Shortly after we arrived they came and opened up the kitchen. We had a nice bid tub with a shower plenty of hot water. The view was great, the desk staff even if there was a language problem did ther best to help us out. The maid service was great and the rooms were often done by noon. The restraunt staff were great ,we only had some snacks there but they still treated you great even if you didn't order drinks and meals. Always called you by name Would come around to see if you needed ice for our small cooler we took down with us. The pool was great not to hot, water slides for the kids. Was a nice and quite family type hotel . Lots of restraunts with in walking distance to eat out at. So the people that gave this hotel a poor rating . Mexico is a country that is what it is and maybe you expect to much when you travel. When we go to mazatlan I'am just thankfull that I 'am able to travell and have a place to relax at.So to the staff at the Luna Palace You do a great job and hope to see you next year

Our family of two adults and three children stayed at this resort last year. First of all, I have to say I thought the package we got for what we paid was great; mostly because it included Mazatlan, which we loved. Wonderful restaurants, great shopping, and we thought a perfect beach right outside our hotel. The Luna Palace rooms are a nice big size, in fact our junior suite had two washrooms, The beds were fine, and the kitchen while worn, was functional. The Kitchen accessories were pretty grim, if we went again I would bring a few spoons and a can opener from home. The coffee pot was great, and the fridge was cold and handy. I felt the biggest problem with this hotel was the management. We were aware that Mazatlan is colder than other spots on the coast (which it was), and chose Luna b/c of the "heated pool". It was freezing, my husband did not go in for our stay. The frustrating part, was that on our second last day, I noted that it was suddenly warmer. Clearly. due to the low occupancy, management was too cheap to put on the heater. This would have made a big difference. On one evening, the hotel had rented out the courtyard to an extremely noisy business group. I love Mexico, and I don't generally worry about "noise" but this was excessive. At around 4:00 a.m. another angry luna palace customer went down to the party and started a very aggressive exchange. We were later advised that the manger (who apparently is also in charge of Oceana Place aka party place) was likely at this very obnoxious event. We heard later from staff, that this somewhat bizarre episode has happened on other occasions. Anyways, all of the hotel patron who had gathered at the front desk at 4:00 a.m. to complain (there were many) left notes requesting a conversation from the manager, who was never seen again. Poor, poor service. All the complaining aside, the area around the hotel including the nice clean beach with just the right surf, fabulous restaurants (The purple onion, the tree house place across the street) were really fun and great value. Likewise, the real live batting cage on the Malecon was very entertaining for our son. We loved Mazatlan and will return, we may just try for a little better hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the luna Palace for christmas and Newyears. The reviews we read were true all of them. Our room was not the room we requested and our travel company ( signature vacations did not forward our requests. ) after much complaining we were moved to the 7th floor to a nice suite but no king bed. Tv was good A/C worked well . The stove was another story. My husband was shocked quite badly trying to cook breakfast for us. When we asked for the stove to be repaired we were told When in Mexico COOK WITH YOUR SHOES ON>
The other thing that was not stated before is that the hotel is overtaken by locals on the weekends and "what are you going to do about it" The staff is not friendly at all except the wonderful maid that we had. Made us pretty flowers everyday out of tissues.
Be prepared for the winds in the winter months , You are on open ocean and it is very difficult to find anywhere on the resort to get out of the wind. It can be quite cold.
Beverages at the pool bar are very expensive , very few patrons use it. Bring your own from the store across the street. or super market.

The restaurant was horrible as previously stated by others . But given that there are alot of great restaurants close by . The place ask for Carlos he is fab. Great food there too.
The coldest beer and best burgers are at Munchkins across the street and down to the left about 2 blocks.

For a great steak La Zarrapas. across the street be prepared for a wonderful experience with salsa made at your table. FABULOUS.. Excellent service.

And the purple onion, and heathers place always have something going on. Down in the golden zone there is a place called Gringo Lingo's all you can eat shrimp/menu from 12:00 to 5:00 everyday for 13.00us.

Well enjoy Mazatlan has so much to offer, and keep in mind all you need is a clean bed to sleep in. So have a cerveza and have some fun. We would like to add that if you are specifically looking for a kitchenette check the Holiday Inn we stayed there before and it was fantastic.

I always check hotels in Tripadvisor before booking, but this time I did it thru Hotwire so I didn't know, otherwise I wouldn't had ever booked this hotel. If you read all the negative reviews you found here they are true, sadly for the hotel ownership and employees, yes, all those awful thing everybody say here, they are TRUTH!.
I can't complain about unconformtable room or dirty or cement furniture, because the Jr Suite we had was actually huge and comfortable, noisy A/C unit (because it is old) and the safe box was broken, the TV had permanent white snow, and the sofa bed where our kids slept was terrible and had a big smudge; other than that everything was kind of fine, we had a huge king bed and it was comfortable, the room was clean, no mold, or anything. They could use a linen change and the decór is cheesy.
The main problem here is poor management and lack of common sense. Employees at the front desk are rude and not wearing proper clothing. There are old worn mops and brooms by the aisles right outside our room. They play loud, but really loud, nightclub style music by the pool which is completely annoying and totally out of place. The extremely stupid issue and biggest bummer : they rent the pool area to make birthday parties for kids, yes, you read it right, isn't this supposed to be a fine beachfront hotel in one of Mexico's top resort destinations? ... so the swimming pool was crowded on Saturday and Sunday with locals and a zillion kids. It was unbearable.
We never dined or had any meal at the restaurant after reading all the terrible reviews, but we ordered coffee and guess what? , it was terrible!!! how can they make such bad coffee, I am not exaggerating, that wasn't coffee, I don't know what we were drinking. We opted to other places, like Pueblo Bonito, which is cute and way better but the food wasn't that great either, you better do the drive or take a bus or taxi for Panama Cafe like one mile south for a decent meal (but this place is so popular that is crowded and noisy, with toddlers and babies crying all over, so beware).
If they turn the stupid music off and if it weren't crowded the pool would be nice.
The hotel is located in a great beach, good for families not for surfing. The color of the sand it is not because is dirty, whoever said this here is an ignorant.
I feel said that an idiot or a group of idiots spoil foreign tourists vacations and at the end affect the entire Tourist Industry in a place so needed of money, jobs, and investment. It is a shame. I love Mazatlan, it is a truly hidden gem in Mexico's West Coast, there's no other resort town with such a great architecture like Mazatlan's Historic Centre, not Puerto Vallarta, neither Acapulco (hell, no!), not Los Cabos or La Paz, or Ixtapa. Neither the Caribbean. The town has potential; the city should be doing something with idiots like the manager of this hotel who spoil it all.

Everything was ok with reservation, we knew it was a low season but they didnt tell us the hotel was being under reconstruction in the first 6 floors, so they still opened the hotel for the 7th and 8th floors, so you could imagine the rest. No water at all everyday during 1-2 hours in the afternoon (always due some worker has broken some water tubes), all the hotel was plenty of dust and noise during the day, elevator didnt work correctly. You could be asking why we stayed there with all these inconvenients, well, the room was ok, and our 1 year baby enjoyed the pool and beach a lot... as well we were looking for a place with kitchenette, and this was the only one we found...
The incredible thing is how they can open to public when they have the hotel 70% under refurbishment !!! this talks about how they dont care about their guests.
Never again!!!

We decided to try a three star Mexican hotel without the all-inclusive. Yes, we stayed at the Luna Palace. It was quite funny when we were dropped off by our shuttle- a girl behind us with her mom could be heard saying, "is our hotel going to be nicer than this??"
Well, here was the adventure. The front desk lady was as cold as cold could get. She barely looked up. Our room was on the fifth floor (5007)and had a bit of the a view of the ocean-there was a big palm tree covering 1/2 of the view. We could see that other rooms would have excellent views (especially if you are higher up). The room was as I expected. Musty and corners with built up skudge. However, the beds were clean and no signs of vermin anywhere. The room was a studio suite but was large with locked up kitchen cupboards but a very good fridge. Air conditioning was loud but worked well. The TV had iffy reception but plenty of stations (mostly in spanish) You have to put a deposit down for the TV remote, keys to the cupboards, and the safe in the closet. The total cost of the deposit is $70 US. We decided to pass on this. The pool area is really quite nice and the pool has this cool part that is actually more than six feet deep. The beach has dark sand and is not the most beautiful part of the Mazaltan beaches but there are palalpas the it t was fine and there were great sunsets. We did receive good cleaning services (tip these ladies- it makes a difference) and always received clean towels. (I mean the cleaning staff cannot renovate the room). We never ate at the resort and did not make use of room service. There are a multitude of great restaurants for ridiculously low prices just down the street, some right on the beach and some on the street behind the hotel. If you are in reasonable shape, it is easy to walk to the heart of Mazatlan and busses are easy to access. I recommend Balboa Club Restaurant (great view), one across the road where you go up a flight of stairs (amazingly they put on a fiesta show along with the meal) The three right on the beach near the Oceano. Wish I was good with names. For a special evening, the beautiful restaurant right next door at Pueblo Bonito is lovely. A warning- our hotel as well as the Oceano Palace (owned by the same familY) decided that part of the experience at their hotels should be ridiculously loud piped in music off huge speakers by the pools.. One day, I thought I was going to lose my mind. I heard Queen's Greatest Hits over and over. It was so loud, you could never decide to go to your room. It would boom everywhere from the beach to the room. I was beside myself. At most of the other hotels, we did not find this (with the exception of the two days of Easter weekend) Also, beware, Easter is Party time and Mazatlan is packed and LOUD for two days. The good news is that by Easter Monday, it settles down so I found it sick that our hotel continued to blast music throughout the week.
We did not find that there really was any sense of service at our hotel. No one asked if we would like a drink, food, etc. The front desk did not even say hello. It may have been due to a language barrier but.... even I know how to say Hola. We did completely enjoy staff at all of the restaurants we ate at--Canadian staff could learn a lot from the Mexican workers. It is important to know that these people are paid the equivilant of about 80 cents an hour and when you are getting fabulolus meals from such gracious staff, I would feel terrible not tipping generously. Generally, loved Mazatlan and would stay at Luna again if it was an amazing rate. Not a type of accomodation that you can't wait to get back to at night but it was all right.
