“It's worth a day but no more.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2010

Every tourist town has a "golden zone", the folks at Mazatlan are just nice enough to name it such so you know where to go to buy all the Senor Frogs t-shirts for your friends back home, then you can escape and go do some real sight seeing, eating relaxing etc.
The silver jewelry shopping however, was impressive and unique even for me... a guy who HATES shopping.

“Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2008

There is nothing special there, just shopping.
Better go to a old Mazatlan or take a ride on the PulMonia (open taxi) around town.

“So many things to do, so little time to do them.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2008

We've been going to Mazatlan for several years now, staying in the Golden Zone. Be sure to try Rico's to share coffee and a piece of carrot cake, have a Mexican coffee at Pancho's, buy some fresh shrimp on the beach and cook it in your room with some friends and a bottle of wine, take the tour to the mountains or the "jungle" tour, and don't forget to take a boat to Stone Island. The food is reasonably priced, cold cerveza's, and beautiful beach to spend some time walking. We love it and keep going back.

“Lots to do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2008

My wife and I would spend almost every night of our two week stay walking the Golden zone, after dinner at one of many nice restaurants from which to choose.
Everybody was friendly and more than helpful in the stores.
The shopping area definitely have a much nicer feel than the Playa del Carmen areas and the Puerto Vallarta (PV). PV is nice but the Mazatlan Golden zone is much nicer for walking and shopping. We never got bothered by timeshare "sharks" near as much as we did in PV.
I would highly recommend the golden zone for restaurants, shopping and just generally wandering about.
