“Needs Updating Badly!!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

This property has a great location. Beach is great and beach staff was fun. Conceirge service was useless - not much knowledge on anything we asked for & spoke very little English.
The rooms are in dire need of updating. The air cond. unit dripped from bathroom celing every night - needed to put waste cans under ceiling. Beds are double beds that are jammed up against wall - need to walk out sideways to get in/out of bed. Mattresses old and hard. Bedding from 20 yrs ago! Drawers had to be pushed in with feet to close them. One lamp electrical tape on cord -not safe. TV was from the dark ages - large old tube! Screen doors kept falling off sliding track & screens had holes in them.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor. See if any rooms have been updated.

This Resort is getting old, but the pool, beach, staff and location are excellent. The rooms are ok, but are getting old and are not really well maintained. I would definitely go back however, but always ask for a better room at check in. I was upgraded from a studio with no view, to a 1 bedroom with a great view. The hotel is beautiful outside.. the gardens.. pool areas... and service are all first class. The food is excellent and spa is very nice. My only complaint was the condition of the room.. and it was a bit dirty. As far as the area is concerned... there are many good places to eat within walking distance, and the open air taxis are really cool to drive around in. Overall my experience was good, and I enjoyed my time in Mazatlan.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the beach. Some of the rooms are very close to the main street, and can be...

We returned to Pueblo Bonito Mazatlán, where we'd stayed a number of times, after an absence of several years. It was hot and humid, so we stuck around the resort, passing the time most agreeably, eating, drinking, sleeping, reading and swimming. Although charming and human scale, the resort is getting a little worn around the edges: However, major renovations will begin soon. Meanwhile, the views from our rooms, the service, Cilantro's Restaurant, the birdlife, the sunsets and the swimming beach were all exactly as we remembered them. We visited sister resort Emerald Bay a couple of times, with its outrageous (in a good way!) pools, over the top landscaping and terrific Sunday champagne brunch. Our two guests were thrilled and thanked us repeatedly for inviting them to come with us to Mazatlán. We had all signed up for the All-Inclusive Plan in advance, which is being heavily promoted these days. Although great pains were taken during check-in to make sure we understood the plan's parameters, we were never advised that two of the restaurants on offer, Angelo's and Kelly's Bar, would be closed for renovation -- we found this out the hard way -- and that there would be no "theme nights" because it was still low season. I plan to contact management about this major failure to disclose. I suspect the staff members themselves are not kept up-to-date. That, and given that many other questions we asked about the surrounding area were met with blank stares, makes me suspect that the resort needs to ramp up their training program. Nonetheless, we love Pueblo Bonito and plan to check out their hotels in Cabo.

Room Tip: We had Rooms 322 and 323 (both junior suites) which are centrally located and with a dead on view of...

This was our 3rd time staying at PBM and every time we get there, we know why we don't stay anywhere else. It was at least 2 years since we went but some of the staff still could remember us. We were taken care of in everyway. Our waiters knew our drink and made sure we were ok the whole time. Only thing I can say that needs improvement is the main pool music. It needs to be kicked up so we can feel really like we are on vacation. Other than that, look like we are going to visit again in 2014! Cant wait to see everyone and relax by the pool. Oh and all the great places to eat!!!

My wife and I have stayed at this resort for several years and look forward to our visit every time. The resort is almost 30 years old and has and "old Mexico" feel to it, but is very comfortable. Every room has a view of the ocean, it's conveniently located in the upper end of the Golden Zone, and the staff is wonderful. We comfortably and confidently recommend this resort to our family and friends ... in fact, a group of us will be visiting the first two weeks of December this year.

My husband and I have stayed at PB Mazatlan at least 6 times and we are going back again later this year. The hotel is in an ideal location - at the end of the Golden Zone so you don't get the noise, congestion and crowded beaches of that area but you are still close to everything. We never do the all inclusive because we have some favorite restaurants in the city but the hotel food is excellent (the beach front palapa restaurant has a great atmosphere and food) and we eat there at least 3-4 times on our trips. If you like ostentatious hotels (think the Vegas version of a Roman hotel) stay at PB Emerald Bay (it's huge sprawling, over the top, lots of marble and no beach). But if you like Hacienda architecture and want to be in a place that is and feels and looks Mexican, PB Mazatlan is for you. The staff is incredibly attentive, the resort is always impeccably clean and you can opt to stay on the side of the resort with the non-kid pool if you prefer. We have stayed at La Playa (old historic hotel in the Golden Zone), too. It's very pretty but the food is mediocre, it's in the middle of a congested area and you have to push a button on the sinks for purified water (PB Mazatlan is plumbed for purified water so there is never a problem and you never have to think about this issue). We always stay in a junior suite which is a great size. We have found very good deals by checking regularly about two months before we intend to go. The resort pricing is really strange. You'll find, with few exceptions (i.e. Christmas mostly), that the price for a particular size room is the same price for months and months on end and then, suddenly, the price will change to a single price for months and months. It almost seems (on the PB website) there is only one price the hotel can apply at any one time. So, it pays to check frequently as your desired travel date approaches. The junior suites can range from $93/night-$185 (non all inclusive). We can usually get a rate of $93-$110/night if we are diligent about checking. The area beyond the hotel toward Nuevo Mazatlan is being built up and so you can find a Subway and coffee places like Starbuck's (Rico's - very good) nearby. El Paraje is a great place to get a great lobster dinner and it's a block away. We take the buses to Old Mazatlan (try El Topolo there) and to the Malecon to run along the water. Go to Gimnasio Be Fit, an excellent gym a block away (spinning classes, weights, machines, other cardio classes). My only criticism of the hotel is that internet is not free and only available in the business center so if you need the internet, you have to use the business center (you can hook up your laptop or use their desktops) and pay for it. They'll tell you there is wifi in the public areas but it's weak and sporadic at best and more frustrating than anything else. However, this is a small price to pay for what is, in my opinion, the best hotel in Mazatlan.

Room Tip: I think the ground floor rooms are ideal. I like having the bigger patio area you get in a ground f...

I have been visiting Mazatlan for over 20 years and have always loved this resort. It is one of the most family friendly places you could go in Mexico. When our kids were under two we started them swimming in both the ocean and pools here. The staff still remember us when we visit and always help with anything you may need. Great "All Inclusive" deals especially in late August and early September. You will love the calm ocean waves and warm water. The pools are well kept and maintained. The rooms are net and well stocked. Come and enjoy life in the slow lane.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view but I like the ocean view rooms best
