“Had a great time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2009

My wife and I just got back from Las flores. After reading some very mixed reviews I was a little hesitant, however the place turned out to be quite nice.We never ate there so I can`y comment on the food, but the drinks were great. We looked at several rooms and upgraded to a master suite for 150.00 well worth it.Would I return, only if the rate was decent,I did prefer the Playa when I stayed there. But honestly nothing bad to say staff were very nice(laid back).Rooms were clean and really that is a main concern for us.

Just returned from our third stay at Las Flores and still think it's a great place to stay in Mazatlan. We get an ocean view suite with a kitchenette on a lower floor so we can use the stairs. The food and drinks at the hotel are great but a bit pricey. This is not a fancy resort but it's very clean and the location is fantastic. Pools are cold and the hot tub is luke warm but we are beach people so these flaws are not of concern to us. There are many great restaurants and places to shop close by. Banks and buses are within walking distance and there are always palmonias right outside the door. Las Flores has staff and guests who've been working and coming there for many, many years and we will continue to stay there when we visit Mazatlan.

First of all, I'm not too finicky about hotels. Some of the furnishings were a little out of date, but everything was clean, the location is great, and it's affordable.

I had good experiences with the staff at the hotel. We didn't use the pools at all and were in the ocean the whole time. The beach is supreme and super close to the hotel and the view from our oceanfront room was amazing. We had our windows wide open whenever we were in the room (in March) and the breeze and sound of the ocean were great. The kitchen was perfect--we shopped at the beginning of a week long trip and cooked about half of our meals.

Immediately outside the hotel are a bunch of touristy shops and restaurants and people from cruise ships crowd into them. We avoided this area completely, and were able to walk to all sorts of other great places. We ate and Panama a lot (maybe 2 blocks away) and I can't recommend this place enough.

There was a super noisy disco on same street that was loud maybe every 2nd or 3rd day, but we got over it--and we stayed up late anyway

  • Liked — View from room and proximity to great beach.
  • Disliked — Nothing comes to mind.

I just got back from a week’s stay at Las Flores and after reading some of the reviews here; I thought I was going to have a rough week. Thankfully, the experience was much better than anticipated.

First of all the location was perfect. Convenient to everything. The room was clean and we quickly figured out a way to address the bad bed problem, our room had two beds so we took the second mattress and threw it on top of our bed-worked perfectly and from the reaction of the maid, not a novel idea.

The staff was amazing, friendly and great service. Only problem was when the cruise ships were in, they sometimes forgot about the regular guests.

Definitely worth the price and I would recommend it

Way over priced for outdated sheets, beds, kitchen and overall facitlities. At the price we paid we could have stayed at a much nicer resort. I would not pay anymore than $75 USD per night to stay at Las Flores in the future as you can get ten times better for $120 per night at other locations.

We are RCI members, and had a "Master Suite." We were there a week (husband and I). We love Mazatlan and visit there 1-2 times per year for many years. Having said that, here is a review of our stay:
(1) Martin is a great doorman, and the singing Esther always cleaning the lobby was also wonderful. View to ocean is awesome too, and microwave, refrig & stove top were nice.

(2) Front desk staff are friendly but can't do much with issues

(3) Manager Esther Lopez seemed more caring, but there were issues. First of all, on check-in our room smelled horrible, like sewer gases. we traced the awful smell to the bathroom where there is a strange anteroom with pipes coming to the purified water spigot in hall (which we refused to drink from) and the A/C to our room. The pipes were dripping green moldy-looking liquid. Also, in the room the A/C blows straight onto the beds, but the black mold in the vents kept us from using the A/C till I called the maintenance department in the am. I spoke to them very forcefully in Spanish, and stood there while they removed the vents, apologized, and cleaned out the vents and pipes. The beds are very hard, but another trip to the front desk and forceful Spanish to request bed toppers, along with catching the maid as she came to clean our room, denying she knew anything about the request (the toppers help a lot). Also, we went to use the hot tub, only to find it filled with babies and toddlers without any diapers (although signs posted state that no one under 16 years is to use the hot tub). The security guards stood by allowing the babies in the hot tub. I complained every day for 4 days, every day being told the pool had been emptied and was ready to use. Finally on the fourth day, I found a manager Esther and asked her to come see the hot tub. It was so gross, smelled like a funky dirty locker room, was cloudy and disgusting. She agreed and stated that the guards would enforce the rules, but when the cruise ships came and locals came, everyone again went in hot tub, which had been emptied and refilled so water was cold. By end of day hot tub was again gross and unhealthy. After sleeping in hard bed and walking a lot, these old bones would have enjoyed a dip in the hot tub, but not in that petri dish of disgust.
(4) Finally on the last night, we were sound asleep when we were awakened at 1:00 am by a loud band concert right outside the room on the beach (mind you we were on the 8th floor with all doors and windows closed). There was a sousaphone, trombones, trumpets, drums, and cymbals playing a LOUD Mexican polka type music really poorly. We called downstairs several times, and finally at 2:00 am I asked how we could call the policia. They called them for me, and they came after another 15-20 minutes and dispersed the band and party. As soon as they left, the drummer played on till 3:30 am.
We love Mazatlan, and the location of Las Flores is perfect, but there are major issues with public health concerns that should not be occurring in this type of resort.

My girlfriends and I have been staying at Las Flores for years. Last year a friend and I purchased a 5 year timeshare there. This was the first year we stayed in it. I only wish we could have stayed longer than one week. We always have a great time in Mazatlan and at Las Flores. We even request our same maid every year and tip her generously. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. Our "family" who work on the beach have known us for 15 years. Some people come and go, but there is always somebody we know and they are so happy to see us. Las Flores has the best spot on the beach with Pancho's restaurant close by.

  • Liked — The location, the friends and relaxation.
  • Disliked — The cold pools.
