Spent two weeks June 2009 on our second visit to Costa de Oro and very likely will go back again. This is an older facility but kept in good repair and with a seasoned and responsive staff. In fact, many have been with them for years, a good recommendation in itself. Rooms are clean and quite roomy, particularily the units with kitchenettes. There are three buildings, two high-rise with "suite style" units boasting beach views and a third lateral low-rise that is more hotel-style with limited (but still pleasant) views. Several reviewers have already commented on the generous bathrooms & plenty of free-flowing hot water in the showers.
The dining facility has both semi-enclosed and open patio seating, food is consistently good. Bar service is fine, the afternoon 2-for-1 happy hour poolside is popular. As others have noted, there is a plethora of good eating nearby if you get bored.
There is a library/internet room available, and the hotel's wi-fi is usable in that area, the lobby, and in limited portions of the pool and restaurant areas. Coverage is limited however, so don't expect it in your room.
We're older folks whose party-time ends early, so a reasonably quiet late-evening environment is a must. Costa de Oro qualifies, although bass notes of the music from "Gus-Gus", an eating place across the street, are audible until near midnight. We didn't find it a problem but we were in a room more distant than some.
All in all, this is an excellent and reasonably priced choice for your stay in Mazatlan.
