“Rates a solid "Very Good"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2009

Spent two weeks June 2009 on our second visit to Costa de Oro and very likely will go back again. This is an older facility but kept in good repair and with a seasoned and responsive staff. In fact, many have been with them for years, a good recommendation in itself. Rooms are clean and quite roomy, particularily the units with kitchenettes. There are three buildings, two high-rise with "suite style" units boasting beach views and a third lateral low-rise that is more hotel-style with limited (but still pleasant) views. Several reviewers have already commented on the generous bathrooms & plenty of free-flowing hot water in the showers.
The dining facility has both semi-enclosed and open patio seating, food is consistently good. Bar service is fine, the afternoon 2-for-1 happy hour poolside is popular. As others have noted, there is a plethora of good eating nearby if you get bored.
There is a library/internet room available, and the hotel's wi-fi is usable in that area, the lobby, and in limited portions of the pool and restaurant areas. Coverage is limited however, so don't expect it in your room.
We're older folks whose party-time ends early, so a reasonably quiet late-evening environment is a must. Costa de Oro qualifies, although bass notes of the music from "Gus-Gus", an eating place across the street, are audible until near midnight. We didn't find it a problem but we were in a room more distant than some.
All in all, this is an excellent and reasonably priced choice for your stay in Mazatlan.

We love this place. What they post in their website is the actual what to expect of the beach hotel. The staff is friendly, huge food serving and especially for kids sharing is good to avoid waste even you're all inclusive. You are facing the two islands from the Adobe restaurant, pool bar, beach and you get to see the beautiful sunset in any angle. We had two beds in our room, tv with remote, the back is garden and the front is overlooking the pool and the beach. We loved it family friendly atmosphere, manageable price, convenient. It was our first time in Mazatlan and it was a great experience.

We stayed there for 2 weeks in March, and look foward to our trip next year! The only problem was with ants, so they gave us a can of raid!I read complaints about the mattresses, but they were all replaced while we were there.

Winnipeg
Stayed at Costa-De-Oro, great place, right in the middle of all the action, you can walk right from the hotel to the golden zone (by the Playa) or left to Senior Frogs, Fat Fish, Georges, or the Purple Onion.
We arrived March 12, 2009 for two weeks. We we all inclusive but planned on eating in 4 days and out 3. We only ate out one day due to the great La-a-carte lunches and dinners. I couldn't get away from the kbobs or fajita's for dinner and the chicken strips and club house sandwiches for lunch. The rooms were nothing special but I loved the showers, who said they don't have water pressure in Mexico? I love showers with lots of pressure.
The staff were great (loved Santo's) and always pleasent, we joked with most of them. I know one of the people in our group made an impresion when one of the waiters introduced his daughter to him. The drinks were great, they make the best caesars ever. You know you've had a few when the bartendar know's your drink before you get to the bar.
If you happen to be down during spring break and need to get away take the Sablo Centro to the ferry and for $2 the water taxi will take you across to Stone Island. Walk down to Victors (you will see the life guard stand). There were six of us, we had some food and drank for 5 hours and our bill was $34 (Canadian).
Gus Gus was across the street, great place to go after the bar closed at 10:00pm.
George's had great Ribeye's on Wednesday.
Gringo Lingo's was a little slow (due to economy?)
All of these resraurants had live bands.
All the restaurants in the area are good.
I believe the best is to go all incusive, we paid about $20 extra per day for this. You could have breakfast, lunch and a few drinks and you would be saving money. Our bar bill would have been $100 and our meals at least $40 per couple per day.
I will definitely be back to this hotel

We stayed here 10 days at the end of February. We were in room 351 of the 4 story low rise section. I reccomend not staying in this room. It is very near the waterfall and they turn it on at 830am and it is very noisy, so if you plan on sleeping in late, you are out of luck. The hotel is OK. It is nothing fancy but it is one of the cheaper hotels that is beachfront and has a decent pool and jacuzzi with water that is not exactly hot. Beers are 35 pesos at the pool but if you go to the hotel convenience store they are only 12 pesos. The room was fairly basic and not much of a view out the window, but the shower was huge and the water always hot. Mr Coco's nearby has a cheap breakfast and Gus Gus is across the street and has bands playing most nights. The pool is nice but the scene was a little weak, seems to attract an older crowd, lots of retirees.

Stayed here for another 2 week this year and loved it. I requested a special room and it was waiting for me when i got there. The rooms are out dtaed but to me that is part of the charm of this place. The maids did a wonderfull job cleaning the rooms and doing the little things i liked. Service was wonderfull around the pool. they never left me wanting or waiting. The food was hot and declicious weahter at the resurtant or at the pool. I would most definatly recomend this hotel and I do.

My wife and friends just got back from here. There are really two resorts here. One is the timeshare towers and the other the hotel rooms. First the timeshares which appeared to be nice but according to some owners the upkeep is not really good. They appeared to be very nice however. We stayed in the hotel side and were not thrilled with the room. I would say it would be something one would use on springbreak. The walls were white and in need of painting, no pictures, furniture abused, lights that didn't work, poor TV that kept turning off by itself, broken shower door. This place needs some TLC to get back to a good standard. Listed as a 3 star hotel and I wouldn't give it a 1 star.
We have been traveling to Mazatlan for 10years and this is the worst hotel we have stayed in. The Holiday Inn is much better and that is listed as a 2.5 star.
Location was very good and easy to walk most places and it was quiet with good security during Carnival. Food and service were very good. Pool is nice but not above average. Overall I can't give this place a thumbs up. I will return to the Holiday Inn where the rooms are nicer, pool nicer and less people.
