“The El Cid Marina Resort and Golf Destination in Mazatlan a Red Carpet Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

We are extending a big thank you to the BC Golf Guide.com, Ross Marrington for suggesting the El Cid for our post Christmas vacation and Golf break. We were under the care and attention of Jorge Zendejas Valdes from the moment we arrived.... greated personally by Jorge and Andres. They made sure that our accomodations were in order, lining up transport to the golf courses along with making reservations for us at the other El Cid resorts in Mazatlan. There was never a time when we were worried about our safety as all the arrangements that were made for us, insured that all our needs were taken care of with our best interests at heart. Whether early in the morning or late at night we had personalized valet service including pick-up to and from our resort. Our suite was bar none perfectly located with an unbelievable view, easy access to the pools, hot tub and bars. Service was excellent and most times, we did not need to order....the drinks just came! We thank Fidel and Edy for their wonderful service poolside. We would like to thank our room attendant, Lupita for her wonderful floral and animal decorations and excellent care and attention to the room. Don't hesitate to use the laundry service, they do an exceptional job. Early morning breakfasts at the restaurant were excellent.Room service was timely with a smile. Awesome omelettes made by Lupita! Francisco was our waiter in the morning and Daniel in the evening, their attention to our detailed ordering which involved combining to customize dishes off the al la carte menu ( combining Lobster Thermadore and a variety of steaks to mix and match along with a fabulous full avacodo and shrimp starter was primo. chateau-briande for two just to name a few) where not only delicious but decorative in there presentation. Many of our late evening dinners were also accompanied by live music, quality attention and a variety of premium drinks and fine wines. The meals were delicious. We golfed five times in the seven days while there, three times at the El Cid Golf and Country Club and at Estrella de Mar, an oceanside golf course and the Marina Golf course. Miguel was our caddy at the G&CC for the three days we golfed, our clubs and personal equipment from the time we met till the completion of our rounds were in his care, having a personable and polite caddy only added to a wonderful golf trip.
A special thank you to Andres, who took us site seeing on his day off, with my final night at Lorenzo's where we had a fabulous Lobster-Seafood dinner accompanied by live music and wonderful evening view of the Mazatlan from a ocean-side view. I have never been treated so well and we will look forward to coming back to the El Cid Marina Resort in the future.
My travel companion has been to Mazatlan before and this was one of his best stays in Mexico to date. Ken thanks Ross and Jorge and his staff for a great time! We look forward to planning another trip through Ross...cheers to our Red Carpet Experience :)

Room Tip: ask for an ocean view, sleep with the window open and listen to the waves crashing

We stayed at the Marina from Dec 26/11 till Jan 9/12. What an awesome 2 weeks! The service at the pools and restaurant was excellent. Maritza and Marcella kept us all busy with activities at the pool each day. Waiters Rigo, Daniel, Angel, Ceasar, Fidel, Carlos, Juan Carlos, Miguel, and Jesus kept us filled up on food and drinks throughout the day and night! Dinner at the restaurant was always enjoyable, whether it be piano music and singing, or flamming bananas for dessert, we were always entertained in some way. The entire staff at the Marina were always pleasant and helpful. We will definitely be making a return trip to the Marina.

We stayed at El Cid Marina the week before Christmas 2011 and was just what we needed. It has everything you expect from an all-inclusive (private beach, nonstop drinks, a couple of pools) but what sets this place apart is the staff. We have never been treated better at a resort and everyone always had a smile and willing to help make any part of our Mazatlan stay more enjoyable. Eddy and Fidel at the pool made sure we were taken care of and Jorge always made sure we had what we needed. The kitchen staff were also always accommodating in preparing whatever we needed or to answer any questions.

The resort itself is smaller than the mega resorts some vacationers are accustomed to, which for us is what we wanted, so if you're looking for a place to party and drink all night, this isn't it. Though you will have access to the other El Cid resorts (quick free shuttle or about 20 min walk south into the Golden Zone) and some of their bars stay open until 1am. Aside from the pool bars, Marina has one bar and one restaurant, but again, check out the other El Cids. The food ranges from so-so buffets to excellent steaks at the Argentinian restaurant. Get yourself situated with which restaurants are open when if you want to plan ahead.

We got spoiled with the room offered to us, a 1-bedroom in the tower with ocean view. It was luck of the draw, really, as the room was available when we checked in. From what we saw of the other rooms, they all have kitchenettes and range in size, but none would be considered small. All rooms either face the marina or the ocean (if you can't get a tower room, try for a higher floor) so you'll always have a view of water.

Note that the private beach is across the marina and reached by water taxi. The beach itself is more exposed than the Golden Zone or public beaches; which makes it a little rougher if the weather isn't cooperating and a little more enjoyable on hot, calm days. There's also a restaurant at the beach (and a lifeguard) so you'll continue to be taken care of. Also note there are two pools, one of which (shallow, kids/activity pool) is heated. The other pool is unheated and deeper but has a cool swim-through grotto.

If you're looking for a nice quiet spot, away from the action but accessible to it, this is the place. The staff really made our stay enjoyable and thanks again to the team.

Room Tip: If you can't get a tower room, try for a higher floor

We stayed at the El Cid Marina resort in Jan 2012. Our studio room was quite large with a small kitchette and two double beds. The room was adequate, but the furniture got a bit uncomfortable after just a short time. The resort has Two nice pools with swim up bars, a nice feature that is common in most resorts. The town of Mazatlan is a great place with very friendly people. We felt safe everywhere we went, but were annoyed by the frequent offers for a timeshare presentation from many of the locals along the streets. Speaking of the streets, the sidewalks are terrible, watch your step or you will end up with scrapped knees and elbows.
