We've spent a week at Torres Mazatlan in 2005 and 2006 and regret not coming back in 2007. We loved this resort! It's a little off the beaten path and that's what made it for us. We wanted relaxation and we got it. We spent most of our days under the cabanas reading, sleeping, enjoying happy hour (you've GOT to try the mango daiquiris!) and cooling off in the beautiful pool.
The rooms are comfortable and well equipped.
Some notes: a taxi ride to and from the airport will cost you $25 each way. There are pulmonias (golf carts) zipping around everywhere, as well as an extensive bus system which stops right in front of the resort. You can ride to the Golden Zone for as little as 5 or 6 pesos. Make sure you find out what the pulmonia driver charges before getting in.
Take the city tour. It goes to El Mercado where the locals shop, a beautiful old cathedral, pearl diving cliffs (like Acapulco).
Thursdays is when the cruise ships come in, so that is a good day NOT TO SHOP! The prices in town go way up. Other than that, Mazatlan is a great place to go.
Like I said, we regret not going back this year.
