“NICE PICTURES IN THE ADS, BUT... VERY AVERAGE HOTEL”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

Let me say that I booked this hotel based on the pictures on the site that I usually use when booking places to stay. Yes, the pictures are accurate, but they do not reflect the main areas of the hotel. This is a three star hotel, so don’t expect anything else, like I did.

Having high expectations on arriving here, let me say the following:

POSITIVE POINTS:
The staff is fantastic, and that is as simple as it gets.

Also great are the main outside areas, looking very modern and inviting. I really liked the lobby area, the main entrace and the area around the pool. At night, there is a nice vibe around the pool bar, with a lively atmosphere.

The restaurant has a good choice of food, and again… the staff is amazing. Thanks for that!!!

The hotel is well situated in the town, walking distance from some nice clubs, like Valentino. Also on the beach… so relaxing in the late afternoon.

I would say that the room is a decent size, and yes… it is comfortable. However, this is where my positive points stop.

NEGATIVE POINTS:
Internet is free, but the connection TERRIBLY IRREGULAR. Couldn’t work, since it did not keep connection more than 10 minutes at a time. Cannot understand why hotels save money on essential points.

Bathroom is terribly worn and dated, in desperate need of renovation. Shower pressure is not bad… it is pathetic, and variation of temperature was terrible. You couldn’t stand there for more than 10 seconds at a time trying to find the correct temperature. When you think you got it… it changes.

There are many bars and clubs around the hotel, and with parties going on all night… it is difficult to sleep peacefully. This IS the hotel’s fault, since the sound isolation is of their responsibility. Difficult to sleep before 1 am.

The hotel looks modern in the lobby and main entrance, but walking to the room and in the room, it becomes clear that this hotel is in desperate need of renovation.

Hotel cleaning is not one of the hotel’s strong point, I should add.

SUMMING UP:
There are better options in Mazatlan. I just did not know about them… NOW I DO.
I do not think I would return to this hotel. Solve the problem of soundproofing the rooms, and get the bathroom up to speed with THIS century… maybe, just MAYBE, I could consider coming back. Pretty pictures can be misleading… and this is one of those cases.

Room Tip: I don't know if there is such a thing, but TRY asking for a quiet room.

We check in and as usual I go through a tavel agency so I don't have to wait so much checking in. Well in this instance it all went bad. They charged me for three times and they said it was a mix up and I had my confirmation number and email as proof that ir had been paid in full. I had to talk to the manager and even then they still charged me. At this point I was very upset and did not like the customer service. Not the room rate was ok but the bathrooms are very outdated and small. The pool area was ok and only is nice if not o many people cause they have reduced seats and chairs. The pool and beach bar service had nothing at all. No servers and one had to go get there own drinks very bad for being a know chain. Don't recomend it only as a last resort.

We stayed from March 15, 2014 for 2 nights. We choosed there, because our friend had a party there.
We had problem in check in, because we booked as master junior suites, but they send us standard room. It is very common to have this kind of mistake in Mexico, even you argued, they can not do anything.
We asked iron to our room, which took more than 30 mins until we request again. So as room service was slow. The stuffs were ok, but not very helpful, except only one lady who brought the foods to our room.
However, the view from their restaurant was maginficent. If you can get the table along the beach side, you can enjoy seeing beautiful view and breeze. Also good point of this hotel, there is the plaza in front of the hotel including some restaurants and the street is facing to many shops and restaurants as well.
The room is fair. But I had problem about smell of the pillow. I am not picky usually, but I could not stand this smell.

Seriously do they have a shortage in towels???? The room rate should cover the shortage.a family of 4 needs 4 towels so why such a big fuss in getting 4 towels. Not to say trying to get 4 pool towels! I had to carry( from room to pool) the 4 wet towels used the nite before to get 4 new ones. This hotel has so much potential but the GM is not doing much about it! What a shame!!!!!!!

You will not be in the room much if you are a true traveler. The place was pretty nice. It was an expensive room. We wanted the ocean view but it was way over priced as well.

The breakfast was great! The dinner and happy hour was fairly cheap. Nice staff in the kitchen.

Would I stay here again? Maybe.

The place was bad from the start, very overpriced, average to ugly room, slow service. The did not clean the room until we called and it was around 4pm. Too much noise, very bad parking and valet service, overall you pay too much for what you get.

I have come to the emporia on multiple occasions...the only thing I have to say is that they have a hot water problem. Taking a shower with a constant water temperature is impossible...if someone else in the hotel uses hot or cold water (not sure what the issue is) the water temp jumps drastically.,..EVEN with this problem i love the staff, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the location on the private beach with their pool and great restaurant on the beach makes it one of my favorite hotels in mazatlan.

Room Tip: they have better king size beds available but if you´re traveling solo there´s no need to get a room...
