“Best Place for Relaxation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

Just booked our 3rd trip to Mazatlan and our 3rd time at the El Cid Marina! We wouldn't stay anywhere else. Hopefully we will get our request for the same room as last time we stayed Room 144! The friendly staff make you feel like family. The rooms are big and very clean..food is good with lots of options. The breakfast buffet is the best and you can't beat the room service. The all inclusive is totally worth it! This hotel is quiet compared to being in town, but you have the option of going to their sisters properties which is fun for a change of pace. Great Massages at Country Club -- the water taxi to the quiet beach is a plus. Transfers to sister hotels is free and very convenient. The beds are a little hard, but we just used the comforter as extra cushion and it was fine. Fidel does an awesome job and went the extra mile for my 40th birthday celebration..this year we will be celebrating another birthday and a 25 year anniversary. Can't wait till December to go back!

Room Tip: We were lucky enough to get room 144 last trip and hope to get it again. It's a corner room wit...

Overall this is an excellent hotel with outstanding customer service but there are things that people should know before choosing to stay here or they could be really disappointed. This hotel is not right on the beach but has a lovely view of the Marina. There are some Ocean view rooms but those are quite a walk from the main building. To get to the beach you have to take a boat across the Marina. It is really very easy and we never had to wait but if you are an early bird and want to go for a 6 am walk on the beach, you cannot access it. It is also not a great swimming beach. I go to Mazatlan a lot and usually stay in condos on this same beach and I never swim in the ocean here. The red flags are always flying and this time there were jelly fish flags up. We saw a lot of jelly fish washed up on shore as we walked the beach. Who needs to swim in the ocean when you have a great pool and fabulous pool service? Ocean swimming is not important to me so we were quite happy with this arrangement.

As for the location, for us it was great because we had family members staying in condos on the other side of the marina. It was a short trip on the boat to meet up with them. However, if you need to be in the heart of things this is not really the place. It is a nice family place or great for couples but definitely not a party place.

Last but not least, we would stay here again except for one thing. The mattress in our room sat on top of a cement slab. As you can imagine it was very firm. This did not bother my husband but it was really hard on me. I slept poorly the entire time I was there. I did not ever complain or ask to switch because we were there for such a short time and really every thing else was great. Our room was huge with a separate living area from the bedroom and a nice kitchenette. The furniture in these rooms are actually built into the room so you have a rock couch with cushions on it and a rock bed with a mattress on top. It would be worth asking if they have other rooms with furniture that isn't quite so prehistoric. My in-laws asked if they still had the "Flintstone" furniture.

Don't miss the Sunday brunch! It was the best brunch i've ever had!

My daughter-in-law Laurie G. has covered most of our experience but just wanted to compliment all the staff especially Fidel and Ramon at the Iguana bar. Lupita for her friendly smile and making my breakfast so good! Jose Luis our waiter at dinner was terrific! He made Adam and Laurie's anniversary on Jan. 25th special with his "surprise" . So many great things about this resort, I loved the little water taxi ride to the private beach. The beach was clean and the couple of vendors were not pushy. I have to mention the restrooms close to the beach and poolside, clean, modern and new. Best I've seen. Our experience on arrival was the only disappointment. Having been up all night for an early morning flight out of Toronto we arrived at the resort at 11:30 a.m. no bracelets until 1:00 p.m. ? They need to change that policy! That being said, we loved El Cid Marina resort, we do plan to go back and would recommend this resort. Thank you all! Sandie G.

Just back from spending a week here with family (4 adults and my 8 yr old son). This hotel is like nothing we have ever experienced before (9th time for us in Mexico coast to coast but 1st time in Mazatlan) . The scenery and atmosphere are just stunning! This is an older hotel but it is kept very clean and has everything you could possibly need. Very convenient for the 2 fishing charters my husband and Father in Law went on (they were so happy to catch marlin and a sailfish!). Also, if you are a golfer you will enjoy the 5 minute free shuttle over to the golf course.
We had adjoining rooms very close to the far pool which were just awesome because we could just pop back up to the room for anything that we might have forgotten. At night time the fellows were there with their golf carts to bring us down to dinner if we were wearing heels or just plain lazy :-)
The food was always very plentiful. Breakfast was always just so delicious (Lupita makes some killer eggs), For Lunch we always ate poolside (2 different menus for both pools) guacamole, coconut shrimp, onion rings and fajitas to die for and for dinner always a delicious buffet and fabulous surf/turf, lasagne off the menu. The best waiter for dinner was always Jose Louis. What a lovely man. Just took care of all our needs!
The drinks were always delicious and the waiters poolside were always there making sure you would not go thirsty! Ramon, Fidel, Jorge, Miguel, Abraham you guys are simply the best! Service like no other....just awesome! Also try Josue's mudslides. Just delicious. They can also make smoothies for the kids without alcohol which my son really enjoyed the banana one.
There are gift shops and also a supermarket type store with everything you could need. We purchased some water and milk to make coffee in our room for the early morning sunrises. Just stunning to watch the boats all go out for the day. Very relaxing.
This is ultimately the best place for relaxing and just simply chilling out. Not a lot going on a night (I guess you could go to the other El Cid properties by shuttle for night life if you wanted to) but we never minded. We were happy just to enjoy the quiet. That being said if you are young and looking for a happening hotel this is not it!
The only negative I have to say is upon check in (after traveling from 2am in the morning) they had us wait until 1pm for our all inclusive bracelets (we were thirsty and hungry so we ended up grabbing some beverages and snacks at the store). I get that our room is not ready and ck in is 3pm, but any resort we have travelled to gives you your bracelet and then you can at least grab a snack and wait for your room. We left at 7:15am the morning of our departure so we didn't get the all inclusive for that day...just saying I think it balances out. The fellows looking after our bags did give us a bottle of water each which was quickly consumed!
The bottles of water in the room are part of their conservation effort so if you don't want to pay $1 for your water just ask the waiters for bottles of water at your meals/poolside. They will happily give you plenty.
Take some time to go over to the other El Cid properties and check things out in town. But the marina hotel is by far the best.

Room Tip: We were close to the far pool with a walk up which is very handy.

Dear Laurie G

How great it is to hear that it was your first time in Mazatlan and we had the pleasure to host you and your family. From your review I can see that you guys had a great experience and were also able to enjoy some of the many activities we have to offer such as Fishing. We take every precaution and maintenance to ensure a wonderful and luxurious stay and I’m glad that was what we were able to provide for you. Ramon, Fidel, Jorge, Miguel, and Abraham will be congratulated on their hard labor for the exemplary service provided. In regards to the food how great that you had an opportunity to try our selection of restaurants and they fit your standards we always try and modify our menus as often as we can so we can have a verity of options for everyone to enjoy. We hope in a near future we yet again have the privilege to host you and your family once more and make this a go on tradition.

Kind regards,

Each visit at the Marina El Cid just keeps getting better and better! We can't say enough about the service and the kind attention we continue to receive from all departments, from reception to the bell boys to the waiters at the pool and dining room. It's that personalized attention that makes the Marina stand out from other resorts: that Martin remembers our 3 favorite songs and plays them for us without us even asking or reminding him from the year before!; that Javier, Daniel, Cesar and Jose Luis go out of their way to warmly greet us each time we go to dinner and provide excellent service each time; that Fidel and his crew always look for ways to anticipate our needs, give us a different dining experience and make us feel so welcome; that Jorge remembers our favorite little snacks and is always touching base with us to see if there's anything we need; that the dining room chefs prepare our freshly caught atun and dorado in different methods, always beautifully presented. We love how relaxing this resort is, the beauty of the spectacular sunsets and the ability to enjoy long walks along the beach or down to the Golden Zone. But it is the warmth of the people here who have us looking forward to each visit. They truly make us feel like family and that the Marina is our second home!

I cannot say enough about the staff at Marina El CID. They are the most wonderful and kind people around. We have been there 15 years in a row and go back because of the people. The scenery is just an added benefit.

Olivia Vazquez provides superior housekeeping services and treats us like family. The bellman are fantastic and make us feel like royalty. Special thanks to Valerio, Jose R., Avisensio, Rafael, Israel, Freddy, And Jesus.

It starts when we check in and Luis always remembers us and then we know we are back. Also special thanks to Javier and Fidel for serving us great food and drinks with lots of fun and service.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the large lagoon pool are fantastic!
