Overall this is an excellent hotel with outstanding customer service but there are things that people should know before choosing to stay here or they could be really disappointed. This hotel is not right on the beach but has a lovely view of the Marina. There are some Ocean view rooms but those are quite a walk from the main building. To get to the beach you have to take a boat across the Marina. It is really very easy and we never had to wait but if you are an early bird and want to go for a 6 am walk on the beach, you cannot access it. It is also not a great swimming beach. I go to Mazatlan a lot and usually stay in condos on this same beach and I never swim in the ocean here. The red flags are always flying and this time there were jelly fish flags up. We saw a lot of jelly fish washed up on shore as we walked the beach. Who needs to swim in the ocean when you have a great pool and fabulous pool service? Ocean swimming is not important to me so we were quite happy with this arrangement.
As for the location, for us it was great because we had family members staying in condos on the other side of the marina. It was a short trip on the boat to meet up with them. However, if you need to be in the heart of things this is not really the place. It is a nice family place or great for couples but definitely not a party place.
Last but not least, we would stay here again except for one thing. The mattress in our room sat on top of a cement slab. As you can imagine it was very firm. This did not bother my husband but it was really hard on me. I slept poorly the entire time I was there. I did not ever complain or ask to switch because we were there for such a short time and really every thing else was great. Our room was huge with a separate living area from the bedroom and a nice kitchenette. The furniture in these rooms are actually built into the room so you have a rock couch with cushions on it and a rock bed with a mattress on top. It would be worth asking if they have other rooms with furniture that isn't quite so prehistoric. My in-laws asked if they still had the "Flintstone" furniture.
Don't miss the Sunday brunch! It was the best brunch i've ever had!
