As a longtime visitor and owner to The Inn at Mazatlan, we have become incresingly dissapointed in the quality of the hotel.
As others have mentioned, the new tower is beautiful and a cornerstone of the resorts timeshare presentations. But staying in the oldest "Maya" tower or the "Inca" is less than desirable.
The Maya tower is in the process of being renovated but this just brings it up to par with other "so so" hotels like Pueblo Bonita and Costa DeOro. We have always felt the Inn was a big leap above the other hotels in town.
The Inca tower was always nice to stay in despite only having one elevator. Sadly, the rooms are in desperate need of overhauling. The management will explain that they maintain the units in the first week of January but there is no excuse for beds with plywood between the mattreses and eggcrate foam added ontop of the bed. My husband (59 years old) had to spend the week on the livingroom foam coach bed.
The refridgerator froze over, stove darn near electricuted me because of a short and energy-saving flourescent bulbs were burnt out. Requests for new bulbs and to fix the beds went unanswered. They did fix the stove right away. And don't forget to return the pool towels or they will be knocking on your door at 8:00am (despite the do not disturb sign).
The menu at the restaurant has declined and prices have gone up.
The Inn has joined the other hotels in offering wireless access from your room, though the service is still spotty. I must compliment the internet guy who is working the bus out of the system as it has only been up for one month.
If you want to get a lounge chair around the pool you better get it by 9:00am as people tend to put their towels out early and hog the space all day. even though management says they will move your towels if you are not using them we were unable to get chairs
or lounges for many of the days.
Sadly to say we are contemplating selling our five weeks at the Inn after watching the decline over the past few years.
I would reccomend others to check out Royal Villas or Emerald Bay. These are classy hotels.
I am not going to reccomend restaurants as the other reviews are quite accurate. I will add that excellant coffee can be had at "Ricco's" across the street.
